Im like VERY intrested about this amp, but theres just 1 thing... iv never had an tube amp, do you need to change the tubes sometimes? andd... Do you need to fire the volume up if you want a good sound?
@TheCurseOfMetal Congrats on the desire to move to a valve amp! You do sometimes have to change the valves, but they last for quite a long time if you buy good ones and use them carefully (eg dont leave the amp on when unnecessary). ~18 months between changes of the power valves and twice that long between changes of the preamp valves. And I recently bought a good set of power valves (x4) for £60.
The amp will sound best at quite high volume but you can still get nice tones at bedroom volume
Overkill on the watts...not many of us play thru 4 4x12s or have any need for that amount of watts for the size of places we play. I use a (60 watt) ENGL fireball and I play side by side on stage with a triple recto at (150 watts)...im just as loud at a show on stage. More watts don't mean better tone or better anything. Just means more watts that you'll never use.
@guitaristguy20 They do a 100 Watt version too. I mean, people still buy Ferrari's even though few people would ever actually drive that fast. I'm sure the 200 Watts has advantages for SOME people.
my Carvin VM100 makes my nuts rattle and get a hard on at level 5. With this i suspect you can get a hard on at level 1 and your dick could explode at level 7. this shit is loud. and no i'm not a queer.
Im thinking of getting either his or the ENGL Powerball 2 but idk which one to choose..... someone help??, and also anyone know how much feedback this thing gives.. ? hopefully none..
I have one of these amps, I play it through a Marshall 1960A 4x12.
Cost me £1200 - and worth every penny. We gig regularly in Belfast and I have not come across a better sounding amp - I get a lot of comments about how great it sounds!
I got this amp because I didn't want any effects such as Line 6 or Boss or whatever - pure Valve driven distortion. It really cuts through all on stage sound, for a gigging musician it's perfect. Don't ruin in with pedals!
I play Heavy Metal. I have been looking around for amps. I dont know which is better. Is it ENGL, Blackstar, or Bugera. Someone help me. Sorry for my English.
It depends on your taste. If one was the best, every guitarist in the world would play it, right? You have to test them. But dont compare Bugera to Engl and Blackstar. Thats not the same quality standard.
i actually bought jvm410h and i was REALLY disappointed as it didnt give me the sounds i expected. i was even more disappointed as i couldnt return it. luckily, i traded the jvm and 1960 cab to this beauty. believe me, it was more than worth it. couple of bad things about this amp is that some of the channels share the eq and it dosent have reverb
I disagree,I sold my JCM,and triple Recto to get this after I plugged into it.This head is more versatile, and smokes Marshall/Mesa in almost every way.And Ive been a Marshall die hard for over 25yrs.Have you ever played one honestly? My on ly gripe is you cant assign the ISF/DPR,but all in all this is the sickest amp ive ever played,of course thats my opinion but Mesa/Marshall need to step up their game to compete with the modern amps out there today. Not just B.S.,lots of other amps.
Well, I have to admit Ive never played one, but now I think I should do..
"you cant assign the ISF/DPR": You want to say you cant have a british Clean and american Crunch sound (when not using a midi board) or these 2 knob settings arent saved on the midi board?
I really cnat believe that... You sold a JCM and a Triple Rectifier for this one. So maybe I was wrong and I'm definitely going to test that amp.
Yeah they are not storable features. If My ISF/DPR is say 6oclock channel one,its the same on channel2 you have to manualy set them for each channel. However the new Stage HT100 you can assign alot more features and it has dig Reverb. This has none.I am probably going to lose this for the Stage100 when I get a chance to play one.I still think this was a better amp than my Marshall and Mesa by far.Next line of these I bet you will be able to assign these features.
The lead channel is killer by itself on this one so why not having an almost mesa and an almost marshall to one amp? I know mesa is better but can't do marshall. Same for marshall (altho i don't think it's better). But having both sounds and the infinite in between combinations is killer. And what IS killer for me is the attenuator this one has. From bedroom/studio levels to fucking 100 watt overkill or 200 whatever i will never go more than 50
@christslayer666 Its probably got some amount of it based on it, what with Blackstar being ex Marshall guys and alot of their amps seeming to remind me of Marshalls....
I want one so bad!!! 5:49 is pretty close to the sound i've been waiting my whole life for! I would still do a lot of tweaking to it, but even over a youtube video it sounds intense!
If you want a quick fix mate do what I did. I bought the Balckstar HT-DistX pedal. It has the valve technology and ISF feature and is about 90% of the sound that you are hearing here. Any head on a clean sound, and a 4x12 will give you unbelievable tone. Im saving up for this amp now, but the DistX pedal is awesome and you will get your dream sound I promise!!.
Hey Megasaft.... So far we couldn't compare the two because the Mark V hasn't arrived yet. I'm sure we'll do a review on that one as well so you could hear yourself... I hope you understand that we can't rate an amp we havent't heard yet....
Oh lord, when he hit Crunch mode, my head asploded, that tone is just amazing, and fuller than I ever thought possible, I'm now completely GASing over this amp, anyone know when it'll be around in Australia/if it already is, how much is it?
I found the XLR version really big but I've gotten real good results with simple 6,3 cable. If you do it like this, the power-amp section will automatically be bypassed, so you can't use the master-section and the DPR. But since there is no flowing current, you wouln't need it anyway. If you got more questions, see my channel or got to our website.
Hey Petiethepitt. If you want to use the Amp for recording, just do as follows: Set you sound, turn the amp on stand-by and unplugged the speaker-cables from the speaker-outputs. Then, and only then, you can use the D.I. using a simple guitar cable or a XLR cable to your recording device or P.A..
Hey Guys, I've got an important update. I just tested the D.I.-Out with the Amp in Stand-By, bypassing the Power-Amp-Section. It sounded BLAST!!! Althogh the XLR-Version was way to much, I got incredible results. I know I couldn't do that during the review so you might have to trust me blind in that. But I wouldn't lie because this is MY Amp!!! For further question, contact me via our homepage. The link can be found on our channel. SEE YA
These Demos dont do this thing justice man,Ive been playing Mesa triple recto,JCM 900,2000,Carvin Vl1,for 20 yrs and this thing smokes them all IMO,The voicing options, and the DPR really set this thing appart from the rest.I will have two to run in stereo by summers end.Just cant say enough about this head.
Hey, I totally agree with you. That amp has it all. It's a complett no-nonsence amp. It moves the air like nothing else. I personally rate as THE Top-Amp 2009 and all the years to come. 3 Thumps up!
Yeah,I dont usually say something is better specially than the amps Ive been playing and swearing by since high school ,but this truly does blow all of my amps away in just about every dept.Blackstar went and took everything ive always complaned about tube heads and fixed it lol,the DPR is huge, anyone that plays tube amps will appreciate that option. And all the harmonic overtones come through clean and clear nomatter what saturation or volume levels, thats saying something.TTYL,,Jess
Yeah my rythem/lead singer runs a kt88,M260,and Fender deville. We both use the RJM rg16 for any amp, pedal, rack, signal routing.Highly recomend that for multiple amp,and stereo set ups like we use.But yeah Baron does make awesome amps.I would use them also if they had 4 channels, and DPR options. But totally agree with you they do kick arsh.
Thats my choice now weather to go fender deluxe and a baron or blackstar200. The blackstar seems a but buzzy/fizzy but ill try and go in the store with my cab because that speaker probably isnt broken in properly.
Thats very possable. The 200 I played had a Mesa standard cab under it,and the tech told me the mesa gives it a tighter sound than the oversize cab Blasckstar comes with.Thats what I played and liked and have 2 standards already so I will have the 200's on them. Why spend more my standards are 12yrs old broken in and sound amazing with almost any head on them, lol. But yeah your right I think,a smaller cab with a good set of broken in speakers helps the 200 tighten and brighten up.
But the thing for me is i like there tone and the O/D's are very versital and offer many options to shape your sound, that will be huge when dialing in my pedal board. And since I play all kinds of gigs small and large the DPR is super important selling feature for me.Some gigs are tiny and the recto,900,are just to loud to dial in the sweet spot ya know what i mean.
Well i just tried it and it is fine with a good speaker. The tone shaping is insane. I just discovered the Mako on my favourites as well but that is a brutal machine.
Ha,ha,I know a guy that plays one of those Mako heads.Very nice sounding amp and I believe they are close to the same price range and custom made to order. Not sure on that but I have heard one of those high gain heads and they do sound good, the Baron has a smoother tone IMO though.Just a little silkier if could use that word to describe it.But you know my minds made up already, lol.I just think the 200 will compliment my effects better with its tone and my style ya know.
Go for it. Shame we arent in opposite countries to get them cheaper!I think i read that this has a valve fx loop? Im not sure if it works the same way but i put a valve compressor in the fx loop of my 5150 and v3 and it gave them waaaay more usable gain without any fizzy saturation.
Hmm thats interesting.I will look into that and I allways take my whole rig into the quiet room before I drop 4g on anything.Of cours my board is well over 2500,so it can make almost anything sound good given you spend enough time dialing things in.Anyway man its been great talking with you and having a good discussion for a change.Let me know what you end up with and as soon as I get this rig put together I will post a vid and demo it with my FX,.Full description of my board on my page,CIOut
I just wish this guy would talk less, and use a better guitar.

And all the harmonic overtones come through clean and clear nomatter what saturation or volume levels, thats saying something.TTYL,,Jess

check out baron amps on youtube. they are up there and not that expensive.

Mahavishnu80 2 years ago

And since I play all kinds of gigs small and large the DPR is super important selling feature for me.Some gigs are tiny and the recto,900,are just to loud to dial in the sweet spot ya know what i mean.
petiethepitt 2 years ago
Well i just tried it and it is fine with a good speaker. The tone shaping is insane. I just discovered the Mako on my favourites as well but that is a brutal machine.
Mahavishnu80 2 years ago 7

Mahavishnu80 2 years ago
Hmm thats interesting.I will look into that and I allways take my whole rig into the quiet room before I drop 4g on anything.Of cours my board is well over 2500,so it can make almost anything sound good given you spend enough time dialing things in.Anyway man its been great talking with you and having a good discussion for a change.Let me know what you end up with and as soon as I get this rig put together I will post a vid and demo it with my FX,.Full description of my board on my page,CIOut

Amazing! How about some demo on the 45watts combo?
MajorDatuk 2 years ago 6
Hey, I'm sorry, but we haven't got it in stock right now... If we would, I would ; )
JoeyLight7903 2 years ago 6
Hat denn die 100W-Variante auch diesen DPR? Klingt nämlich wirklich nach ner geilen Idee.
SoulCollector666 2 years ago
Hi, ja der 100W hat ebenfalls den DPR und regelt demnach auf 10 Watt runter.... Genial
