Call me a sappy guy but I always wanted to meet the love of my life and have it be as blatant and clear as pip's love for Estella when he first saw her. I did have a crush but I let her go without telling her how I felt one of my big regrets. This movie is a testiment to how if you dont act you lose your chance.

Mrs. Haversham hated men so she had Estella break men's hearts so she could use the tears to power her genesis device to fuse her soul into Estella's which would allow her to go on breaking men's hearts for another generation.

Phantomwaltz--Don't worry, we in England think he is QUITE attractive! He's been in several BBC's, but I like him particularly in Horatio Hornblower, which has a bit more humour and slapstick than most BBC series (and a substantial lack of romance), but he's got the heroic curly hair to pull off the role. I'd recommend it and "Amazing Grace." Then again, I've got an intellectual crush on Wilberforce.

Great Expectations became my favorite book after I saw this adaptation on Masterpiece Theatre. However much I enjoy the movie, I found that the book is even better--deeper--and I read Great Expectations every year at Christmas break. Thanks--yeah, I had never read the book or seen any previous adaptions, so I was expecting more of Pip and Estella, but it was still a really good movie and I always love it when the love for someone never really dies.

i know i've seen the old adaptation of this film and it was suprising 'unromantic' and like you said surprised to fing that there wasnt more to do with pip and estella... i tried to read the book but its quite hard...

I think a good example of love that never dies is my favourite film tess of the d'urbivilles. when even towards the end he comes back and he still loves her and she still loves him. soo romantic..i love films like that...♥
