  • Is there a transcript of commentary for this video? I would like to read it because the narrator talks very fast.

  • Brilliant set of moves, but I wouldnt call it a new tactic. Its nothing more than an extrapolation than the queen taking the poisoned pawn, no?

  • Chess is a fantastic game. When seeing things like mass distraction in action chess really feels like a real war game with real tactics and strategy. Brilliant.

  • this is absolutely brilliant!

I wonder whether it was all calculated or winged through.

If it was calculated, oh my... haha

  • this seems great, but after h5 there must be a way to defend if white saw the mate threat. and then waht? i am just an average player, enjoyed the video very much, and the idea is brilliant, but i would have been curious to see what defensive move could have been played isntead of the blunder Qa1, to see how sound it was.

  • i found the mate!! of course, after he told us that first move. GO KINGSCRUSHER!!!

  • the white player was not able to sleep for a whole week

  • oh thts a good tactical play lol all 3 pieces sucked in ;ppp

  • aramoticy, the knight must be defended, after white moves Nxc7, black Qxc2, white cannot then actually capture the threatened rook, because black would then take the rook on b1, with mate.

  • great foresight in this game for sure.

  • After Black plays Qe2 threatening to win the Knight, White can ignore the threat and play Nxc7, counter attacking the Rook. The Rook cannot both defend the 8th rank and maintain its presence on the e file after this counter.

Does Black still have a winning attack after this move?

    Please respond.

  • @aramoticy Are you talking about the right game? No white knight attacks c7, and the rook is not on the e file.

  • a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!!

  • Brilliant, but only human games can be brilliant.

This line is refuted in cold engine fashion by Nd5 after b6 which forcefully deflates the situation: Qxc5 Qxc7 Qxc7 Nxc7 and its drawish

  • @QuakePhil I meant to say "can be _thus_ brilliant"

  • I have added the FEN string to the description of the video. This will allow people to engine check the combination. I am not sure if it is sound myself, but it just worked in OTB against an IM.

  • Yes you seem to be right. But as an OTB tactical idea where people have limited time, are emotional and can't calculate that well, it still is a viable concept to try and make use of. It seems Nd5 carries with it the implicaiton of Nf4 if Qe2, thus quickly ejecting the Black queen.

  • @kingscrusher I agree.

That's precisely why I put the preamble that only human games can be thus brilliant -- computers are not the end all be all of chess :)

  • which tournament?!

    What an amazing concept!

The checkmate setup is absolutely world class!

  • Who is the black player, he is ingenious

  • h5 was just amazing! I'm in awe of the foresight. Wow.

  • Amazing game. The very best of present day chess.

  • I would like to memorize this game

  • this is the way chess should be played.

  • Amazing! TY for posting. Diversionary attack, maybe?

  • Aesthetic!

  • I nominate that game a candidate of the Brilliancy prize, thank you.

  • I think even Fischer and Alkine would be impressed by this "peice of attacking art"

  • Wow, wow, wow.

  • That's my reaction, too.

  • amazing game and a wonderful walkthrough of it....like you do, always!

  • Such is the beauty of chess! Thanks again KC.

  • Wow.

  • Beautiful. Mass Distraction is a perfect title for this. The mate, which I too wonder if black saw from the first knight move, I wouldn't be suprised. It's just amazing. I love a good queen sac too! I mean who doesn't ya?

Great vid ,great analysis KC!! thnx very much for the upload.

  • I Wonder how much of this idea black had seen when he played NxP? I can understand seeing that after NxN there's the setup for the skewer on the knights, but to play Qe2 instead of Qe3 to skewer shows either some serious depth of foresight, or some seroius luck. Either way, it was a brilliant continuation: really highlighting the idea that a piece's value can radically change depending on where it is in the (or in this case out of) the position.

Great example KC. Keep 'em coming!

  • I agree. Hopefully there will be other games such as this one.

  • Wow

  • Excellent analysis - how much of that would black have worked out in advance of the initial knight sac?

  • That is just brilliant :D thanks for the vid amigo xD

  • Haha wow that was really awesome to watch.

  • Amazing foresight.

  • Hehe

  • WoW that is genious
