identical and fraternal twins are differentiated not by how they look but rather by whether they come from the same egg which separated into two fetuses, or two different eggs fertilized at the same time. they can still look a lot alike even if they're fraternal, just like some brothers and sisters born years apart happen to look a lot a like.

For all those people who are confused. I have identical twin daughters and saying they are identical means they have the exact same genetic make-up as there is one egg that splits. Fraternal twin may look identical but have completely different genetic make-up. They are 2 eggs that are both fertalized.

I don't know why this particular video says " The Identical Olsen Twins." These twins are NOT identical twins, they are fraternal twins. The biggest difference between the two types of twins is that fraternal twins are not developed in the same egg as identical twins are in the mother's body, and fraternal twins only share up to half of their genes while identical twins share all of their genes. Here's another thing boy/girl twins are ONLY fraternal twins, they can NEVER be identical.

@GossipGirlR fraternal twins are when two eggs are fertilized and grow into two babies... identical twins are when one egg is fertilized and splits into two.

Fraternal twins can look quite different from each other, but in some cases (like with the Olsens) they can also look quite a lot alike, it's just a family resemblance. ex, my friends brother (5 years younger) looks EXACTLY like my friend did 5 years ago, if they were the same age at the same time they'd be hard to tell apart too.
