  • its not yurts assholes

  • what about water shower sink bath etc? What about plumbing and things of that nature?

  • @lestat34208 Some are quite sophisticated with plumbing and composting toilets and the like, very similiar to what you would have in a trailer or camp.

  • @astroguyz how do you install them into a yurt though?

  • Look at the one at 3;11

  • I like the setup at about 1:55 or 1:56 into the movie. Everything I've seen is visible lattice on the walls and windows. Do you know what they did to get it like that?

  • I've never put one up(yet!) But our understanding is that all of the dividing walls need to be free standing, like office partitions.

  • Thanks for gathering all these pics and posting. Love seeing all the different ideas that people have. Want!!

  • wooo cool

  • That Nome yurt (if you mean the one at Anvil Mountain) does get maintained, but the key to keeping it upright in 70mph wind is that it is staked to the ground. Its a Nomad Shelter Yurt - the prototype, in fact. The company is based in Homer now, but we still put up yurts all over the state in some pretty extreme conditions.

  • I LOVE yurts!

How hard and expensive is it to install solar, plumbing etc and be totally off grid comfortably?Im saving for a yurt now and buying some land in the country!

  • We have yet to build...solar we would like to do; as for plumbing, we've put a composting toilet in our converted hunting camp. It works well (no septic!) and cost about 2,000$...its electric powered.

  • If someone wanted to could you live in a yurt year round for say... 20 years?

  • Yes... some of them ressemble permanent structures.

  • there has been a fairly standard yurt up in a mountain pass near nome alaska that experiences 70 mile an hour winds a few times a year, and then fairly steady winds at 40 miles. Snow drifts will bury cabins around there, but this yurt has been up there for 10 years without maintanence, and is still in the condition it was when it was erected

  • Can a person set up a Yurt and then use some kind of spray-crete to make the walls and roof stucco-like??

  • We're not certain but the walls are insulated. That might also negate the portability option.

  • Awesome! Thank you for such a nice video. I love these Yurts to no end! I want one badly :)

One day I'll have my dream. I'm working extra hours just to save for one and have it put on quiet land but on the skirts of town. A stream on the property and small pond. beautiful! I want the big 20 foot one so I can entertain family and friends. I can hardly wait and hope I'm not just dreaming :(

  • umm another video of what a yurt looked like after a big storm was a real eye opener!

  • I make yurts in new zealand and Oz. cost depends on how big and how sophisticated. think about nz$8250 for a 16ft diameter one basic. this is frame cover and door. add extras. 20ft one has roughly 341sq ft floor space so quite big. would sleep easily 6 people.

  • Yeah nice but how much money does a person need to get one of these.

  • We've seen pretty well done units starting at about 20,000$ USD

  • THIS IS MY FUTURE! !
