In New Orleans after Katrina, the police mainly went in "WHITE NEIGHBORHOODS"to confiscate guns. In TX they have to give the tenant 30days, and can't confinscate or damage anything. They have to settle for liquidated damages in small claims court. Differen't states have different laws.

This is a result of a Bush bailout to banks that do not allow small businesses to borrow money. Now who really benefitted in the Bank bailouts? There was a great piece on 60 minutes about people walking away from "under water" mortgages. It's not that the people couldn't make their mortgage it's that the banks won't re-write mortages so they reflect the current value. Good luck America we are going to need it.

I used to work for a dollar store that was nothing more than a front for some money laundering or something? They were habitually late on their rent, never got inventory in, and on top of it all, my paychecks would bounce! So maybe the guy looking for work found a blessing in disguise if they were anything like the people i used to work for.

There could be many reasons why it was closed. It could have been bad management, could have been the store owners actually took off with the money. The reality is we don't know. I'll get concerned when we see 20 to 40 if these reports per day. Let's not forget also that China has decoupled their Currency from US$. That means retailers will have to raise their prices for everything from China because prices will rise. Things will only get worse.

commercial rental law must be different in california...i dont think a landlord can do that in tennessee...he can evict...but i dont think he can change the locks and confiscate the merchandise...its stunning to see

The person who ran the dollar store probably simply mismanaged the money and failed to pay the rent. I can't imagine any dollar store closing due to lack of business. All the ones I ever saw were always packed full of people, even after all the big economic problems began.

The saddest thing I've ever seen was a grocery store that I walked into at 5:30PM on a Friday and I was the only customer. I was flipping out, it felt like I was in a haunted house. They only had one cashier. I noticed that everything was over priced so I bought one item because I felt bad and never returned.  It was a Big grocery store.
