I'm so happy to find this on here... I've been looking for it for ages. But I did laugh my ass off at this particular upload because I was sooo into the Moby Dick story, and then the mama whale said "and that was the last anyone saw of Moby Dick" then it ended. I was like WHAT THE FUCK!!! until I remembered this is YouTube. :D
@DeathStarthedragon same here... and i want to thank the uploader as well, it's a nostalgia overload :). This movie should be required viewing in grade school.
@oxockrit It was a Danish animated film from 1984. Part of of my American childhood, and ultra rare on VHS in the USA and unobtainable on DVD unless you're in Europe. This won't help but just trying to shed light on a great film nonetheless.
The quality is fine, really. Pretty good for a transfer from a VHS, actually. The important thing is we can hear it, and it's in English. There's next to no available places online to see this in English. Thank you for taking the time to upload this. =3
The voices in this dub are absolutely terrible. The main character's voice, at least, shouldn't be irritating, but they gave him a stock "dunce" voice.
@leptoceratops Well, his voice starts that way, but keep watching, and you'll find the dopeyness in his voice soon seems to disappear. Besides, I kind of think it works for the dialogue in that scene.
Scene 9:44-49 Will make a great Christian scene. Captain Ahab realized he was going to die, but then he remembered Jesus. He repented of sins and accepted Jesus Christ as his own personal Lord and Saviour before he died. He did the right thing. "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." - Rmoans 10:13 (KJV)
I'm danish and this is a Danish cartoon from the 80's. I used to watch this movie atleast once a day, when I was a kid. :) Thank you for putting it up! I also remember "Fuglekrigen i Kanøfleskoven" (War of The Birds), from around the same time. My favorite without a doubt was "Valhalla". I don't know if they made an english version of it but they must have. It was huge back then, atleast here it was. ;)
Wow. This made my day! After I found it, I actually ran to my mom's room and told her that I found it on YouTube. :] I love this movie. Thank you so much for uploading it onto FaceBook. :D
Keep in mind that even though sperm whales are larger, killer whales have been known to attack very large whales and kill them. They always hunt in groups like wolves or lions.
@SailorJupiter07 Adults don't have a thing to be afraid of unless they have a calf. Killer Whales hunt other whales smaller than them, sperm whale and blue whale calves included. They especially like the tongue.
Oh wow a decent version of this movie, finally lol. I have this on vhs and I almost never get to watch it cause my gf makes fun of me lol than again I can't really blame her. I don't understand myself why I still like this movie. I remember I used to rent it constantly when I was a kid and was heartbroken when they didn't carry it anymore. LOL drove my mom insane watching it so much.
@Fnidner Year... it's called the song of the whales isn't it. At least i think it wat it called in danish. It was a very good book when i was in the 4th grade. A little different than the movie as I recall it.
OH...MY...GOD... Thank you for putting this up! I watched this soooo many times when I was in daycare. The sound effects within the first 30 seconds alone brought back memories.
I watched this movie more times than I could count as a kid. Still kind of disappointed that the first black whale we see is supposed to be Samson's mother...he/she has such an attractive voice.
In the Danish version of this, Samson was voiced by Jesper Klein, Sally by Helle Hertz, the seagull by Per Pallesen, Samson's mother by Bodil Udsen, and his father by Poul Thomsen.
I haven't seen this since I was a kid. I've only seen it in danish, and had no idea it was even translated to english. Like many others here it scared the hell out of me, when I was little.
saslfjajlsdf'jkf OH MY GOD THANK YOU. This movie screwed me up so much as a kid that I've been trying to get everyone I can to watch it, but I've been limited to sending out physical VHS copies. I've been waiting for YEARS for a decent YouTube copy. THANK YOU.
Don't worry about the quality--it's no worse than some of the garage sale VHS tapes I've found.
wow, nostalgia :'D

Someone think they can make us a quality torrent of this? I thought about picking up the VHS on Amazon, but not willing to buy a VCR just to rip it.

Where could one find the actual video cassette of Samson and Sally!?!?
oxockrit 7 months ago
@oxockrit
I got one on Amazon. DVDs are also available, but they were all in Danish so you have to be careful which one you order.
