Mr. Biden, how can Musharraf be hiring fundamentalists in his government, when he himself was plotted 7 times assassination ( 2 of those he actually faced)? I assume Mr. Biden has'nt seen reality or how would he feel to stay in Pakistan for a few days with hefty security and still death threats looming with him.
aleemalpha, there are different sects/groups of fundamentalists in Pakistan with their own motivations and interests, to be fair to senator biden, I think he realizes there are anti-Musharraf fundamentalist groups as well.
The anti-Musharraf fundamentalists do exists because of Musharraf's stance to be an ally in the war of terror. A few weeks ago, when US media was talking about relinquishing monitory support to Pakistan, Musharraf threatend (or pretended to) to give up support to US also in the war against terror, which made headlines and was generally hailed by media and public. If Musharraf gives up support to US today, his popularity WILL soar, and most likely no more life threats on him.
Musharraf has lost a great deal of support in Pakistan by being a US ally in the war of terrorism, and if US politicians think or make fool of US citizens by sayin' that a democratic leader in Pakistan would steer people to love US governments and its policies, they are completely bluffing. As a matter of fact, it won't be an exaggeration to say that in present set up, Musharraf is the only leader in Pakistan to root out terrorism.
I neither listen much to other presidential candidates nor a fan of one, however, I must say Sen. Biden is minutely right but mostly false. When Biden says 65-70% of people of Pakistanis are secular, he should also quote that more percentage of Pakistani people are anti American (which includes moderate, secular and fundamentalists).
grapefruitnas, yes you are right, but you know that incomplete imitation of reality leads to false imagination of actual circumstances. This is one of the most prominent reason for spreading hatred against US (not only in Pakistan or muslim countries). People here assume something based on the incomplete information provided which leads to hatred among nations/groups/religions etc.

(disclaimer: i like biden) BUT... this much starry-eyed phantasy about a basically medieval society, ie feudal & tribal at heart with all its implications esp. also on its leaders, however shrewdly Western-versed they may be... just because you sat in grad school next to them, or something... bananas
I really despise the media in this country. Why would America's mass media corporations follow three candidates with no expierience AT ALL? Guess they care more about money then about America's future. That's terrifying. For the love of God, make up your own minds! Don't let the media tell you who to vote for. BIDEN FOR PRESIDENT!
Joe Biden has the leadership skills that this country is in need of and I love the fact that he always answers the questions that are put to him. I wish all of the candidates would do that so we could know where they really stand on all of the issues. GO JOE GO!!!!
If Joe Biden can just get the attention he deserves to become the Democratic nominee, is there any doubt that he would be the most electable against any of the Republicans? Any other candidate (out of the "top three" the media have decided on for us) is going to get hammered for lack of experience. Joe Biden has it all -- intelligence, experience, passion, a sense of humor. He even looks presidential! Go Joe Go -- and please Iowa, give us a chance to vote this man into office!
I'm counting on the American people to get it right this time around and elect a REAL leader. Joe Biden has a command of every issue that faces our nation today AND solutions to deal with them. He's respected around the world and on both sides of the aisle. This is THE MOST important election in decades and we cannot fail as a people.
One thing Biden didn't mention...a slight majority of Pakistanis are secular and somewhat modern, but what he doesn't say is that a vast majority are nationalists and strongly oppose American influence in their country. Sharif appeals to this majority while Bhutto did not (she was widely considered an American stooge). Would Biden hold to a free election should Sharif enter the race?
At the time of 911,the head of Pakistan's ISI, General Ahmed, was proven to have mailed $100 grand to Atta. When this information went public, Musharraf allowed him to quietly resign. Why didn't Bush demand he be arrested and tried for financing Al Qaeda & 911? Anyone who thinks Musharraf isn't an extremist, is a fool. Wake up kiddies...the wolf is already guarding Pakistan's nuclear henhouse & Bushco likes it that way.
you are completely ignorant. Biden is correct. The vast majority of pakistan is moderate and benefits greatly from good relations with the U.S. There is NEVER a justification for tyranny. Joe Biden knows this issue like the back of his hand. Go Jo Biden in 08!

Boy, this guy knows what's going on. The world is at a tipping point - we need Biden to help us restore our relationships with the leaders of the world.
musharaaf should be tried in a criminal court for murder of bhutto.

Other flashy candidates are suddenly experts on the situation in Pakistan?
Joe Biden has discussed this topic in virtually every debate of the past year, while others went "duh, uhh..huh."
Where are the highlights from Biden's morning press conference (as foreign relations chair)about Bhutto's assassination? Not on any major network...
People of Iowa, and other early states, please do your best to support Senator Biden during this crucial time, the leadership America needs. Thanks.
