  • The dude resigned 16 months later? Man... I wonder how Michelle Rhee is doing now, its been around 16--18 months.

  • hahahahahahahah Michelle Rhee - give me a break Michelle! If you tried to tape masking tape over my kids mouths, you'd get your ass kicked - plain and simple. If you are such a great teacher, why are you NOT in the classroom today making a real difference in the lives of children like so many of us.

  • 7:09 "Are you excited about what we're going to learn today?"

    [lackluster] "...yeeees..."

    HAHAHA

  • Just so everyone knows, the DC they are talking about is the DC east of the river. I live in Northwest on the other side of the river and we dont even have public schools or black kids.

  • this suck

  • resigned 16 months later. made me laugh my ass off!!!

  • @bjohnson089 My issue is not about the DC public school system, I haven't read up on it, and I don't believe in commenting on things I haven't read up on...I do know that Michelle Rhee is not the major prize she purports herself to be...please read up on this chick, I mean really do it, not just what the media says about her, but what she says about herself. This chick is not "Superman," and we should no follow her lead...please, you act like she's your mom or something...chillax!!!!

  • @bjohnson you're a teacher is you're answer to go thank a teacher? LoL, so you don't feel any of your teachers need/would appreciate a "Thank you?" 100% proven...ugh, you're still on that? Very few things are 100% proven...look up these two terms: the addition postulate, the multiplication postulate. We can't prove basic math works 100% of the time, let alone what Rhee did/pressured other people into doing...please, that is such a weak argument

  • the narrow minded part of the documentary, is that they assume that by sending one to a private school their will be any difference. Ask yourselves the difference, the only one i can think of is the name itself.

  • man that latina girl is going to be hot when she's 20. Am I right, or am I right?

THANK YOU, AMERICA!!! (cheers and guffaws are heard)

  • @Floodlezoot

shes gonna be another dropout when shes 20 she made me cry :'( she deserves better than this.

  • @bjohnson089 obviously you've done no research...you think she was force to resign because she wasn't guilty? So you think the extraordinary amount of erasures on the kids' test were simply a happy coincidence which is statistically near impossible?!? If you want the real story on education read up on this whole subject...don't just make snippy remarks on YouTube. I put that comment out there to show another side and add to the conversation of what to do with education...go thank a teacher

  • @pahriz I am a teacher, thank you very much. And I have done the research. She was fired because the mayor who hired her was not reelected. It is called politics. When a new mayor is put into office he fires many people. It also has not been 100% proven that she made up test scores. Although I am not saying she is a good person or that she did not do anything wrong, looking at other factors than test scores, the DC school system has improved since she was in her position.

  • OH WOW look, this story covers poverty ridden neighborhoods. Most of these kids are African American. Politians don't give two fucks about these kids. Lets face it, poor people (for the most part) does not vote!! Why would they be worried about these kids? Frankly, it is a damn shame!

  • @collegefootballrulez.

I agree with you 100%. I have been in education for over a decade and I currently teach middle-school U.S. history.

  • by the way, Micheller Rhee was fired!!!!! This chick was fired...but she has all the answers??? Google this chick, Google Teach for America and Google The New Teacher Project...she is tied to both of these groups and both of these groups want our kids' money!!!

  • @pahriz You have obviously not done any research whatsoever. Most of the allegations against Michelle Rhee have not been proven. It is called politics. The people who do not agree with her try to find everything and anything to use against her. It cannot be debated that while Rhee was in her position as Chancellor of the D.C. schools the schools did improve. This is not a problem that we can fix in a short amount of time. But it IS the teachers who can make the difference.

  • @pahriz Just after my post.... I change the comment pages and see yours, she got fired huh?

Come on. What's in store for the next superintendent?

  • @kennboy1 I reading that she resigned..

  • @kennboy1 I'm*

  • The problem is not the school. The problem is kids are not being born in marriage relationships. Kids not born to a marriage type relationship have a lower chance of succeeding in life. It's that simple. The solution is for men to find one woman and marrying her, and for women not to give up the pussy so easily as to have children out of wed lock and dishonor themselves by having mulitiple sexual partners.

  • @Xomanowar99 There was a girl in my old chemistry class who just got into one of the best universities in England while I failed that year and had to pick new subjects. My parents are married and her's aren't so your conclusion is invalid.

  • @Lilia1992 There are exceptions to the rule. I was born from a single mother and I turned out fine, but generally things don't turn out fine.

  • @Xomanowar99 This has absolutely nothing to do with education... get your mind out of the gutter and do your research, marriages have nothing to do with the success rates of children, the school they go to and the teachers they have mean everything.

  • @bjohnson089 A good family structure is important to a child. Don't be foolish and open up your mind.

  • @Xomanowar99 I am not saying that a good family structure is not good. But do you think that if kids come from a bad family we should automatically assume that they will not succeed? Then we are setting them up to fail.

  • Wow...not one kid cussing a teacher out; no gang activity; no teen pregnancies; everyone coming to school on time, everyday, with supplies-ready to learn; parents involved in the education process; no kids needing ADHD medication; there are no issues with illegal drugs in these schools; computers in every classroom; I did not see any kids with their pants hanging off their ass;the kids are neat and groomed and respectful of their teachers.

....this film FAILS to address any of these issues.

  • @runninglow9SS I'm a junior in high school and see that every day. These idiot "reformers" need to face the facts, no matter how much money we spend on students, we can't make them learn. None of these kids want to learn. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. The media isn't helping either. Movies and songs are represented by uneducated fools. Kids don't care what happened at Jamestown and don't care about current events. This is future America? God help us.

  • @collegefootballrulez I think as a junior in high school you have a lot to learn about the education system in our country. Wait until you attend college, many of your views will change. You are one of those people who will allow education in our country to fail because you are giving up on these kids without giving them a chance and that is the biggest problem with our education system, assuming that there is no chance for them so we all just give up.

  • @bjohnson089 That is the huge difference between college and high school. High school is free while college you have to pay out of your own pocket. Public high schools in America are a complete failure because the teachers have been limited in their power and bratty kids basically control the classroom. They already had their chance. They could've pushed themselves to become more educated. That's why 99 out of 100 times the Indian kid will outwork the American kid, in their studies.

  • @collegefootballrulez I am guessing you grew up with parents that pushed you. Many kids do not have that opportunity. That is where the teachers come in. Being a teacher is not a 9-5 job where you go home at night and relax and forget about work. It requires working late and always being there for your students.

  • To the students, every one of these bad-ass schools, is actually run by some bad-ass kids. My school wasn't a learning institution, it was a gladiator academy. Until you are actually able to remove that element from schools, you're just making excuses. The school system has NEVER come up with anb adequate solution to bullies...even though they say it's not tolerated...The bullies are always the teacher's favorites.

  • Caption spell-check is needed greatly!

  • You think public education is free, BUT ITS NOT. Each and every person pays for school with tax dollars. Ron Paul has a plan to remove the department of education that causes this problem and privatize education. It sounds scary, but look how scary the current system is? Ron Paul 2012.

  • Schools are a reflection of their communities!

Is it the teacher's fault when the students don't study or do their homework?

Is it the teacher's fault when the students are high on drugs?

Is it the teacher's fault when the students are consistently late or absent?

Is it the teacher's fault when teenage girls get pregnant?

Is it the teacher's fault when students are constantly moving from school to school? 5 schools in one year!

Is it the teacher's fault when students can't speak English?

  • @MsJanetWood Even if the teacher is not directly the cause of these things, it is the teacher's responsibility as a member of the community to do his or her best to counter the effects of them. If the school is unable to work with the community and find solutions, then the school has failed.

You don't need to set a house on fire to be culpable for just sitting there and watching it burn.

  • @Demosthenes6666 Teachers are not just "sitting there". In fact, teachers are the only ones actually doing any REAL WORK! Everybody else is just pushing paper!

Finally, in reference to your analogy, if we took the matches from the kids, we wouldn't need to stop the fire. Furthermore, a fire hose would be more effective in stopping the fire. But, the so-called experts insist on using water buckets, and then they scream when they don't get the desired results.

  • @MsJanetWood

You're assuming the kids set the house on fire, and that the fire didn't start from natural causes, or a gas leak, or because of an accident- or anything else, really, which is sad.

Your sweeping generalizations are doing you no favors. I haven't claimed anything except that schools in general have a responsibility to work to help troubled communities. I stated nothing about whether teachers do work or not, you read that into what I said. Teachers don't always intervene. Period.

  • Simple solution--don't have children!! I got a vasectomy recently! I am under 30 and have NEVER had children! And I got this operation from Planned Parenthood! Don't let your hormones get in your way!

  • @ticks4ticks4 not the solution brother, goes much deeper. As an educator, if you feel like you could not properly raise a child, then yeah you made the right decision. But there's a lot more factors at play.

  • @ticks4ticks4 Planned Parenthood is evil! I love children!

  • @ticks4ticks4 ahhh lol i am at a loss of words!

that answer is beyond stupid :(

  • Public schools aren't fully at fault here. Yes, bad teachers should be fired, which doesn't happen. But public schools have to deal with a societal change. Fatherless kids, mom working all the time and kids that don't care about themselves. But the simple solution is freedom. Give parents the ability to get their children out of failing schools! D.C. stopped that program.

  • America should take a look at the school system in Holland. It is simple and it actually works. Eventhough there is tracking, every kid can make it to university eventually

  • yearst???

  • TYPO CORRECTION: "If you look into the academic history . . ."

  • 4:55 No, you could not send them to private school!

Private schools are very selective in who they accept into their institution.

They do not accept students with behavior problems.

If you look in the academic history of most inmates, you will see that the vast majority were behavior problems in schools!

  • @MsJanetWood hes making a point that it would cost less, and yes if the state paid the money some private school or schools would take them. Money talks

  • @cwood4ever @cwood4ever

Private schools test students prior to registration. They only accept students with high I.Q.s.

They do not accept students with learning disabilities, behavior problems or limited English skills.

Did you know that Paris Hilton attended FOUR different PRIVATE HIGH SCHOOLS!

In the end, she ended up getting her GED!

  • @MsJanetWood Again..thats not true...maybe you can point to a few school that may have that practice, but having my kids in two seperate private schools neither did that . You cant compare Private to public and be fair to teachers though. In private school you have a higher (although not complete) level of parental involvement. In public, teachers are treated like glorified babysitters, and have no power to control their class.

  • @MsJanetWood

That's not true. Yes, some private schools ARE selective, but others pretty much care if you can afford them. And there are some private schools with excellent facilities for students with learning disabilities because the parents pay for it.

  • @MsJanetWood they are suggesting sending kids to private school before they develop the problems that occur when they go through the public system. you are assuming that every kid has problems as soon as they are born. not true. they develop them because of the schooling and the people surrounding them. dont be so judgmental, it could have been you. im sure that if you ended up at any of these schools, you would have some problems too.

  • Hahah 5 seconds to the end, how the black kid doesnt get knowledge juice. Great message.

  • I am confused,

I am from the UK, are you not forced to attend school until at least 16?

  • @emelianenkoo in georgia, US you have the option of dropping out at 16. it depends on the state
