UH band represented our 50th State well..i was once a band member in the late 80's..ou hats made us look like q-tips..lol!.. the new unifroms look awesome!
honolulu's my hometown, and i love the warriors and their band, but after being at USC for 3 years i really would like to see some new band outfits -.-
That stinks! I don't know the audition requirements for Drumline here, but all I have to do is play at our annual spring game and play in a concert band in the spring and we are automatically back in the band for the next year. If you don't, you have to reaudition.
wow, really? There were some solos in Rhythm of the Night we had to cut.. but that was about it. What cool in our pre-game is where we played 5-0, we normally play Star Spangled Banner and Hawai'i Pono'i, so we took it out and stuck in that dance and 5-0 as kind of a crowd pleaser type thing. Other than that, Rainbow Closer was a tad faster than normal.
actually, the whole reason I made those comments were to piss off chanmantooth.. the band was actually pretty cool. The best part was when a few of the girls from Georgia were learning hula. Good times.
By the way, I was impressed with the UH band. For a band that doesn't get very much name recognition and publicity, ya'll did pretty good! You have a pretty awesome dance team!
Actually Georgia did not work on the Journey show all year. We played 4 shows this year and our Journey show was our third. Our shows were James Brown, The Who, Journey, and Movie themes. We hadn't even marched the show for ver a month and we only practiced it about 2-3 days when we got to Louisiana. We did march the pre-game for the whole year (actually it hasn't changed since last year!). I think we did a good job for how much time we had.
Well fact of the matter is this......my band flew 4,500 miles has an awesome band lead by great directors. They don't have all the money, nor the members......but to have the outright honors UH did receives shows that people in the islands can compete with any mainland band, and do WELL!!!
Both teams should be applauded and not downgraded even if you were trying to offend everyone.
UGA's band wasn't one of only 5 bands selected by the College Band Directors National Association for National Honors. UH's band was. And considering that UGA's band has well over 10x the budget of UH's band and twice the size that's quite an accomplishment.
That was really a trip...too bad that they didn't show everything (I guess it's all about the money. Money we don't really have). Still, it's good that they showed us at least. Heh, I'm not in any of these shots, but oh well.
Very good experience, but I'm glad to be home! I'm half-relieved I was on the flight, and half-not (because of the stupid traffic at the hotel and whatnot) -- Brittney, 3rd Trumpet
yea, the high school kids got kinda jipped, but after all, the bowl game was about UH and Georgia and they're pretty pressed for time on national tv like that.
HEY!!! i don't thinkn thats nice ok!??! UH still represented even if they lost!!! that was a good accomplishment for them!!! and no.... that was NOT the whole state!

What about Ohio State?
And Oklahoma is just subject to teams that are hungry for a win.
Boise State, well we all know that story
and West Virginia was probably mad because Rich left them.

infamousraiderh, do you play in the UH band? If so, what instrument do you play? I play the sousaphone.

We actually had to cut out one of our songs in the show to fit in the time constraints. We originally had "Any Way You Want It" as our second song.

this was the best halftime performance ever. i remember tearing up when they played "somewhere over the rainbow".
i just wanna give props to all the uh band members for doing an awesome job at the sugar bowl and at the pep rallies, etc.

umm.. we did 5. Queen/70's-80's, Grease, Hot City Nights, Military Appreciation, and Rainbow Closer.

Georgia's shows aren't that hard to pull off... looks like Georgia worked all season on that show and still got lame results

thanks. i think our show was more fun than the georgia band. we had fun on the free trip so it was a great experience nonetheless.
