i dont think that she ist lucky in that all-plastic home ... she needs to bite something an she needs a lot more corners or little houses to hide ... and more hay or something like that ... she nees wood ... the best thing for a hamster is an old auqarium or a big cage...
Aww haha and I thought my hamster cage was big xD Since this was made over 3 years ago I am assuming she died so R.I.P if she did, hope she lived a long and happy life <3
Hmmmm im not being nasty but whats the point on getting a big big massive hamster cage for just 1 hamster and it looks like your getting the exact same hamster cage all the time, so what is the point? and hamsters do NOT need a big massive cage like that!
i like big cages but... i wouldnt like to clean it and...it is to big to just grab and go like if there was a fire and you loved your hamster sooo sooo much like me...
ur jazzy is very cute i <3 very similar to my aurio but he is a lighter cinnamon band and a little skinnyer he dunst eat much but i am sure he would love a home like yours how much did it cost and how did u tame ur hamster to pick her up so easily with out her running around ¬¬ =D
Nice hotel! But Guinea pigs want to take over the world in revenge for being used in science experiments, and it's only the Peruvian pan-pipe bands that are keeping them at bay, it's true, I saw it on South Park!
I think that Guinea pigs would totally rock, ruling over the planet! It'd be a noisy place, but it'd be pretty cool! Do you think hamsters and guinea pigs would get along, if they banded together to launch a hostile takeover?
"Do you think hamsters and guinea pigs would get along, if they banded together to launch a hostile takeover?" Scary thought! If they both realised we are their common enemy and joined forces, they'd conquer us in a matter of days, we'd have no defense against them, they're just so darn cute!
guinea pigs are cute! Especially when they are small! wikkle piggies! That's one of the few animals that I haven't kept as a pet. Maybe someday, when I have a job that allows me more leisure-time!
I used to put those blocks in my hamsters cages, but they never seemed to use them. I never had to cut Jazzy's teeth or nails, though. To keep her teeth filed down, I used to buy these pieces of fruit wood (sold specially for small animals; I DON'T reccomend that you find your own, as they may have pesticides on them) and I gave her whole hazel nuts, still in the shell. She'd chew to the sweet nut in inside! She loved them. And she loved dog biscuits, the kind that are really crunchy.
I've tried a whole lot of different bedding, in my years keeping hamsters. I found that with wood chip bedding would give my hamsters mites and corn cob bedding seems to grow this nasty looking mould on it within just a couple of day of it being put in fresh. I'm now experimenting with walnut bedding, but so far don't like the smell of it when it gets soiled.
I also use a type of cat litter (recycled paper pellets) that seems to be very good at traping moisture and odour, called 'Breeder's Select.' But as I've mentoned before, it's not very cuddly, so on top of this I use Carefresh bedding, which is very fluffy, but totally hamster-safe. My girls love sleeping in huge piles of it!
I've only every seen the boring white colour and the grey coloured one, here...And it's damn expensive, but my girls are worth it! I just have to work a bit harder to save the pennies, in order to keep them in the manner to which they have become accustomed! :D
I now have two female winter white dwarf hamsters, who a friend of mine found abandonned, outside her house. All 4 of those hamsters now have a happy, loving home, including my two!
This is our store room, so our extra drinks get stored in there! LOL! A lot of other stuff gets stored there, too, but none of it cuts into my hamsters' space ;D
LOL, no, I didn't usually pick her up like that, only if I was persuading her to go back into her Rotastak system. She liked to come out and see me while I was cleaning it, sometimes, so I'd say hello, give her a little cuddle and put her back in! : )
I've never had chinese hamsters, so I'm afraid that I can't help you, there...but I think I heard somewhere that chinese hamsters have fur on their feet...Maybe, if this is so (I've never even seen a chinese hamster, so this is purely a guess on my part) then they can't climb because their furry little feet slip...ever tried the rotastak mouse ladders?
I'd invest in some mouse ladders for the vertical tubes, at least until the hamster learns to use the tubes on their own. Also, put water and food in all cages joined on, until the hamster builds up confidence to move from one cage to another. But I think your hamster should be okay, as Chinese hamsters (not actually true 'dwarf' hamsters, actually) are bigger than winter whites and mine manage fine!
The brand Rotastak is produced by Armitages Ltd. It is one of the more expensive brands on the market, but I've had some of it for more than ten years. Given good care, it will see you through generations of hamster. If you'd like to find out more about it Google 'Rotastak' and if you are interested in buying, but do not live in Europe, take a look at Ebay. I just ordered and recieved a piece of Rotastak from there...Also, you can find cheaper prices there, than buying right off the shelf.
The system is larger now, but still I spend less than an hour each day ceaning various cages. Some get dirty faster than others, but it is still all cleaned once a week.
wow for a singapore home (i'm guessing hdb?), I have to admit that's very fun of you to create such an enormous "cage" for your hamster. I reckon that whole set costs more than 500 sgd..i'm from singapore too and only have a habitrail ovo, thinking of extending it with another ovo but different interior. =D
No, it's not an HDB, it's a house and Gucci and Prada are in our spare room, where we store a lot of stuff that never gets used, but my dad refuses to throw it out! I considered getting an Ovo, but thought it was kinda small and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to connect it to my Rotastak. I can connect my Rotastak to my Habitrail Safari and Playground, so maybe it'd work. But I've just bought more Rotastak on Ebay and will soon connect it all up, so Gucci and Prada will have plenty of space!

Good news! Meeting with my friend is set up for tomorrow and by the end of the day, I should have a couple more videos of my two brand new hamsters! Check back then!
No, not really. I toilet train my hamsters, so I don't get that nasty build-up on the cages that happens when urine dries. After that it is just a case of washing the other pieces in warm water with a little amount of washing up detergent. After a rinse, I let the pieces dry in the sun, then I put it back together and add cage litter, food, bedding etc. Also I do one or two cages each day plus some pipes, so the whole lot gets cleaned regularly, but it isn't all done in one go.
I used to use wood shavings, but my hamsters got repeated mite infections. Going by the advice of my vet, I switched to a recycled paper product and I haven't had any problems since. I also provide bedding for my hamsters to sleep on, but it is up to them where they sleep. They've got a choice of several places. My hamster Jazzy prefered the little house you see at 00.55, rather than the circular unit with the darkened lid.
Also, she hated cage litter in some cages, so moved a lot of it to other parts of her cage. If you see a cage without any litter whatsoever, it is because Jazzy moved it. It's her home, so I was quite happy to let her dictate how it was arranged! She could move an insane amount of stuff around in just a few hours!
I usually stick with Ebay, because you are able to look at the seller's feedback record and the comments of previous clients. Also, through Ebay you are sometimes able to use a credit card to pay, which speeds things up, but also are able to do so through Paypal, which is safer than just plugging in your credit card details through what may be an unsecure server.
Does anyone here have the lunar launchpad? Have been trying to get hold of a picture that shows where the tubes feed out of it, so I can see if it is feasible to connect to my other pieces, but so far, no luck. I've got so much rotastak that I'm worried that it won't all fit on the table, if I bought that extra piece!
She did at times, particularly when she was going through estrus, but it was nothing that she wouldn't take care of herself. My vet said that it was best not to bathe her, but to use a mild babyshampoo if I really felt I had to.
But I get the feeling that you mean her cage. Yes, there were times when she smelled, not really badly, but I mostly took care of that by cleaning her cages regularly, particularly the ones she used most and the potty-yes, she was completely toilet trained...It really helps prevent things getting very stinky!
No, Jazzy was potty trained and the potties were cleaned every two-three days. Some cages were used less than other, but all in all, the whole lot was cleaned every 7-10 days. The cages that she used most were cleaned at least once a week, but using a rota system, I only had to clean a cage or two each day. She did not pee in tubes or even anywhere outisde of the potty, so it was not difficult to keep it all clean at all. Hamsters are by nature very clean animals.
The dust and oils from wood shavings can be bad for the hamster's lungs and skin. I use a paper pellet product, as well as soft bedding material made from thin, hamster-safe tissue paper. However, if you don't see cage litter in a cage, it is because my hamster moved it out of there herself. I furnish every cage she has, but she moves it around and gets it to be just as she likes it!
Its only pine and ceder that are bad for the hamsters. I use the pets at home woodshavings and have never had a problem. But from what i can see your hamster only seems to have some bedding down in the burrowing chamber and a bit in one of the kidney bowls. There hardly looks to be any in the others. Its just a tip :)
I can understand if you've had only good experiences with woodchip bedding, but my hamsters have gotten infected with mites, in the past, due to this kind of bedding. My vet reccomeded paper-type bedding because it is treated before it is made and packaged, so it is less likely to harbour parasites than wood-chip bedding.
Also, you don't see bedding in some cages simply because Jazzy tended to move it. She liked her 'burrow basement to be full, but hated bedding in some of the other cages, like the ones she exercised in. I usually furnished every cage, but Jazzy moved and changed things, according to her own likes and wants...
I still miss her, since she died at 26 months of age (a little under six months ago,) but knowing how happy she was and how she had a longer, happier life than most hamsters is a comfort to me. Thanks for your comment!
Totally lovin the setup, mine's not as big but its only been a week now, i've posted a video response with a peak at my setup, let me know what ya think!
You've got a very cool setup! The beauty of Rotastak is the the possibilities for expansion are endless! Using that long curly tube in my vid, I learned how to connect the Rotastak system to Habtrail, which opened up more possibilities. Can't wait to see what you come up with to give your fuzzy friends a happy life, in the future!
Sorry, I couldn't tell you how much the whole set was. They are sold separately and I've been buying them as I can afford them, since I was about 13 (I'm 25 now!) They are expensive so I try to buy secondhand or or discounted online, when I can.
I use special shavings so it doesent hurt my mice 'es lungs. It is recycled (not dirty) bits of paper. THey can chew on it and it doesent harm them at all .
Yes, I used a similar product. The kind I used are paper pellets, but were not so comfortable for them to sleep on. So I usualy provided the cardboard inner tube from a used toilet roll. They would chew it up and shred it until it was really soft, then curl up in it and go to sleep! Great for keeping them entertained, too! LOL!
The reason you don't see cage litter in this cage is because Jazzy has moved it out herself. I furnish every cage, but once she goes back in, she changes everything according to her own wishes. And I don't use sawdust, which is bad for a hamster's respiratory system. On the advice of the vet, I bought a type of paper-type kitty litter and hamster safe bedding for her to sleep on.

I'm so glad that I loaded up these clips, now...Poor Jazzy passed away, just last Thursday! :( She had a long and happy life that was virtually unmarred by any kind of illness...Hope she's happy in hamster heaven, now! Thanks for your comments!
That's the trouble with having an animal that has a relatively short life-span...But just have to cram as much fun and enjoyment into their little lives as possible! :)

She could move an insane amount of stuff around in just a few hours!

do you know any good online pet stores for hamster cages? Fantastic setup! LOL!
phoneprada 3 years ago
I usually stick with Ebay, because you are able to look at the seller's feedback record and the comments of previous clients. Also, through Ebay you are sometimes able to use a credit card to pay, which speeds things up, but also are able to do so through Paypal, which is safer than just plugging in your credit card details through what may be an unsecure server.

Does anyone here have the lunar launchpad? Have been trying to get hold of a picture that shows where the tubes feed out of it, so I can see if it is feasible to connect to my other pieces, but so far, no luck. I've got so much rotastak that I'm worried that it won't all fit on the table, if I bought that extra piece!

did your hamster smell?
giantsroc234 3 years ago
She did at times, particularly when she was going through estrus, but it was nothing that she wouldn't take care of herself. My vet said that it was best not to bathe her, but to use a mild babyshampoo if I really felt I had to.
HMPrincessJazzy 3 years ago
But I get the feeling that you mean her cage. Yes, there were times when she smelled, not really badly, but I mostly took care of that by cleaning her cages regularly, particularly the ones she used most and the potty-yes, she was completely toilet trained...It really helps prevent things getting very stinky!

is that hard to clean???
luckyduckykitkat12 4 years ago
No, Jazzy was potty trained and the potties were cleaned every two-three days. Some cages were used less than other, but all in all, the whole lot was cleaned every 7-10 days. The cages that she used most were cleaned at least once a week, but using a rota system, I only had to clean a cage or two each day. She did not pee in tubes or even anywhere outisde of the potty, so it was not difficult to keep it all clean at all. Hamsters are by nature very clean animals.

hello just a suggestion. you should put some shaving in the cage so it won't feel cold and so it can cuddle and make a nest when its sleeping:)
mewcherry123olivia 4 years ago
The dust and oils from wood shavings can be bad for the hamster's lungs and skin. I use a paper pellet product, as well as soft bedding material made from thin, hamster-safe tissue paper. However, if you don't see cage litter in a cage, it is because my hamster moved it out of there herself. I furnish every cage she has, but she moves it around and gets it to be just as she likes it!
HMPrincessJazzy 4 years ago
Its only pine and ceder that are bad for the hamsters. I use the pets at home woodshavings and have never had a problem. But from what i can see your hamster only seems to have some bedding down in the burrowing chamber and a bit in one of the kidney bowls. There hardly looks to be any in the others. Its just a tip :)
randomcolour 4 years ago
I can understand if you've had only good experiences with woodchip bedding, but my hamsters have gotten infected with mites, in the past, due to this kind of bedding. My vet reccomeded paper-type bedding because it is treated before it is made and packaged, so it is less likely to harbour parasites than wood-chip bedding.
HMPrincessJazzy 4 years ago
Also, you don't see bedding in some cages simply because Jazzy tended to move it. She liked her 'burrow basement to be full, but hated bedding in some of the other cages, like the ones she exercised in. I usually furnished every cage, but Jazzy moved and changed things, according to her own likes and wants...

I still miss her, since she died at 26 months of age (a little under six months ago,) but knowing how happy she was and how she had a longer, happier life than most hamsters is a comfort to me. Thanks for your comment!

You've got a very cool setup! The beauty of Rotastak is the the possibilities for expansion are endless! Using that long curly tube in my vid, I learned how to connect the Rotastak system to Habtrail, which opened up more possibilities. Can't wait to see what you come up with to give your fuzzy friends a happy life, in the future!

how much was it for the whole set please respond soon
techdeckdude909 4 years ago 3
Sorry, I couldn't tell you how much the whole set was. They are sold separately and I've been buying them as I can afford them, since I was about 13 (I'm 25 now!) They are expensive so I try to buy secondhand or or discounted online, when I can.

I use special shavings so it doesent hurt my mice 'es lungs. It is recycled (not dirty) bits of paper. THey can chew on it and it doesent harm them at all .
miceysrock051 4 years ago 3
Yes, I used a similar product. The kind I used are paper pellets, but were not so comfortable for them to sleep on. So I usualy provided the cardboard inner tube from a used toilet roll. They would chew it up and shred it until it was really soft, then curl up in it and go to sleep! Great for keeping them entertained, too! LOL!

this is a nice cage. good job!

i swear you need saw dust in cages.
JimmyTheKiller 4 years ago
The reason you don't see cage litter in this cage is because Jazzy has moved it out herself. I furnish every cage, but once she goes back in, she changes everything according to her own wishes. And I don't use sawdust, which is bad for a hamster's respiratory system. On the advice of the vet, I bought a type of paper-type kitty litter and hamster safe bedding for her to sleep on.

The brand Rotastak is produced by Armitage Ltd. It is one of the more expensive brands on the market, but I've had some of it for more than ten years. Given good care, it will see you through generations of hamster. If you'd like to find out more about it Google 'Rotastak' and if you are interested in buying, bt do not live in Europe, take a look at Ebay. I just ordered and recieved a piece of Rotastak from there...Also, you can find cheaper prices tere, than buying right off the shelf.

That's the trouble with having an animal that has a relatively short life-span...But just have to cram as much fun and enjoyment into their little lives as possible! :)
