Thanks everyone for your comments. Nice to hear from you too Abel.
hankpb: using 13 -56 strings was mentioned in the video. The video wasnt designed to include all the gear Hank used over time...just items relating to a particular sound
u didnt mention hanks string 13 - 56 with wound 26 on the 3rd string, also didnt mention vox ac 30 T boost electrics by jennings, and the jennings j40 and rotary cab, and the baby binson, and echoplex
The gear that made the early sound was more attributed the Meazzi as opposed to the Binson, etc.. which had different preamps & produced different sounds
Thanks for putting together this great video and for the insights into the many different elements that combine to make 'that sound'. I'm sure it will be an extremely valuable resource for all of us who are trying to emulate the sounds of The Shadows in the early 1960's. As a TVS3 owner, I know I have the magic box that represents a big part of the equation. Well done!
Thanks for taking so much time to explain why we mere mortals cant get That Sound I could spend my entire life chasing the sound and never acheive it
The Genius of Paul and the dedication to the cause of tracking the Holy Grail is amazing Thanks again guys ps If a TVS3 is going to fall off the back of a truck I hope it falls off at my place
A very interesting and entertaining dialogue on one of the world's unsolved mysteries, The Story of That Sound. I hear your reasoning on equipment, technique and setup that is very valuable to me in my guitar playing.
So I am already looking forward next clip from you guys.
And I'm probably not alone, there is a great and genuine interest in Scandinavia for sixty's music, Hank B Marvin and The Shadows in particular.
Thanks guys. That was an excellent analysis. I always had the question in the back of my mind about trying to get that sound as you know Hank Marvin, ie "Just ask Hank how he did it". I understand now that maybe he is not too sure himself now.
I am using a Vox AC15 with the Celestion greenback and have a question on the relative volume levels on the top boost and master channels but I will contact you via email.
Ive also learnt that 'red wine' is helpful prior to a gig...or Vodka...or beer..or scotch...or...

Hi Annie
Yes Gary Taylor was a member of The Herd. Also he played with the Hank Wangford band and was involved in Baker Street with Gerry Rafferty.
Thanks for dropping in
