this kind of 'ad hoc' playing together with other muscians is mainly based on ear,in my view. we know the harmonies of the song, and hear what note is good for the harmonic structure. But in this case it is important to keep in focus the notes played by the other musician and be aware of playing the same notes. instead of that you have to create a phrase which sounds good with the other phrases of your fellow musicans.it is really cool.everything is so spontaneous and happeningright that time
