Now I know Why Pharoah Pepi II wanted to see the "dance of the Gods"
" Bring the man from the south forth to me with great hast and guard him day and night it would please the king's heart more than all the gold of Nuvia to see the man do the dance of the Godss for his majesty!!!"
Pygmies - and Hutu people - would be very familiar with the dances of the Tutsi (as the Watussi are now called) as they live in the same part of Burindi in Central Africa.
The movements are similar that of the (very tall) Watussi dances - as filmed in the 1950s movie King Solomon's Mines - sadly no longer available on youtube - one of the most incredible dance sequences filmed. Does anyone know why there should be similarities?
It makes me so proud to see the dance.
