  • USSR was MAIN theatre of WW2. But without USA/British Commonwealth in World War 2, Russia would be fighting the Axis of Germany/Japan/Italy and their allies on Land, Sea and Air - ON THEIR OWN. I have deep respect and admiration for the Soviet Union (CCCP) in the 'Great Patriotic War' but WW2 was an Allied effort.

  • Hi, would you please place subtitles because there is only one other version of it and it is an USA one. That one is not covering it the way it should. Thank you in advance :)

  • I am an American. I can clearly see that the Russians had taken the brunt of the German army at it's highest strength and confidence in 1941 and soundly defeated them in the winter war. I believe the Battle of Stalingrad and defeat of the German army in 1943 was the turning point in the WW2. The Western Allies took some pressure off the Russians with the Invasion of Normany, plus the bombing raids on Germany starting in 1942. The Russians were tough fighters.

  • Stalin spoke off the cuff - and not so badly at that. What I found revolting was his call at the end of his brief speech for all to fight "for Lenin and Stalin".

  • It was like a great middleweight against a mediocre heavyweight.

  • true about the horses...as the Germans drew near Moscow, they could no longer move their artillery, because they lost most of their horses, most dying of heart failure. they were mostly brewery horses, pampered and not used to such work loads in terrible conditons like that.

  • It's forgotten how important HORSES were in WW2. We think it was all mechanized warfare - artillery and tanks.

But Nazi armies used captured horses to haul artillery into Russia; Russians used horses because, in 1941, they had poor mechanized transportation and few roads.

What surprises me is how few newsreels show the importance of horses on the eastern front. They even brought soviet soldiers and equipment into Berlin in 1945 - but I've never seen this in a documentary or newsreel.

  • soviet horse suqads worked well against tanks too

Today we are talking that it's madnees to charge riding a horse with a sword on tanks, but in WW2 they throwed molotov coctails and grenades at tanks very well

p.s in soviet ww2 movies and documentary films you can see very often attacks of soldiers with ppshs and riding horses

  • Many places,you see,ignorants talk about

how NAZIS were responsable of CRIMES and GERMAN people INNOCENT!!!!

That is RIDICULOUS!!! All GERMANY was behind HITLER!!!

WEHERMACHT also is responsable of many PARTISANS and PATRIOTS in

    BELORUSSIA,RUSSIA and UKRAINE;

THE pictures are here in YOUTUBE!

THESE CRIMINALS GET AWAY and only few NAZIS payed for their crimes!!

  • ZA RODINU!!!!!

  • Try to conquer a country spanning 11 time zones? This happens when power hungry generals and military industrialists convinced an unqualified leader Hitler to do. Greed, anger & illusion. The sad thing is that the average decent men & women get consumed in this process.

  • Rise Soviets! RISE!!! Crush the Nazi menace!!!

  • I think Russia is pretty impressive too. My Grandfather was on the arctic convoys from Scotland taking supplies to Russia...he said the Russian people were very friendly and he said the girls had fresh faces and nice smiles!

  • Za rodinu!

  • Imagine Kriegsmarine,Luftwaffe,SS,SD,Kripo,Einsatzgruppen,Gestapo,Waffen and Panzers running around Moscow ^^

  • kripo , ja klar

  • glory to Zhukov the red army Glory to Josef Stalin!

  • Glory to Putin and Medvedev...Stalin was a twat to his own people. They defeated Nazism and he betrayed them.

  • i am a dane.. but still.. Russia is the reason the world is free of Nazism today.

People always talks about the battle of Normandy as the great turnpoint.

I say the battle of Stalingrad, Moscow and berling are the turnpoints. Long live the Russian Motherland.

  • I can't agree, Stalingrad was a major victory but Kursk was the turning point. The Russians whipped the best the German army had to offer and they never had the initiative after that.

  • I'm a Scot and I have to agree with you my friend. We owe a lot to Russia.

  • D-DAY wouldn't even have clasified as a minor skirmish on the Russian front.

I'm a finn and my granfather fought the red army from 1939 to 1944, but that is history and I hope the Russians of today recgnize that THIS was an error from their side, However, the bigger picture of WW2 leaves no doubt. The Red army almost single-handedly won WW2 for the allies and whoever denies that need a head scan.

  • @DrSher You are right. But pls don't forget that the Russo-Finnish war wouldn't have been necessary if Finland had agreed to cede a small part of its territory around Leningrad in exchange for a much larger piece of Soviet territory. This land exchange offer was made by the Soviet Union solely for the purpose of putting Leningrad out of artillery range. This is a hirtorical fact that is hardly ever mentioned by anti-Soviet historians.

  • @subscriber77 Re: your post about Leningrad, Finland and the "Winter War". Sorry to bother you about this, after six months, but please can you revisit and post any sources or references you have - thanks :-)

  • @Qpollo: In my humble opinion. Moscow was the chink in the Nazi armor, Stalingrad was the turning-point of the war, and Kursk was where the Germans were decisively defeated, winning the war for the Soviets. Everything afterward, including the Battle of Berlin, was Hitler's megalomania and selfishness shining through, refusing to spare his people the wrath of Eurasia. From the Summer of 1943 onward, the Wehrmacht was in a long, bloody, impotently-contested march back to their doomed homeland.

  • @MicheasTheMighty: the Germans weren't "decisively defeated" at Kursk. Rather what makes Kursk stand out is where for the first time the German blitzkrieg utterly failed to achieve the great breakthrough. At Moscow and Stalingrad the German blitzkrieg worked but the Germans were ground eventually down. At Kursk the blitzkrieg was stopped dead.

Kursk is where the Soviets/Russians showed how to stop the blitzkrieg...... something no one had ever done before.

  • @Qpollo while I respect your opinion, and agree w/ the main of your point, it's a bit over-generalizing to say any one factor was "THE" reason for the defeat of Nazi-ism; in my opinion, D-Day would've failed without Stalingrad, and Russia would've collapsed without D-Day. My own "single cause" theory (to break my own rule above!) was Hitler's treacherous dealings w/Russia is what broke the Nazi war machine...had he kept peace in the eastern front, the western front would've been a different war

  • @Qpollo and can't forget the greatest tank battle in history, Kursk...

  • @Qpollo American here, completely agree.... The Red army broke the Wehrmacht's back long before we stepped foot on the Normandy beaches...not taking anything away from our veterans, but Russia bore the brunt of the European war, no question.

  • Since 1918 Red Army(now Russian Army),remain as melitary power never seen in history.Glory for ever for saving the world of nacizm!!!

  • eternal glory to the Million who fell to save Moscow , to save our Motherland!

  • from where is this song?

  • It is the 'Moscow defenders march'. Need a link?

  • great vid

  • superb

  • where is part 2 of this? this is incredible footage

  • Do a search for "crushing defeat of the wehrmacht" in the Search box above should return all seven segments of this video.

  • Russians got lucky bigtime

  • not even close... the defeat was overwhelming

  • the russians didn't get lucky at all- they won due to a combination of their own smart tactics, strategy, and bravery in this battle. also, the germans finally realized they were in over their heads. you are the sort of swine that would have been rightfully shot during the war. shame thats not the case now.

  • How could you say they didn't get lucky, of coure they did stalingrad being a prime example of that, it was there luck that the germans where not prepared for the cold winter or the dirt roads that stalled most of there tanks, and germany trying to fight a blitz in russia was absurd giving it size, if they had stayed the course and went for the oil fields like they where suppose to and not make this side trip to fill hitler ego I think it would have been a much different turn out.

  • ne ne anders als wir!!!

  • sub titles would be great

  • long live soviets

  • Stalinist propaganda.

  • Hitler kaput %)

  • i'm no big fan of stalin.... but people who went through that war are largely in favour of him, even today...

stalin propaganda 55 years after his death? still potent, eh? not so sure... but i can see how everything you hear about russia in western "free media" is negative and how every dialogue and debate can be reduced to monkey language of words like "propaganda", "terrorists", "democracy", "dictatorship", "witches" ... you know, name calling, a.k.a. the "free media" language :)

  • They died with his name on their lips. Why? Because he seemed to foresee the German invasion, and suddenly the misery of rapid industrialization in the 30's seemed farsighted on his part. Secondly, he was tough and put ruthless but competent people in charge of the economy and, thanks to his trust in Marshall Shaposhnikov, in charge of the military. Under Stalin they didn't founder and fail, as is Russia's wont, but were victorious. They were filled with pride as individuals and as a people.

  • yes, an account of a victory and counterattack that were actually successful for the russians is propaganda. hope your death is as slow and painful (and desereved) as that of an ssman being crushed by a T-34's treads.

  • vumpsh is right - the Russians rose-up, like the USA after Japan bloodied their nose - and came back with 5 times what Nazi's could have ever done to Russia. Yayyy Russia! One of the most beautiful places in the world. Hugs from Canada.

  • da zdrastwuet cccp !!!
