  • sounds like premo

  • i wanna cry its so simple and beautiful.

what would you recommend a long time hiphop head for their first drum machine?

  • can you make a bass out of an SP1200?

  • THIS IS WHAT THE WU TANG CLAN USED!!! WU WU WU WU WU TANG!!

  • Special offer this august last week: Book for only 19.95€ / one week only !!! #sp1200 #mpc #beatmaker #dig

  • Fuck a sp1200. I'm on my FL Studio shit, fuck wit me.

  • @coocoo4cocopuffslol It doesn't matter what you use to make beats, but in your case - your beats sound mad wack son! Gain some skills before you open your mouth next time!

  • @Fading0815 it was a joke faggot, plus that was the second beat I ever made.

  • do sp-1200 come with all drum samples which have ever been used by dudes who had them like dre, pete rock. or do you buy refills?

  • @TheSinghFIRE no, if they did then they wouldent be a sampeler they would be a drum machine

  • @TrowbridgeHardcore well how did people like Havoc, Madlib, Q-Tip, De La and Jay Dee have the same drum samples. Like the drums which madlib had for the early lootpack stuff were the same as the drums which De La Soul used for couple of tracks off Stakes Is High. and i dont think they were drum breaks either.

  • @TheSinghFIRE cus they sampled the same drums, like here for example is /watch?v=uxp0Kfgpft8, Lee Dorsey, a break that has been broken up by shitloads of producers from Cypress Hill, showbiz, Lord Finesse to nobodies like me.

Funky drummer with James brown, footsteps in the fark with isley brothers are also very common drums.

But of course you add your own touch to them with filters and stacks etc.

  • @rofltoflwofl yeah im familiar with drum breaks but other drums such as a track called Fall In Love (Jay Dee Remix), the drums in there were exactly the same as a Madlib track from his group Lootpack. i mean if you check the song out it doesn't really sound like a break. what does stacks mean?

  • @TheSinghFIRE Stacking drums = putting drums on top of eachother, like for example double snares, one pitched dark and one light = one combinded snare.

Well you often chop the breaks into individual sounds, like only the snare, only the kick etc etc, so you can fuck around with it however you wanna.

  • does the emu sp 1200 support midi

    ?

  • someone look up Gary Anthony Williams.

  • Hello, fine demonstration of the loop-feature.

SP1200 - unless 20 years of music-gear-evolution still my favorite tool!

You might want to check my youtube-upload ...

  • can you do all you demonstrated on a sp12?

i wanna get one bc of lower cost than a sp1200

  • always loved that gritty sound with the aliasing frequencies...

  • hmmm.....alwayz wondered what functions the faders did....OG sp1200

  • Check 4, Beats by Wallace Green

  • Hi, could someone please tell me the sample source of the rhodesy sound..???!!!

  • Thanks for the eye opening video. I always wondered how you got around one of these beasts. I have never used one, and wish to have owned one some day.

I am a recycle and logic baby, but I Love hardware, just hard to find and so expensive. one day..one day. thanks again beat hed!

  • how you do this on mpc 2000??? shiiiiiiii

  • what is the difference (besides the obvious exterior aspect) between an sp1200 and an mpc template?

  • I thought this video was very informative, that's a good idea to spread the sample out at different pitches

  • I have one with a bad floppy hard drive I heard you can swap out the drive for a lot of older 3.5 drives Tandy etc. I think I'm going to sell it

It was Nasty Nes' (Sir Mix Alot) Nastymix Records signed on the bottom.

  • why do black people always have the best equipment :D MEGA JEALOUSE!!!!!

  • @miltonatchet i dont think its was a racist comment at all! i kinda know exactly what you're talking about. I LOL'ed hard at that because i know exactly what you're talking about. anyways keep doing your thing! all these other fools are just haters

this vid was really cool by the way

  • there's a vsti version of this called sd 2100 on vst4free website.

  • @mistabeekeeper pointless in every way hahaha

  • @miltonatchet you think it's pointless? quit being idiotic and lazy and go to their website!!! by the way what planet are you from talking about black people have the best equipment. look here douchie the hedgehog, i'm 100% human. knock it off with that non-dairy bullshit!!!

  • @mistabeekeeper your the lazy one mate get a real sp 1200 you bellend, i mean fair play to effects and synth VST's but sampler VST'S? POINTLESS! you can use ableton, reason, cubase etc to sample as you have to use those sort of programs for vst's anyway. what im saying with "black people have the best equipment" is that probably 80% of videos posted with people using hardware are black, its not a racial thing or anything negative, its a fact and whats "non-diary bullshit" supposed to mean? DICK!

  • @miltonatchet 1.i'm not a racist. i'm saying that anybody can get good equipment no matter who they are. 2. non-dairy bullshit means total rubbish. 3. i have acid music studio, podium, lmms (linux multimedia studio aka fruity loops clone) and mixx dj software. i also have cubase that comes with the yamaha usb/midi keyboard plus sampletank software.

  • the drums sucks.

  • @Masterjai why do you say that

  • @liedowninthelight cause they suck /

  • this is very q-tipish. i dig.

  • Thanks man... i didn't know that at all eventhough i read the manual. Great, usefull tip!

  • them stiff ass drums...hahah. this dude is funny man..hes cool but..quite herbish.

  • Man, I always wanted one of these. I think there's still a lot to be said for hands on music making. And though it's a machine you can see hear how hands on it can be. I love that! Thanks for posting :)

  • you sound like krs 1

  • this gonna be my next pice of equipment..Im downgrading lol...this is THE piece...still

  • i want this sooooooo bad

  • real nice. that amazing sound i hear is that something you sampled or the piano tone built into the sp1200?

  • There are no built-in samples, you have to take sounds from recorded music.

  • so the sp doesn't have piano, drums, kicks,hi hats etc already in the machines programming?

  • nope

  • Comment removed

  • so,when it extends the sample,is it time stretching it?

  • no, it just loops a section of the sound.

  • ah,ok!

  • nope

  • Anybody know a website that give u all the basic to learn how to make music with that?

  • That was real slick!

  • I got one of these a 909, 808 and a Yamaha rx8. I use the SP almost exclusively.

  • The EMU SP1200 is LEGENDARY. Epic even. This was used in the making of "Dead Presidents" beat by Ski

  • with the Akai S 950...

  • @xidica

    Madlib used one for Madvillainy.

    'Nuff said.

  • @xidica more than that, this is FLAVA IN YA EAR and all the Easy Mo Bee-produced biggie tunes, and a million other beats, including most of the tribe called quest beats....

  • doc is at it again

  • its actually only 10seconds...and you can only sample up to 2.5 seconds per sample..

  • that's really nice.

    thanks for the info!

  • Amazing what some dudes can do with 12 seconds of sample time.

  • I have a question though, you can just use a 1/4 to usb cable to get this onto your computer right?

  • these things are over 20 years old and still sell for 2k.

  • Man I gotta get one of deez!!!

  • yeah that friggin sucks.... hiphop is dead and everyone's investing in sp1200 :p

  • Comment removed

  • How much do one of these babies go for?

  • 1500 USD. is what the SP1200 goes for.

  • CAN someone let me know how much thows are please

  • sp1200 users,,, help..!!!!

i need a copy of the o.s. for boot up....!!!!!

    any help appreciated....peace

  • sp1200 is worth it's high price definately

  • i want one so bad

  • nice

  • If you you like this clips visit samplekings.cpm

  • smooth track

  • dey stil make dem?

  • No. Emu stopped a while ago, however they found some old circuitboards which hadn't been used in the first production, as a result they decided to remake the SP1200 until they ran out of boards. But it was only a small batch.

  • gr8 beat but wack quality

  • That beat was ill

  • that sounds like some proper detroit shit, props!

  • sp1200 big up!!!

  • you've created the eastside beat my man...

    props

  • i heard madlib uses that same machine.

  • dre uses it too ;)

  • Really? cool.

  • Johnny J still uses this He produced a lot Tupac Hits

  • Sample Kings are Gods!!! Put me on with my MPC!! I owe alot to them!

  • the sp 1200 was the original way before the MPC revolution or the Yamaha Motif thang.

  • True

E-Mu SP-1200 (1987) was STANDARD in the Golden Era of Hip Hop (1988-1994)

  • u kinda right

  • stfu you stupid amatuer, it's the same shit Madlib uses

  • You think this thing has limited sample time...try a Mirage...

  • if i owned one id surely go to you for questions! heh it looks like a really neat machine - keep up the great work :)

  • I have one for sale, $1300. Get at me for pictures and any questions. Obviously you have a demonstration of what this powerful machine is capable of right here.

  • hasdhfhahahaha hell yeah only dood with balls enough to say it.

  • ...except that it's irrelevant. This is sample-based music, it's different to music intended to be played live. Well done for having the balls though.

  • there was no snare

  • So?

  • speed all samples up an slow them down later im the king of the sp 1200

i been doing that since 1987

  • what does it bring??

  • maxes use of the limited sample time

  • basicly you're downsampling it then (halving the samplerate).

  • I wouldn't really call this a trick. It might have been back in the day but its just a basic chop. The sp is classic though.

  • nothing beats the drums on the sp1200.....yes the mpc does have an amazing swing but nothing beats what this machine does to a kick and a snare......nothing

    brilliant dirt

  • badass

  • shitty

  • We push buttons NOT punch them Turbo!

  • ASR-X ALL DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ASR 10 ALL DAY!!!!!!!!

  • man, If only I had enough money for one of these. I love retro equiptment.

  • whats better?...the sp1200 or the akai mpc60? im not sure which one i should buy...

  • sp1200 has made alot more of the hiphop music you love, its easier workflow and you can use the sliders to trim up sounds instead of a number display. Go with the 1200

  • By far mpc 60. it does not matter which was first. Most Americans drive American cars, but are they built the best?

It has more sampling time, a much more powerful sequencer, and better sample editing options. Most people got re introduced to the SP when they heard Pete Rock say" stick it in the sp1200 sample make a loop" on straighten it out. Next everybody went looking for SP1200's thinking it would make you sound like Pete Rock. Get an mpc, I think you will out grow a SP if you get it.

  • omg its like a brain orgasm, to think of having a sp1200 & a 60 side by side. Thats my dream.

  • I rock the grey one. the black version is the 98 re-issue. nah you can't delay the sounds on the MP only on the SP. you can mimick that, but on the sp when youre editing the sample you can set the delay time.

  • I done got an old grey sp thats beat up real bad, my faders are possesed by wicked spirits that make it spasm about, and my disk drive doesn't always want to save to its disk but Overall i wouldn't want anything else for makin beats. Nice one for the clip its good to see viddys like these keep on!

  • thats a hot ass beat, it reminds of something pete rock would do, it sounds like the same sample that ak skills used on his song called one life ta live, keep it up.

  • thats so dope

  • I AM prob-lee the only cat thats rockin the OG grey SP. why everybody jockin the black boxes??? mmm...

  • you not alone homie, I'm rocking that grey joint too. But I couldn't resist so I went cop me a black one too...

  • I never knew that black people were so smart! haha Just kidding foo. good job!

  • i like that sp1200 mmm nice...

  • i like that trick

but that beat was extra shitty

  • thts a old trick you have to make sure it loops on beat too even more so if your sample has a lot of sounds in it

  • I'm gettin' an SP. Fuck that! That extendin' the sample shit is what I'm talkin' about!

  • Any sampler will do this. Standard operating procedure.

  • My MP dont do that. I can strech the sample, yes. But for it to extend the sample and fade out like that...nope.

  • Any sampler will do this, regardless of how old and crusty:

    1) Loop the sample to allow for it to sustain. This is an art - you listen while you adjust the loop to find the best zero-crossings in the sound eliminate clicks.

    2) The fade out part is just a standard volume or 'amplitude' envelope - Set the release time longer to create a 'fade out' effect.

  • I'll try that.

  • read the manual yo...any MPC can do this too. And I have both machines so im not biased
