this was right after "The Thing That Should Not Be" i'm guessing. Kirk made all these crazy sounds in order to resemble the beast, mentioned in the song, going back to it's dark deep lair. I can imagine this especially with the last ten seconds.

kirk is great in the context on metallica but in reality he isnt half the virtuoso that some people seem to think he is. There are many more far better players out there. He has been playing the same solos now for 20 years. I hope im proved wrong with the new record.

I have spent many a (happy) hour watching Kirk solo here. have also seen metallica live a fair few fans so its safe to say that im a fan.

I say again, Kirk is a great player but their are far better players out there. your comment 'it may not be shredding but i still love it' shows that you are one of the many people that confuse speed with being a good player. 90% of being a great player is about coming up with and playing good material and not the speed at which it is played!
