Thus will it come to pass. A dying leader will know the truth of the Opera House. The missing Three will give you the Five who come from the home of the Thirteenth. You are the harbinger of death, Kara Thrace. You will lead them all to their end. End of Line.
When they first said the lines to themselves. "There must be some way outa here" "said the joker to the thief" "there's too much confusion" "i cant get no relief" I sat there like.....no....fucking....way.
The end of season 3... When this song came on in full force as the four came to their realization, it blew my mind. And then the very final moment of that episode? What remained of my mind was then blown. This song was masterfully used, and the entire end was so beautifully done. Battlestar Galactica is Sci-fi at its best, I think. It's more about the people than about space and explosions, and that's what makes it amazing.
at the begining of the show you want them to defeat the cylons and return to their home planets or atleast find a planet similar where they can resume a reasonably normal life and society. the task for the writers was to also destroy the audiences will for that to happen aswell. for audience to think from time to time that the best idea is for them to give up and die. and then to be rewarded with the bleakest of happy endings, to have the human race only just survive, but all the characters die.
you're an idiot theonetrueiota, one of the main themes of the show was pushing the idea of human indurance to the point where, for the fleet to actually escape and find a home, wouldn't even seem very rewarding because every single character in the show had their will completely destroyed and there is only one reason why they would continue, for the sake of the species.
@shebotnov the ending of season 4 was soo epic that wished it had never ended this wasn't a great series but a great peice of story telling - a tale that you can sit by the fire on cold day and tell it to your grand children even if it is fiction.
@whitemanstand72 Personally I hated the ending. Their actions were all extremely illogical (There wasn't any disagreement on sending the ship and all technology and medicine into the sun, really?), and it basically says that none of the characters had any impact on life at all, except for hera, and that role could've been filled by any one.
after all that happened with the cylons, giving up any future chance of repeating the mistake would seam as a VERY good idea. put yourself in their position: last of your species, thousand of light years from home, most of everyone you even knew is dead, and why?? TECHNOLOGY! they sent the ships into the sun, im pretty sure they kept the medicine. so, what would you do IN THEIR SITUATION?? cuz id take one of those ships and fly into the sun myself to get it over already!
Interesting spin on the lyrics, I actually followed it along. What a loser eh?. I do wonder how badly your mind is twisted and tortured to have come up with that?
I will say this, that was a fantastic show. I just wish Kara, would strip down naked for playboy.
Out of curiosity have you ever listened to the Dave Mathews version? Its something like woodstock 99 I think, live obviously. It's something to behold. The brass is insanely good. I would be curious to hear your comments on it. There is also a tribute band route 61 (or maybe highway, hell I am to old) or something that brings out the violin strings too. Take care,
@atsstockburn damn right it was a fantastic show. VERY few shows nowadays can make music for the moment. Its either action music in a a really slow part, or romance music in a really "exciting" scene. BSG definately gets a 10 out of 10 for its music.
As for Dave Mathews... no can't say I like him. The song itself was made by someone on a high... if you've ever actually read the lyrics. Singing it slow and kissing the microphone doesn't make it any better... thus my first comment. :)
i still remember shedding a tear on the very last episode.
Bill Adama was saying bye to Lee and Kara, when he asks Starbuck "What do you hear" and she says "Nothing but the rain." You could tell just by their faces they knew that was it, that was the end. Best Frak'in show, hands down. When the viewer can be so in touch with the characters that the sadness is mutual, you know they did something right.
@atsstockburn I find my post pretty rational, logical, analytic and realistic. Not a spin on the lyrics but one of the other comments :) And yeah, my mind is twisted somewhat. Tortured, only by this crappy regime/monetary system or whatever. Other than that, I'm good thank you.
Series are like puzzles. You have to figure out the mental state of the characters to understand their behaviour. Most are transparent, some dare to be not, like BSG.
Have you taken a deeper look into the characters' faces, eyes throughout? It's theat great, believable acting that made it easier to understand each character's mind and feelings.
Try being survivor #25,152 for example.
Civilian ship, side-bench, helpless for 4 long years. Stuck in space, and metal.
It finally ocurred to me (after watching The Plan for like the 10th time), does the line "Princes kept the view" refer to the Ones? I say that because Brother Cavil told Brother Cavil that they "Wanted to be petted and perfumed and told we were the Princes of the Universe" shortly before Cavil and Cavil got flushed out an airlock.
YES IT IS ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER. U2 ALSO HAS A VERSION,SO WHAT ?THIS SHOW WAS TOP NOTCH. STORY MATTERS PEOPLE.LOVE THIS VERSION HOPE THESE PEOPLE MAKE MORE TV. MANY THANKS

Me and the hubby are watching the entire series on Netflix. Ahhhhh I love it.. lol! I'd follow the song with a pen and paper just to find out who made it. xD
I think RDM covered it in the commentary at the very beginning of the miniseries (since its like the first thing you ever heard Kara or Adama say). This was just something that got made up somehow, and RDM just really liked it as a piece of texture. He did that sort of thing a lot on BSG. not sure i like the "composed by" credit. this song was written by Bob Dylan in the 60's while recouperating from an accident and heavy influence from a new found interest in the Bible. While I love Battlestar, all you people who write five paragraph comments on the philosophy of the show are all such total NERDS!!! (says the guy who squeals like a little girl whenever he sees ads for the latest new video game...)
I think on some level all of us wanna reach out and live among the stars , maby its because we came frome there in the first place or maby it just because its our destiny and maby , just maby thats why we doo all the stupid things we do down here because we are ment to live up there ..... and we just cant cope with being stuck down here .... just maby
Stop all this bikkering ffks and let yourselves be immersed in the splendor of this music and the intensity of an awesome show! Oh and btw. I found the paart when those jarheads say: "he is gonna take your little robot girl for a ride" and then continue with a very nicely timed Yehaa! quite funny on the other hand the theme was serious and I totally would have tore that bastard up. this whole argument revolves around the way the script builds the characters less about the rape issue per se.
Sharon's rape was horrible...Cylon or not she was programmed to kill but she helped them countless times for peace. I would've done the same thing....remember we are all cylon ;)
SOMEONE SHUT THAT FRAKIN MUS.. oh wait it just the video.

..And more metal. And more metal. And jack daniels.
Your oppresor? More metal. And flesh. Product of? Technology.
You don't want more of that. You don't have the necessity for space.
The needed thing is peace and quiet and birds and tribal chicks.
Main characters? Souls, hearts, minds, lives, even their will broken.
Too much action on the court, for too long, and it's suddenly gone.
And now that your part is done, you're to be forgotten (Kara)
Being sick of people, humans and Cylons. (Galen)

@localfive0 I love how people are posting that quote on every "All Along The Watchtower" video, even if its the Hendrix or Bob Dylan versions

While I love Battlestar, all you people who write five paragraph comments on the philosophy of the show are all such total NERDS!!! (says the guy who squeals like a little girl whenever he sees ads for the latest new video game...)
smearyllama 1 year ago
@smearyllama But, that's what the show was about: philosophy.

I love this mixed version, it fits the song as well, beginning slowly and then picking up the pace. Addictive.

*chills* Love this show! Bear McCreary's music and themes are just so intensely brilliant.

I love how this version of Watch Tower puts focus on the melody more so than the lyrics.
