  • Genius.

  • The second verse of this song represents some of the scariest moments in life. That self-destructive period. Even though you may be working and appear to have your sh it together, inside you are burning. When I turned 40 something magical happened. Not sure what it was. I'm no longer racing towards an uncertain future but embracing it warmly. Sorry to be so heavy. Love this song.

  • I still have all my Seger tees they still fit but thats what the Green Beret's 12 yrs, of that then 8 101st will keep you in Seger music and lovin every different situations life tosses at us Afghanistan you need some grass and concrete.Rock on Bro's Get em straight over their!

  • How could get the right and left mixed up? HOPE I'm not against the light. (j/w)

  • 27 people are running with the wind.

  • Being that he came from the same neck of the woods as Iguana Pop, Ted Nugent, Tommy James, and I believe Alice Cooper, Mr. Seger held up nicely under that pressure. Mr. Seger, you did alright for yourself. Good Job!

  • @kja427 Alice Cooper is from Phoenix, AZ. They started as The Spyders at the VIP teen dance club at 7th Street and Indian School Rd, They went to los Angeles and came back to Phoenix as The Nazz and played with Gary Lewis and the Playboys and the Animals at the Fairgrounds in Phoenix in about late 66 then disappeared again and came back as Alice Cooper. Used to go every weekend to watch them play at VIP.

  • A few of seniors from my office ed class attended a national contest in Minneapolis in April 1980, which was my birthday weekend as well. There was a record store down the street and 'Against the Wind' had just been released. We told the clerk that we were big fans of Bob and the band. He opend the storeroom door and there was a stack of promotional posters for the album. He gave us each a poster. I still have it. That was a great birthday !!!

  • My very first concert was Bob Seger in October 1980 at the Midsouth Coliseum in Memphis, Tennessee. I saw him again in March 1983 at the same venue. I'm going December 10, 2011 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee to see him again!!! Can't wait!!

  • I Find it weird that the person I can relate this song to, was born 09/27/1980... the views are 927,927 and the year of this concert is 1980 :(

  • Bob Seger - glad you were the music of my generation! Can I get a witness?

  • @ibelevit I can testify, lawdy I can testify!!! Praise be to Bob!!! Amen!!

  • I saw Seger in Bay City Mi during Live Bullet tour @ 1977. Seger and Silver Bullet put on one of best shows I've ever seen. Everyone in that stadium was on their feet and into it. No other bank I have ever seen has captured an audience like that and I've seen about all the headliners except Zeppelin. Bob and band rocks and ranks with the best of all.

  • This man is one of the best ever !!!

  • Listen to this great song. Why does every comment section have to turn into a war zone? Is it something in the water?

I've done it myself here on Youtube, but really, why? Why the hatred?

    Fighting over music?

Having said that, vincemaes seems to be a trollish, souless ass-hat looking for a place to be, that wouldn't know soul unless it was put in front of him on a plate and he was told to eat it.

  • It seems like yesterday, but it was long ago.......

  • Fail.

This guys was a POS, wanna be soul man.

    God I hage Bob Seger.

  • @vincemaes Fuck you. Why would you be watching Bob Seger videos on youtube if you hate (thats how you spell it) him? No one cares what you think.

  • @vincemaes He probably hates you too!!

  • Sweet Soothing Sounds....

  • Amazing, what a gem...such soul. What has happened to music? Where have all of the real musicians gone?

  • My God, I worked all summer when I was 12 and saved up and got my first stereo from Sears. AM/Fm receiver, 8-track, turn table with dust cover....you know what I mean.......I would put Smoking Op's, Live Bullet, Night Moves, Stranger In Town and Against The Wind on the turntable....drop each LP.....Play one side.....Flip over play the other side....repeat as necessary....Bob's lyrics are so awesome. So fucking awesome........

  • God dam, the live version sounds better then the album version

  • Bob Seger Was the Best to See Live.

  • i made this song long before bob seger start singing it, he stole it from me!! as simple as that!! i can prove it very easily!! i still having the partiture!!

  • Bob Seger still proves the older artist can still ROCK!

  • Bob Seger is the Best there will ever be in my books both my kids & now there kids were raised listening to him. His songs bring joy to my heart as I remember the good old days, Some bring tears to my eyes as I we played beautiful loser at my brothers funeral. Both young & old rich & poor & from all walks of life were at both concerts I was honored to get to attend. I know my family will keep the Seger tradition alive in our family as long as we can.

  • Janey was lovely and she was the queen of my nights,we were against the wind. i was just a teen. what the hell did i know.i miss you Janey.

  • Here is to all you "rebels," and we, the women who love you.... Keep runnin' against the wind! Be blessed!

  • Thanks for sharing this. Vintage Bob!!!!

  • Artists today wish they had these skills! No computer cover ups here! Just plain heart, soul, and talent! Back when songs meant something and were lasting hits! Bob is one of the greatest songwriters ever.

  • @jivetrain68 I have to agree with you. Just like everyone else, I like many artists for many reasons, whether it be their guitar playing, piano, the voice, etc. Bob Seger has it all, but I have to say I love him above all else when it comes to song writing. Amazing..

  • @jivetrain68 amen that!

  • He wrote my theme song, Still the Same

  • I dont need fancy clothes, lots of money, a big house, or expensive cars to enjoy life. ll I need are my friends, family, cold beer and plenty of Seger. God bless him.

  • @Slugg329 Great Comment

  • @Slugg329 You know Happiness my friend.

  • @Slugg329 you just miss the part of the song that reads ""PEOPLE THAT I THOUGHT WAS MY FRIENDS""

  • @Slugg329 : Don't order god to do anything, dammit.

Rock on, Bob! I'll never forget cruising through town to your music, making it to your tunes, and passing out to your music way back when!

  • I've seen Bob twice in concert, and I own all his Albums. :) He's playing tonight in our arena. I can't wait, it's been 24 years since I last saw him. He was great back in the day, he still is...imho :)

  • my dad introduce me to bob seger

seger is his hero, and now mine

  • This guy will always be my man! I loved in my youth and I still love him! Rock on Bob!

  • This guy will be my man! I loved in my youth and I still love him! Rock on Bob!

  • 23 dislikes were blown Against the Wind ! Bob and the Siver Bullet are Detroit American Kick Ass Diesel !

  • Who are the 23 soulless idiots? Learn how to live life...

  • Been rock'n with Bob since the 60's. Was at the Cobo concert Sept 5 1975 when "Live Bullit" was recorded. Bob and the band were awesome back then and they were awesome March 31 at Toledo Ohio's new Huntington Center.

If he's coming to a town near you for this tour, you do not want to miss it. He like the rest of us is a little older now, but he's "Still the Same".

  • @Keto5097 I saw Seger play at a place in Ann Arbor called Primo Showbar

in '74, there were maybe 25 people there. A year later he plays the 3 sold

out Cobo concerts. It's sad that he didn't really get the national recognition

that he deserved until he was 30, he did "Heavy Music" in '66 when he

was 21, "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" in '68 when he was 23, both were national

hits, and he only started to get the record sales in '76 when "Live Bullet"

came out. Oh well, he's rich now, good for Bob.

  • Reminds me of a friend in the 80's ..... and I'm still running against the wind!

  • Bob made it in 2004.

  • héhe_áñYôñè_wánÑâ_chàt_wìth_me_i_fêÊl_sØ_lÕnÊlÿ_tódÅÿ

  • DID BOB GET INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME?

  • Bob Seger, the Marcel Proust of rock & roll. Before him, it wasn't cool to be upfront about remembrance and getting older and trying to piece it all together. Him and Ray Davies, the guys who proved that rock & roll needn't forget.

  • Ok,but so strange.I've grew up un Seger.& it seams that no matter what style of music you listen to..Everyone knows who he is..Even if it's just 1 song. You know who he is..Does that not make him the greatest?? It does to me..

  • Seger will out sing any 1 no matter how old he gets. not a day goes by that i don't listen to at least 1 of his albums

  • @buggamum77 I'm a fan from way back....I know that shit is right

  • COOL!!! REAL MUSIC!!!!! It could not get any better than this. I love live performances. That's when the real and true talent shows.

  • This man is not capable of making shitty music, very hard to come by these days.

  • There is so much about this track that resinates with me,fighting against the establishment, ther constant struggle with life and the search for personal freedom. He is now, and always has been, an amazing perform and I regret never having the opportunity to see him perform live.

  • "Artist" these days could only hope to hold a candle to this... and they would still fail to even come close.

  • did anyone see the awesomness leak out of his ear during the chorus

  • Surrouned by stranges I thought were my friends......5 years in Seattle will make you believe that.....

  • Everything done today is built on what was done yesterday in time and there is nothing better then the real thing...........

  • 21 ppl dnt no good music when they hear it

  • so, I guess this sucks??? 21 Bieber fans can't be wrong, right???

Bob Seger f'in' Rawks! Been listening to him for 42 years.

  • back in those days, you were recognized by fans on your talent, not how well you wore a tight pair of designer jeans.now alot of women (including my own mom} found seager to be really sexy, but hes no feminine pretty boy.damn, what happened to music being about the music. now days its all about sex-appeal of the singer. give me some seager and slap that bieber kid!!!

  • yup bob is best

  • Amazing!!!

  • Thanks for the vid, brother.

  • yea, this song will make you go back in time and reflect.definately can choke you up.powerful song

  • I saw Seger 3 times in Florida, best damn show EVER. You could just see he was having as much fun as we were. Class act.

  • bob seger puts so much talent into his lyrics, it's amazing

  • love me some bob seger

  • I listen to my local oldies stations a lot and one day I was driving and this came on. I'd heard it b4 but never really listened to the lyrics. I was totally hooked after I did. The line" wish I didnt know now what I didn't know then" really stuck with me; (even though I didn't really understand it at that point.) It has 2 be one of the greatest lines ever written.period. I also love the music of the song, the combination of guitar and piano. I really like the raspy tone of his voice as well.

  • @vidlvr99

I agree, great lyrics. He actually pondered over that lyric for quite some time thinking it may not come across as intended. I think it is brilliant. Big fan here.

  • @jimmyroche Thank You for honoring this artist with words of a discerned heart and intellect(=

  • This was playing while my mom died. It was she and my dads favorite song.

  • still love ya cuz all the more even after so many years

  • muscle shoals thank you

  • Still the man!

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band..... sHOW DE bola dos anos 80...Valeu D + e obrigado e fiquem na PAZ DE CRISTO O SENHOR!!!

  • Hyjinx

  • please check out James Dupré's version of this song. it is brilliant

  • The honesty of lyric and voice is what "real " music is all about. There are very few artist that can master both...Bob Seger is one of the few. On a bad night , when everything seems to be closing in on me, I can run against the wind with Bob and all the walls fall down.....Give me that "ole time Rock n Roll!!!"

  • Great song, but I hope he didn't pay those three chicks in the background too much for their dancing. They're comical.

  • this is one of the best videos posted here on youtube....reserved for people with sound musical taste.

  • WHY oh why can't someone WRITE music like this anymore?

  • oh bob i love u

  • my father's favorite song

  • I once read an interview with Seger where he said that his voice is like Springsteen's in the way that it's just "There"..He sings better after warming up a little but overall it rings out the same every time...Not many bad notes..Combination of vocal chords and style I guess....Always sounds good to me.

  • story of my life :)

  • We had good times then...

We all stood against the wind.......of change

  • I'll be damned if this song doesn't damn near choke me up everytime I hear it.

  • @TheDoomfarmer i kno damn! its annoying i just wanna jam to this song but i cant i get overwhelmed

  • @TheDoomfarmer Amen, brother.

  • @TheDoomfarmer well,go get some medication buddy!!!

  • Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then...

  • Hell yeah, Seger!

  • wish i didnt know now....what i didnt know then.....

  • This is what you call a GREAT ARTIST

  • Namgoz, the funny thing about that line is that he never really liked it. In the liner notes from his Greatest Hits CD he states that, to him, that line never made any sense but so many people seemed to like it so it must be something...lol

  • He uhh...he kinda looks like Will Riker from Star Trek TNG....

  • "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then..." In one line, consisting of a few simple words, he's captured an entire lifetime. What happened that we no longer get artists like this?

  • Is the guy even capable of singing a flat note?

I guess back then, when you don't have computers singing for you. You learn to sing.

    Bob Segers is amazing.

  • @redmoonspider I totally agree with you...They didn't have sophisticated computers to enhance their voices. It was pure, raw talent and Bob Seger was and still is one of the best.

  • @redmoonspider fucking right!!

  • Truly a beautiful song.

  • We saw Bob a few years ago in Charleston, WV where everyone, seemingly, knew the words to all his songs. And the audience had REAL cigarette lighters, which they waved in rhythm to the music. The police watched from the periphery, fans too. One of the best concerts we've ever seen.

  • i'm only 25 years old but i definitely love this music so so much.

i want my 2-week old daughter hear this.^_^

  • Tangent, I'm 47 years old. My youth was defined by Bob Seger. I worked as a musician from the age of eigheen until the age of forty.

For these videos I thank you. Bob was young and beautiful - and we will NEVER have music like this again.

I thank you, my friend, from the bottom of my heart.

  • Very very very sound.

  • Thats Chad from Nickelback on the piano

  • @jmrfloyd1 LMAO Thats Craig Frost from Grand Funk Railroad on the piano.

  • 20 dislikes!!!!! people dont deserve there sense of hearing

  • @cabraharp01 OMG! You are soooo right. The ones who don't like this never had a live.

  • Awesome awesome awesome sing!!

  • Like I said before.....Here's the real boss.

  • Who's the guy on piano?

  • wish I didnt know now what I didnt know then...love that line.

  • Like a dog, you kiss my hand..and I say "all-right-then"

Like a nature-born-salmon you go your own way , and YOU deserve my RESPECT!

    Bernard

  • my dad was a crop-duster in the delta and his helmet had this song title painted on it. he lived the words of this song every day he was alive...rip bhh....

  • Love this song reminds me of my dad....rip

  • I used to bang Peggy Shannon in the ass while listening to this song....I'm just saying
