@benbrown888 great job with the hot pot....from the video, seem like you have beer available. You can definitely add a bottle of beer into the hot pot.
@raymundoo1000 : The recipe is really pretty simple. For the regular spicy hot pot I just bought "Lao Gan Ma" hot pot seasoning at a local asian supermarket in Minneapolis where this was held. Everything else was bought there too. All you really need are a burner (about $19 at asian supermarket) some gas for the burner, sesame oil, minced garlic, and whatever you want to cook in it. Usually the store people will help you if it's your first time.
Dude, this is authentic Chinese hot pot.The presentation everything! Good job. I grew up on this stuff. Two thumbs up for authenticity! You even have frog legs?! Man, many of us don't even eat that.
just a quick suggestion for the dried bean curd(tofu skin), and the dried noodle. You can soak them in water ahead of times then use then for the hotpot. Help eliminate the cooking times in the hotpot.
@TooMuchActions Thanks for the suggestion! I actually did start doing that about a year after this video was taken. Somebody else told me to do the same thing. It worked a lot better...
So many people and only 2 cooking pots! Double-dipping and awkwardness!! Still, I'd put up with it if it meant that I got to eat. I'm also curious as to why a vegetarian would show up knowing that meat would be cooked in the same broth she'd be using to cook her veggies.
Great video! - I've learned so much from watching. I've got a couple of Chinese students living with me and want to give this a try with them. I'm glad I live close to Seattle to get the ingredients.
The world can be divided into those who see every culture as their own, and those who place artificial limits on themselves through lack of confidence.
I know plenty of European, Indian and Chinese people who all love to deeply engage in each other's cultures.
Respect all cultures - never insult someone for engaging in another culture by telling them that they are only pretending to be European/Chinese/Indian/African/Arab/etc. This just makes good people feel insecure for being open-minded.
He's cool, it's like first time I see a white person getting so deep into another's culture. He 's teaching others how to eat the spicy hot pot properly, and he's doing it correct ~~ That's very impressive. He's clever ~~
Hotpot is one of the most popular food in China. It's delicious and fun. I just love it so much! I would like to have it every day even every meal! Come on guys, give a shot!
As a native, I should say not to do it such frequently and 2-3 times a week is alright. There might be other dishes in plates that have similar taste: spicy, delicious and numb (by Chinese pepers, the small round stuff). I love it very much.
MMMMmm looks darn good!

Rockieoo, it's just personal preference. Some like pork, some don't. Personally, I like thinly sliced pork loin for this occasion.
