Begging is cool, don't give it a bad rap (I'm a proud beggar & dumppicking, dumpster diving requires begging often times to gain access to locked dumpsters, or dumps where one lacks a dump sticker (milti-town scrounging), still there's nothing more dignified than living of second goods, as I do or the occasional handout, social program (wishfull thinking because america is cheap but wastfull) then undignified employment a rat race, slaving to the man to buy shit I find & consume/use/even sell
Ok,in a way I do agree with the freegains on the most part of living off the waste of America but its waste to who??? I found an ass load of my My Color M&M's just sitting there in the dumpster. They were free of imperfection, expiration and were not damaged or opened. I sold them legaly at a flea market and made like $520.00 on a good day. The rest I gave to a church or to a pantrie. You can observe and document my finds anyday if you'de like? The M&M's passed all health codes before sale.
Lame. If the news wants a damn dumpster diving story then I will be happy to give them there story. The guy who eats roast beef straight out of the dumpster, good for you. Tell me how that works out for ya. I find no shock value in this video at all. If yoy want a shock then watch "Travisty's Trashure Hunt".
There's a fruit & veg shop in Eastwood, Nottingham. I go either every night after they close, or first thing in morning (between 5am and 530am) to see what goodies they have. Yesterday I got 5 cauliflowers, a huge bag of red potatoes the size of salad potatoes, and five bunches of flowers. This morning, I got a big firm green cabbage and two bunches of flowers. Going again tonight or in morning.
i am a dumpster diver but i don't think you should get the food because there might besomething wrong with it no you should just get the cloths and every thing else you think you would want or use.
Nah man the food's good! A day before it's good, but when the clock strikes midnight, or when it goes out the back door and into a box, it's suddenly bad? Personally, I don't see the logic.
I think I saw something on Opera a few months ago of this MILLIONARE couple that had a huge mansion and everything they wanted, yet they were SOO greedy that they went dumster diving and and found jewelry, clothing, blankets, and even FURNITURE!!! All for "free"...I was like, "You F-in A*%holes!" They had the money to buy anthing they wanted...LEAVE THE REST FOR THE PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY NEED IT!!! Thats what I think. If I were homeless I wouldnt want the rich doing that...
shut up dummy, you sound like the greedy one. it's not about having money to get what you want, it's about not wasting and trying to reuse as much as possible to reduce consumption.
I'm a righteous dumpster diver dude. I get all of my apparel, From the bottom of a barrel. All my favorite music, Someone else refused it, My letterhead has many styles, Because it comes from the circular file. If it's in a bottle or a can, Then I figure that I can, Eat it all up, Without throwing up! I go to Campus every spring, To look for all of the good things, That people throw away, Because they go away.
This is one of the more balanced reports on dumpster diving I've seen. The three personalities were presented simply, in their own words. And you avoided being too heavy handed politically, except at the end with the generalist hippie bromide about seeking understanding. Very good video!
I enjoyed that video, and the different types of dumpster divers that are out there. The others I have watched on youtube just to seem to circle around the anti capatilizam types
Well, lots of groups do that but the most famous group is Food Not Bombs. They're not really an art group but it exists throughout the world autonomously. ANYONE can do it! I strongly encourage you to get some people, get some dumpstered goodies and feed your community.
This is awesome. I think the whole idea of dumpster diving is awesome. We used to get our chips from the frito-lay place by my house, they were expired but tasted perfectly fine. Then they started slashing the bags.
Steve, good work- but you got issues. You don't owe people something because they give you free food! Your appreciation is enough. Take a hint from Noreen, she's ace.
I thought it was a bit odd that the narrator said dumpster diving was going against traditional meanings of getting food- it's hunting and gathering!! Just about as traditional as it gets!
Hey thanks for the comment! You are right when you say that 'traditional' is hungting and gathering.. our traditional was grocery shopping-the more modern way of getting food--i guess we could have used the word 'modern' instead!
Yay "Godspeed you black emperor" song. :)

Sorry that you find this lame, but if you were looking for shock value then you WERE looking in the wrong place.
This was not a NEWS story, it was a report on WHY people dumpster dive.

Everyone should dumpster dive.

Maybe im just old fashioned- but why not just grow your own food? It makes more sense than getting it from the garbage. Loads of bacteria in there.

That's sick that they would rather waste food than let people have it.
