  • hay can you help me find reenactment regiments near the Iowa area

  • hey, I live in Virginia and I was wondering if anyone could give me some Reenactor info around the Richmond area...that'd be great :) A few friends and I are trying to get into the wonderful hobbie :] I've gotta rifle, just need uniform and blanks. Links for uniform/blanks and info on regiments around the area would help a lot...thanks a lot :)

  • Can anoyone go to these "Reenactment" ?

  • @bazz2401 Yeah, many like this one are "Public" events. But they also have tactical reenactments that are more realistic and are not open to the public. I'll send you a link to check if any are in your area.

  • @RogCBrand can 11 year olds be in these reenactment

  • @229tman I think it has to do with insurance issues that they have age limits- especially for handling the firearms. I'll send you a link to a site that has all kinds of information.

  • @volcomdude56 i want 2 no

  • lol this is awesome its like realistic as when one of the prisoners tried to run he got shot

  • are they using real bullets?

  • They have special blanks. Determining if you're hit is based on the honor system, which tends to work- though I've heard that on really hot days, guys are more likely to decide to be hit, so they can fall to the ground, when they get tired and hot!

    :P

When they fire a mortar, they use a small explosive charge and a plastic "shell". Anyone within a certain distance of where it lands is "hit".

They also have private events where it's more realistic & has referees to decide who's hit.

  • @RogCBrand how do you know if yor hit

  • @videoww2soldier98 It's the honor system. You decide when it looks like someone got you. But in non-public tactical exercises, I believe they have referees, kind of like with real military exercises.

  • @RogCBrand our pyrotechnics are soft plastic pill bottles with flower or baby powder with a small 60 grains of black powder with a fuse

  • @himmler251 That's cool, I didn't know that!

  • @RogCBrand thats a reenactors job, to teach the public

  • man people are sick haha. laughing at soldiers and a kid running cuz they are scared and then getting shot. man o man, this world

  • 4:01 volkskinder suicide charge lol

  • LOL!

  • Wonderfull piece of history. It's truly a shame we don't have that kind of 2nd ww reënactments here in The Netherlands.

But I'm wondering one thing. At the end of the video where the soldier is being decorated, why didn't they gave the "other" salute? Or are those kinds of symbols/gestures (even when reënacting) forbidden?

But above all else, the video is truly amazing. It might have been taken out of an war documentary.

  • Yeah I think there is a desire to avoid anything that would be considered glorifying Hitler-they can use many things, like the Nazi flag, etc., which are banned in Germany today, but anything that might be a little too sensitive, like saluting Hitler would be avoided.

I belong to a game club that plays the computer game "Combat Mission" & our last club president lives in Germany & as he took over any swastikas from the game had to be removed by German law, which seems to go a little too far.

  • the straight arm salute is more of a political thing, the wehrmacht used the normal army salute, like the one in the video, so its actually accurate

  • Ah, good point.

  • this looks like heaps of fun, i just don't understand how you know you've been hit? i do medieval reenactment myself

  • The rules seem to be pretty loose and on the honor system. I think that if it's really obvious someone has accurately aimed at you and "fired", at fairly close range, then it's easy. But when it's longer range I think it's more about guys just randomly dropping. I know I've seen some rules online before that give some guidelines-plus things like when mortars are used.

That's cool with the medieval stuff-I love watching all reenacting stuff-a nice step back into the past!

  • They use blanks right?

  • Yeah, though the mortar fires a plastic tube with a small charge!

  • Sweet cant wait till I can do this do you Know if they have any reenactments In virginia

  • I'm pretty sure there are- there's a lot more and bigger stuff back east than out here. Our World War 2 and Civil War reenactments are pretty small- the Gettysburg reenactment, I've heard, can have up toward 10,000 reenacters! Still a lot smaller than the real battle yet thousands taking part in anything is huge!

I'll message you a link to the Reenacting site with all the info around the country.

  • Really appreciate it man

  • LOL he knifed that guy good 5:09

  • LOL! Yeah! That was a great moment!

  • where was this mate???

  • At the Evergreen Air & Space Museum, in McMinnville, Oregon. It's only been taking place a few years now, so I'm hoping over time it'll get bigger!

  • thanks mate!!! i hope someday ill see it!!!

  • omg I should get my friends together and do this.

  • I always thought it would be a lot of fun to get a big group of friends together to join in something like this!

Last night I dreamed of a friend I haven't seen in years and we were doing something like a reenactment and he had a WW2 light Stuart tank and he was driving and I was sitting in the turret. It was so funny, as I have no idea why I dreamed that!

    :P

  • man thats a really small one. i live in indiana and there is a big ww2 reenactment in lowll

  • Yeah, I've seen vid from people I know who go to some of those big ones and I really wish we had bigger ones here, but there aren't enough people out here and as it is, Oregon is a very liberal, anti-military state. I often wonder if protesters will end up at one of these reenactments to berate us history buffs for being warmongers!

    :P

  • every now and then me and my friends do a small ww11 reanactment using green (or gray)golfcarts and bb guns...........

  • Cool!

    :P

  • question that guy was talking baout why peopel where dressed normal but the gun fire cut him off what he say

  • Ah, he was talking of the Volksturm (People's Army) sort of a militia formed in the later days of the war, when wounded men, boys in their early teens and old men were rushed through very simple training and sent out to defend the homeland.

  • they should have waited for the german to say"look we washed 4 super"

  • LOL!

  • I wouldent mind seeing a WW 2 Reenactment I was about to see one but my dad was oncall.

  • It really is cool- sort of like getting to watch the filming of a war movie. I went to a bigger one back in Pennsylvania a few years back-getting a sleeping room on the train for the 3,000 mile trip-and it was a reenactment of the Battle of the Bulge, so it was cool that there was snow & a number of barracks each done like German or American soldiers would have in WW2!

Hope you get to see one in the near future!

  • I want to see/particapte in 1!

  • Yeah, my brother and I often talk about getting involved! It would be a lot of fun- though to get even the most basic of equipment/uniform is expensive!

  • @WarlordFlint They are well worth the money!

  • everyone needs to watch my saving private btom video.

  • That's a great video, you did a good job on it!

  • tht looks well fun!! n omg as if you got all the cars n stuff

  • LOL! Yeah! It's kind of like mixing a sort of living history with being big kids!

    :P

  • Good job nice vid. I'm with the 2ndSS

  • Thanks!

  • this looks like a really fun way to learn about history. id rather do this than learn is school. its more of a i was there i witness account sorta thing

  • I totally agree Brandon! I've always loved history, but in school they seem to go out of their way to make it boring! I've heard that some reenacting groups have been invited to schools- I don't know if they perform a battle or just show the equipment and talk about what it was like for the soldiers, but either way that's better than just making kids read out of a lame text book!

    :P

  • These reenactments looks really fun to just watch and listen to! :D

  • Yeah! I bet down around where you guys are there are lots of reenactments- at least Civil War!

  • lol why do they do this? =D

  • Most of the guys who do reenacting are total history buffs and they want to experience some of what it felt like for people back in time- there's reenactors for WW2, the American Civil War, the Revolutionary War, the old West Mountain Men, as well as things like Colonial Williamsburg, etc.

For a few weekends a year they can leave their regular life behind and get together with friends and live in another time.

Most of the battles are more realistic & don't have spectators.

  • lol history buffs. they're crazy! =P

  • LOL! Yeah! But it sure is fun to watch!

    :P

  • Wow this looks sooo fun to watch! Those blanks are superb as well, really give an atmosphere to the re-enactment.

    Once again, great vid!

    -Callum

  • Thanks Callum!

Yeah, it's almost like being at the set of the filming of a war movie!

  • LMAO. I love when everyone laughs when the little German boy gets mowed down. :)

  • LOL! Yeah!

    :P

  • EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!

  • :D Thanks Ben!

  • Was that done in the middle of the woods somewhere far away from peoples houses? If some was living near by it must have been hell for them with that that constant gun fire lol! Did they all where ear protecters or not?

  • The museum is surrounded by some fields, woods and vineyards, so no houses too close- maybe a mile away. It's across from the small McMinnville airport, so the people in the area have to be used to a certain amount of noise- though many probably had no idea of the reenactment and had to wonder about the barrage of firing over the weekend!

    :P

  • i swear about half way through some people are having it out on hat field!

thats gonna be one heck of a cleanup operation!!

this is kind of like watching the behind the scenes for a war film :D only on digital haha :)

  • LOL! Well it is kind of like a sport and I'm sure guys on both sides are getting into it with hopes that their side will prevail!

    :P

It does kind of look like behind the scenes footage from a war movie!

  • shhhhhh, you mean this IS behind the scenes film of your new film :D :)

imagine if the wrong side won haha,we would be healthy and everything, heaven forbid :o

(there was some thing once that showed how we would be healthier and much better off if germany had won, of course the deaths of millions is inexcusable you have to remember, that it isnt the german people who wanted a war in the first place!)

  • LOL! I know some people on here who would love to have a full reenacting group to use in their films!

  • :D that would just be the best video ever!

    hello,ive gone back in time,and its 1943!

haha,i sooo have to get me a big green screen, well, one better than my wallpaper! :D haha

  • lol yea that was cool

  • :D

    Thanks Curtis!

    Congratulations on finishing your CD!

  • haha no prob and thanks a lot!

  • at about the 6:50 moment , is that supposed to be a prisoner trying to escape when they were laughing?

seeing these always makes me think how scary it would be in real life , never knowing when that exact bullet someone shoots will get you

  • LOL! Yeah! Some of us laughed but some, especially some women and kids gasped because it was a young kid. Right after that I missed it, but while being escorted the German got the American's gun and a few of them managed to get away!

    :D

But you're right! On all sides there were some who would shoot prisoners, while also there were some who were really good to prisoners & not knowing how you were going to be treated would have been scary-especially on the Eastern Front or Pacific!

  • that was cool

  • Thanks!
