This is really cool I wish I could build one of this myself, but you already mentioned that if I want info about how to build one and also if I want to buy one, you post your e-mail. I already sent you an email before, but you didn't reply me and so I was wondering If could reach you from here and tell me the price of one.
@vcoleiro1 that's why you don't respond all really neally. So it's best to email you a week in advance when I'm about to have enough money. then when you respond, I'll have the money ready. btw, $300 to make one and $55 to post it all in AUD right? that's what you told me via email. just want to make sure.
i think the BAD DUDES arcade cabinet looks really nice. that and ALTERED BEAST. the original artwork on those cabs is amazing. that would turn out well.
@JibranHaidery an arcade machine has to accept some type of currency from the public, otherwise this will qualify for a "portable" device, whether you call it a tabletop, handheld, or "arcade," portable will be the category, not arcade.
If you would like one, I can make one for $250 Aussie dollars plus postage. It takes 5 days to make each one by hand. Alternatively, if you want to make one yourself, it will cost about $120-$150 in parts plus cost of the tools. All the parts can be sourced online at various places. Id be happy to provide further info if you do want to build one yourself. Either way email me at vcoleiro1@gmail.com
@vcoleiro1 are you licensed by the company that owns the rights to space invaders to make and sell these? You could get sued for a lot of money if not.
It uses a licensed space invaders cartridge not a mame rom. In any event it doesnt really matter, as I dont make these anymore, just blank painted cabs to allow people to make there own creation if they want.
@vcoleiro1 Thanks for the reply. One more question, can I have input diagonally with this joystick? Will it just activate 2 directions? Or am I stuck with just one direction at a time?
I had a similar idea where the GBA would slide into a small cabinet from the back with no hacking involved. The cabinet joystick and buttons could be like spring loaded pass-through things, where they press down onto the gba d-pad and buttons. Shoulder buttons would be a bit awkward that way, but they wouldn't really be necessary in a lot of the older arcade games anyway. Anyway, sweet machine!
I noticed a few comments asking whether I would build and sell one, if you are interested in buying one , email me by clicking on my username, and then clicking the "send message" link on my profile page or email me at
vcoleiro1@gmail.com
Alternatively if you would like more details on how to build one for yourself , then also feel free to send me a message with any questions you have. I'll be happy to answer them.
May I ask-- I don't know anything about wiring buttons and stuff, but am going to learn. I'm going to build a SFA3 mini cabinet using a GBA SP like you have done-- I found the joystick you used, but what should I search for on eBay in order to find the buttons that you used? They look quite ideal for what I want!
Also, I was wondering-- would it be feasible to wire up one of the buttons to where, when pressed, it would press TWO buttons on the GBA?
Awsome man love the graphics, i think i will be buying some of those joystics for my arcade maches, how heavy duty are they? i have gone through so many of my little joysticks, there just not strong enough!!!
Thanks dude, your kick ass mini street fighter was definately an insparation.
The joystick is very robust , just be carefull not to keep the iron on the solder pins to long as I did (what was I thinking) , the pin over heated and melted the plastic a bit on the bottom, not that you can see that anyway. Its also the same joystick 33Bender used on his Smallest donkey kong machine which is definately worth checking out if you havent already seen it.
thats epic bro

This things lokks great but fact that it basically Ga,eBoy with some cartridge - doesn't this mean that this is just a hack?

Nice, only thing constructive criticism to add is the shape of the cabinet, it doesn't look like the original. Very well done.

The joystick controls very well. It also is very robust and wont break easily like those tiny 4 way microswitch's.

Ive never checked, It is listed as a 4-way joystick , however, I have heard another youtuber who used this joystick say it can do Diagonals.

The GBA version isn't exactly arcade accurate to the original SI, but that doesn't detract from this at all.
I'm sure if I saw this when I was 10 years old in 1979 I would have crapped in my pants. :) Awesome job.
