I didn't realize Phillip was already an adult while Amanda was still on the show. Were they close then? And who are those two women in the "already in progress" shot with Alan? Is one of them Hope? That shot is so unflattering.
They were near the end of the VERRRY convoluted mystery which was begun at the end of Doug Marland's rein. No idea where he was going with this but it became ridiculous and outlandish the Marland's successor tried to reinvent the story. You've never seen a show so unravel with a change of head writer than Guiding Light right after Marland.
though convoluted, all the mysteries were resolved, culminating in these clips. i agree, Marland can't be topped, but the story was hardly ridiculous or outlandish. it was always about who was really Sean & who was really Sam. Quinton & Mark were each other's McGuffins. Mark was heir to half of Spaulding. the room on the 3rd floor was Marland's idea & is an homage to 'Rebecca'. i really don't get yr comments to be honest.
I think this storyline's ending was during the time in 1983 (April/May) when there was a lot of violence in Lebanon and the Middle East in general (not that much has changed).
Spring of 1983...I remember Rebecca ("Amander")counting down the days for the execution of her plan by putting Xs on her calendar for each day that passed...this was originally a Doug Marland storyline but after he left the show, the remaining writers had to come up with "something" to resolve it. I remember that this storyline eventually brought about the departures of Rebecca, Jennifer, Mark/Samuel, Amanda, and Morgan, and led to the wedding of Nola and Quint...
@Bliss44 I so agree I used to watch this all the time with my grandmother from the late 70's into the early 90's it is still hard to believe this show is gone and you are right especially during the 70' and 80's era I think Gl really was the best soap.
Thanks. I never knew they had that much time together on GL.

The Spaulding mansion was really ugly back then. It looks like an old woman's house.

one of gl's best umbrella stories that involved most of the canvas...mona/rebecca went around for months not speaking...the storyline was so gothic

The good old times. You know when GL used to be the best soap ever.
