  • tht thing is huge!!!!:O

  • 5 people cleary dont know what music is...!

  • What's the difference between a contrabass and a bass flute?

  • @GlassTears8 the contrabass flute is an octave lower than the bass flute

  • omg i would love to hav to opportunity to play this!! way better than my flute!! just wish it wasnt so expensive!!!!

  • its a fail cause u cant hear it

  • @WolfyZero1 youre a fail cause you cant apreciate the music

  • @furmaster212 well it would be nice to hear it

  • @WolfyZero1 Your ears are obviously not working correctly.

  • too bad this thing doesnt have wheels for marching band :P

  • @PurpleOfTheRose Oh, I would die (O)_(o) I think my brains would explode from the sheer epicness of being able to do that.

  • @GlassTears8 but it's tempting, is it not?

  • awesome sound - too bad the amplitude and transient speed are low =(

  • that was pretty amazing

  • I'm guessinf no slurring on the thing...

  • WOW! It must be hard to play so high! I love the sound it resonates in my ears.

  • I absolutely LOVE this piece, so much so that it inspired me to take up the flute again :0)

  • How do you use a pitch shifter ?

  • This. Is. AWESOME.

  • hi ! great work ! have you ever try the pitchshifter 1 octave lower with a concert flute? is it nice ? thanks from france.

  • Wow, I love this. Do you happen to have the music/the notes for this? It is amazing!

  • Only two octaves under? Wow, i think it will be much more bass

  • lol 198 "likes" and 5 "dislikes"

i don't like this new layout...

  • I love big instruments! That flute is beautiful!

  • How wonderful sound on grouving !

  • I love the sound it! <33

  • I looooveee this so much!!! Its wayyy better sounding than regular flute!!!

  • Thats funky!

  • I didnt even know there was such a thing WOW, Awsome

  • dude, this is awesome man

  • HOW MUCH AIR WOULD THAT USE!!

  • @icupfreely23,

I played bass clarinet, and that used a lot of air.

This is a contrabass flute, so I'm assuming it uses a friggin' whole lot of air.

  • My guess is about as much as a bari sax. I play the traditional fllute, as well as bari sax. So relative to size, and how much air you waste while making your embrochure, probably the equivalent of a bari sax.

  • NicE!

  • love that sound and your work with the looper

  • sounds way better than the contrabass sax.

  • where do I get one of those instruments? I want one of those and a bass flute.

  • We will be selling contra and bass flutes at NAMM in January

    liam

  • that is a crazy instrument

  • A friend of mine described playing one of those as "like blowing into a tunnel" lol

  • I play flute, ive been doing it for 5 years and i'm going to try doing bass flute, but this is amazing! The sound is so clear and perfect and warm, i wish i could affoard one but they're over 40 thousand dollars!

  • Wonderful!

I play alto and bass flutes, but have never touched the contrabass. :(

    Props!

  • These things are so rare, how did you even get your hands on one? I heard they are about $15,000 and only two companies in the world produce them

  • me semble calme et agréable!

  • the contra is two octaves lower than the concert flute. from low b to high a is the comfortable range, so two octaves and a 7th. the fingerings in the high register are a bit tricky, though.

in some of my music you will hear very high sounds - i produce them with a pitch shifter. i use it for playing an octave or even two octaves higher.

  • how high can the contrabass flute play anyway?

  • ya i play the didgereedo, piano for 8 years with lessons, a tenor sax, and bass guitar. this is the erfect instrument to add to my collection

  • hey.. question about the didgeridoo. Do you know how to use the technique "circular breathing?' if so, how do you do it, and is it hard? My school band had a song written with a didgeridoo part in it (dont ask me why) and you need to play one note throughout the whole song without stopping. Is it even possible?

  • you should just take turns breathing with the flutes around you. if you all of you breathe at the same time the audience will notice. but you have to crescendo back in though

  • It's called stagger breathing and if possible try to breathe atleast 2 beats apart, so it sounds better.

  • I would recommend stagger breathing with other flutes. Circular breathing is an option, but yes it is very hard.

When you need to breathe while playing, puff your cheeks out. While breathing in through your nose, push the excess air in your mouth out. You're not blowing air, just forcing the air in your mouth out, all while breathing. then resume play as normal and repeat. You will sound bad for the few seconds it takes to breathe, this is a very difficult technique to perform. good luck!

  • It is possible. It's all the didgerido does. There are video tutorials but i can't do it. My Didg is just a pretty ornament. I'll stick to keyed instruments.

  • wow. that is awesome. i play the regular flute, but now i wanna play this ;w;

  • Interesting and very clever !

  • Best part was from 0:35 to 1:22. That was a rich, wonderful sound that you don't normally hear. The part after that probably would sound better on standard bass flute and C flute. I could have heard the lower stuff for a lot longer.

  • Me want one. :D

  • lol same!

  • so amazing and calm, I could fall asleep to this :D.

  • This is fantastic! I love it.... Very good felling! :)

  • Hermoso, maravilloso, gracias.

  • It's incredible how warm the tone remains even in the higher register. I've always fancied the bass flute tonality. This is no exception.

  • Oh wow. That. Is. Amazing. At first I thought the contrabass flute was playing in the beginning. Oops. Anyway, I play Baritone, but for some reason I am extremely fascinated in the Flute and Clarinet.

  • i want one

  • this is amazing

  • no matter how many times i watch this, i'm still fascinated. yes, still fascinated a year later.

  • you did nice man, i wish i could play like that, its just i play trumpet

  • I heard the "flight delayed" because he couldn't get the contrabass flute thru security :)

  • What the FUCK MAN FUCK MAN FUCK MAN FUCK MAN????I didn't even knew that it existed

  • OHH! Me wanna play! lol

  • yep it's a flute alright lol...it sound so nice! i'm not sure if it's the same fingerings or not, it looks like there is some difference with that and the embouchure as well.

  • THT IS NO WAY A FLUTE!

  • thats low lol but cool

  • is it the same fingerings as the flute?i've been playing for 3 years.

  • The one Timann plays is by Eva Kingma, a dutch flute maker who makes the best low flutes I ever had a chance to play plus she invented a new key mechanism called "the kingma system".

    Superb!!!

  • how much do they cost?

  • I like the contrabass flute better than the subcontrabass flute. The subcontra bass flute is so low you can barely hear the notes and all the mic picks up is the person tounging. Not very pleasant to listentoo. Anyway, hopefully I'll get to try one of these contrabass flutes someday!

  • @Zombiemuffins13 umm subcontrabass and contra bass are the same lol

  • @yesmynameismy No, there's a difference.

Don't believe me, ask my flute professor...

  • @FlyingBagel Really? Whats the difference...oh and nice username ( flyingbagel lol)

  • @yesmynameismy Not entirely sure since I'm a saxophone major, but...I think it's just an octave difference.

I'm trying to look it up to double check, but I've seen the flute professor play both...

  • @yesmynameismy Subcontra is the octave below contrabass.

  • I like the lower register better.

  • Where would you find one to purchase? I know it would be expensive but I am interested. I like to collect odd instruments

  • Search google for Kotato & Fukushima, they make the best on the market but they're pretty expensive.

For a budget version look for Jelle Hogenhuis from the netherlands. He makes phantastic contrabass and subcontrabass flutes from pvc and they are awesome and easy to play!

  • Probably look up Eva Kingma.... there's a link in the description, too

  • Big :O. Cool ^^.

  • Very cool. Beautiful sound, Keep it up!

  • Contrabass flute: a.k.a. - Digerydoo

  • good lord!

  • This is actually very soothing. I listen to it whenever I'm in a bad mood :)

  • Sounds a bit like a tuba

  • beaut.

  • OOH MYY You must have SERIOUS lung power!

  • ya wat he/she said

  • that is one big-ass flute.

  • Wow.. lol bass flutes are... different...

  • contrabass :P

    Bass is a lot smaller.

  • Nice range and cool song...

If you don't mind me asking, how much do one of those cost?

  • like $30,000

  • contabass flute

  • I want one of those.

  • wow your sound is so relaxed and controlled.

i wish i had enough money to buy every kind of flute. and enough money to get private lessons....you play beautifully.

  • Is it normal for a contrabass flute to be able to produce such high tones?

  • well that's pretty much as high it goes.

  • I got to play one of those once. It was super strange.

  • I can't even imagine how much air that takes in comparison to a regular flute... which takes a lot.

  • wow, that's really cool ^^

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

  • woa r u beatboxing while playing the flute? that is uber 1337!

  • how many octaves does this thing have?

  • Only 1, but from what I understand it's one octave below the bass flute which is one octave below the smaller flutes.

  • Lol, you can hit better high notes with the contrabass better then the flutes in my cousin's school band then they can with regular flutes :)

  • wow. I've just recently discovered this whole 'giant instrument' thing. You certainly got a beautiful sound out of this one, this song sounds amazing. And that instrument's range is incredible!

  • YeeaH! This is a powerful sound! La neta del planeta!

  • oh my GODD this is so fucking amazing.

first time hearing and seeing "the flute"

  • oh my GODD this is so fucking amazing.

first time hearing and seeing "the flute"

  • contrabass insurments are so incedibly expenisve that its not even funny

    this is so cool :)

  • Yeah they are the contrabass flute the cheapest I have seen is like $20,000

  • I have wanted a contrabass for some time, but I can't afford one :(

  • Oh my god. I wish I could afford a contrabass. D:

  • your amazing

  • Are you circular breathing?

  • yes, i am.

  • thank you, hopefully i can afford one =D

  • ive been hoping to invest in a double contrabass G flute and i can not find a connection to one i have mastered the flute and piccolo and i now hope to get my hands one. so i would love to know where you had the oppertunity to buy such an instrument

  • please search the net for eva kingma. she builds wonderful low flutes, also a low g contra.

  • beautiful instrument and song

  • that was wonderful

  • Does this have the same fingerings as regular flute? I play regular flute and piccolo, and right now bassoon is my newest challenge (especially stretching my hands to reach some of the keys, haha).

This is awesome! I hope to try one someday!

  • the first two octaves have the same fingerings, third octave is a bit tricky. as you can see, the keys are designed very comfortably (thanx to flute maker eva kingma). so no stretching needed here!

  • Thank you for letting me know! Oh gosh, as long as I don't have to stretch my fingers so much that my one hand swells up (which happens with bassoon, darn having smallish hands!). I really hope I can get my hands on one of these some day!!!!

  • by hearing this I want to play flute!

  • i never new those existed! awesome tone. i play orchestra baritone.
