rock and roll is dead and we dont care....thx for this vid...these guys were great in concert...these guys got booed when they opened for jonathan richman, until he joined them onstage
To me The Rubinoos were a cross between Power Pop and Bubblegum. They've always had that sound then again. They've even mentioned how in their early days when starting out did a dance called The Jughead from The Archies, and covered The DeFranco Family's hit Heartbeat It's A Lovebeat.Would love to hear The Rubinoos cover some of Tommy Roe's hits such as Jam Up And Jelly Tight, and Heather Honey, two of Tommy Roe's more lesser known hits.
My band, The Bonamics, was one of my first. I went on to do a few more groups, Power Pop, Glam, Metal, etc., a few that released records, and we were at various times compared to The Sweet, Georgia Satellites, Ramones, Kiss, etc. 3 months ago, we released a 3-CD box set spanning our 25 years in the business, and inluced are a slew of songs that my Power Pop incarnations recorded. You can see that set at www.goodintentionspaving.com. Rawk!
In 1982, when I was 18, my band opened for these guys at The Stage in Danville CA. I can't believe that this is all the video that's out there. Their big hit was "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend." I sure hope they shot a video for it. The Rubinoos were indeed one of the best Power Pop bands ever.
Actually they charted with " I think we're alone now"
They shot "Rock n Roll is Dead" circa 1979 for the Rolling Stone Magazine TV special. I am hoping that is still out there. Go Rubinoos! Any Earth Quake out there with big brother T.V. Dunbar????

Quite possibly, the greatest song ever written. I'm serious.

Supercool- Then tell him thanks- they were my favorite band in high school (81 grad) I had to kind of keep it secret....You know....
I don't care anymore, obviously- but then those things seemed kind of important....
Van Halen! WhooHooo!
They sing like angels and are virtuosos- and haven't lost a step.
I sure wish there were some bands today who sing about sweet, romantic love in 2 minutes 50 with a middle eight and harmonies.
I've parted with a lot of cd's lately- but the Rubes remain!

Nice! What was the name of your band?
i´m sure there are more videos, but this one was the first that i found.

Their hit was a cover of Tommy James' "I Think We're Alone Now." IWBYB SHOULD have been a huge hit but wasn't. Great band!
