  • Wow a family favorite.....When my kids were small we lived on scant cash but always had home canned green beans. We would simmer some chunked potatoes, when just tender add a jar of beans, a bullion cube and some bacon. Simmer together until potatoes were done. It was an inexpensive dinner served with home baked bread and butter. Having not much cash makes you be very inventive and use your imagination

  • My mom makes something similar to this every Thanksgiving but she uses teryaki sauce and honey to glaze them omg yummmy!!

  • yes, I make this dish every year! my grandma used to use hamhocks, but i'm a little more health-conscious, so I tried turkey bacon and it works perfectly!

  • @craftymom7 No problem. If you eat it in strips it does taste somewhat different. But I find that when its crispy and in smaller bites it's pretty close. My husband can't tell the difference. :o)

  • We use turkey bacon too. pork is bad for you.
