can you buy these 1930s F1 cars. I live between Nice and Monaco and would love one for a sunday blast to the casino and back. The ferraris are also nice Mercedes or Ferrari. i could find none online for sale.
Dont think you will find one of these online buddy! Make's no difference how much money you have or where you live!! Besides, not practical to take one 'for a sunday blast to the casino and back'. There are people like me out there who would give their lives to own a vehicle like this because of the passion they develop over time for such vehicles.
seen this car the very first year it went to goodwood for the F.O.S it's something i'll never forget and can say that i've seen in the flesh and heard it's blood curdling sound.and the smell of actone alcohol and castrol were intoxicating to say the least!!!!!!
waw. Amazing noise. Wish I could turn back time. This actually is the w163, the 1939 car, similar to the 1938 w154, but with two stage supercharging, and a smaller front end/radiator assembly. 484bhp @7000 rpm. If it wasnt for the outbreak of war, the 1940 car would have had fuel injection. That would have been interesting. These car's never fail to amaze me.
I heard about speed record on street in 1939 before WW 2. Aperently they drove about 450 km/h. Is this true? If yes, this is the fastest car driven on streets!!
Bernd Rosemeyer died during a record attempt reaching 440 km/h due to heavy sidewind. the actual record dates the same day, reached by his opposing mercedes benz and scores 432km/h...its still the fastest speed reached on legal/public roads
Yes,they were simply amazing. The late 1930's really was one of the golden eras of Grand Prix racing, although not without cheating (see the 1933 Tripoli Grand Prix).
If Hitler only had been smart enough to be content with making germany the world's leading technological country we might have had germans on the moon first. But no, he thought more land was needed in order to be great... Fortunately we are nowadays mostly rid of his likes.
It's a common myth that the 1939 car was a W163. In spite of all the design changes it was in fact still a W154 officially, with the M163 engine. Many of the recent books on Mercedes racing cars point this out.
