Have you thought about putting a wireless surveillance-type of camera on the bottom of the scoreboard, or some other place to then have a live camera on the action that would be displayed on the scoreboard monitors? I like your set up and am trying to come up with a way to mod my Super Chexx scoreboard in a similar fashion.
@Lukenatme My scoreboard monitor is a digital picture frame, so it can't accept live video feeds, but tiny LCD TVs (less than 12") are available that would do the trick :)
due that's sick man. Any more videos of the table in action? The one with the bottle getting knocked off was sick. I always though the chexx table was the best, but this one has to top it!
great game...do you know Subbuteo? (go on Youtube and see it..). I'm working on a custom Subbuteo ice hockey game called FLICKHOCKEY (with Stiga figures), very realistic and cool to play. Want some infos?: flickhockey@yahoo.com
Thanks, that's probably a good ball park number due to its size and complexity. (a new pinball machine for example, is another great 'game room' item that retails in that range as well)
Although there are also possibilities of having simpler versions of the game that would bring costs way down.
Actually my new setup will be a Leafs vs NHL All-Stars format, a throw back to the All-Star games of the 50s-60s, but using modern players. I will still have Crosby (sorry), but also Ovechkin, and Malkin for sure. The John Tavares figure is coming out soon, so he might end up on the table as well. Player pose style is important for table mechanics to work well, so even if I like a certain player, his pose may force me to overlook him.
What I would like to do is create a series of YouTube videos on how to build your own. The first video would be how to build the base framework which supports the upper rink/ice surface. If this video generates enough interest I will continue making the rest...
I would love to help you out, but it probably wouldn't be until the new year as I am in the middle of upgrading this setup (both table and room) which is eating up the majority of my free time. Have you considered building one yourself? Its not as complicated as it may appear, just very time consuming. I could provide a lot of helpful tips if you need them to get started.
The boards & glass are used from 2 McFarlane ice rinks, although I replaced the plastic 'ice surface' tiles that came with these rinks with a custom cut sheet of Sanalite that included slots for the table hockey players. Ice surface was about $295, but will last a life time of wear and tear.
I used parts from various sources. The scoreboard circuitry I used from my old table hockey, but expanded it to four sides. The scoreboard itself was a standard lamp that I simply filled the empty space inside with an LCD screen (stripped down from a photo frame), and 2 speakers.
This is unbelieveable! What a great idea to turn mcfarlanes into a table hockey game. I have two mcfarlane rinks made into one rink but mine dosen't compare!
I am truly amazed and inspired. Congrats on your bubble hockey success! Is the scoreboard rigged to the scoring, or do you change the score manually? I would love to see a do it yourself if you publish a document or blog or something. I'd love to re-create the Buffalo Winter Classic in my basement someday!
its actually a lot different now from when this video was shot. Installed new wood flooring, bar style opening in wall where Crosby popout stands, and a fresh coat of paint on the walls (now Penguins Gold)
Its actually just a digital picture frame stripped down to just the essenstials (LCD and motherboard). I just barely squeezed it into the scoreboard framework. Its an 8.4" 800x600 pixel LCD.
I bought it on Ebay for $30 (reg. $180). Newer models support not only photo slide shows, but video playback as well.
Where can I get my husband one of these?! You are awesome for constructing this. Nice work. Hockey fans everywhere are jealous of your custom game and "man room" too, heheh.
I am looking into some commercial possibilities for this hockey table. I will post any updates regarding this here, so visit back here from time to time to get the latest info.

Have you tried a energy saving style bulb to keep the heat down?
I might try to build one this year, I must do the research to find the men or make those from scratch! Tough project I'd imagine!
Thanks for sharing this vid!
