The second verse of this song represents some of the scariest moments in life. That self-destructive period. Even though you may be working and appear to have your sh it together, inside you are burning. When I turned 40 something magical happened. Not sure what it was. I'm no longer racing towards an uncertain future but embracing it warmly. Sorry to be so heavy. Love this song.

@kja427 Alice Cooper is from Phoenix, AZ. They started as The Spyders at the VIP teen dance club at 7th Street and Indian School Rd, They went to los Angeles and came back to Phoenix as The Nazz and played with Gary Lewis and the Playboys and the Animals at the Fairgrounds in Phoenix in about late 66 then disappeared again and came back as Alice Cooper. I saw Seger in Bay City Mi during Live Bullet tour @ 1977. Seger and Silver Bullet put on one of best shows I've ever seen. Everyone in that stadium was on their feet and into it. No other bank I have ever seen has captured an audience like that and I've seen about all the headliners except Zeppelin. Bob and band rocks and ranks with the best of all.
Listen to this great song. Why does every comment section have to turn into a war zone? Is it something in the water?
I've done it myself here on Youtube, but really, why? Why the hatred?
Fighting over music?
Having said that, vincemaes seems to be a trollish, souless ass-hat looking for a place to be, that wouldn't know soul unless it was put in front of him on a plate and he was told to eat it.
I think Bob takes all of us back to an era when life was soooo good!! Go to work/school...come home....crack a brew..hang out with friends....i dig this cat soooo much....life without Bob?? Nahh...hard to imagine!! Yep...a time gone by....DAM i miss those days too!!
Thanx Bob for the Memories... I couldn't have made it through my teen years without you. Born in '63, times were so different back then. However now Grown and a Mother myself, yep made it through those teen years! And as I promised myself ALL THOSE YEARS AGO... My grown sons 24 and 21, yep they made it though their teens years as well, and yep they KNOW MR BOB SEGER! and YEP as a FAMILY WE ALL LOVE YOU THANX
My God, I worked all summer when I was 12 and saved up and got my first stereo from Sears. AM/Fm receiver, 8-track, turn table with dust cover....you know what I mean.......I would put Smoking Op's, Live Bullet, Night Moves, Stranger In Town and Against The Wind on the turntable....drop each LP.....Play one side.....Flip over play the other side....repeat as necessary....Bob's lyrics are so awesome. So fucking awesome........
i made this song long before bob seger start singing it, he stole it from me!! as simple as that!! i can prove it very easily!! i still having the partiture!!
Bob Seger is the Best there will ever be in my books both my kids & now there kids were raised listening to him. His songs bring joy to my heart as I remember the good old days, Some bring tears to my eyes as I we played beautiful loser at my brothers funeral. Both young & old rich & poor & from all walks of life were at both concerts I was honored to get to attend. I know my family will keep the Seger tradition alive in our family as long as we can.
Artists today wish they had these skills! No computer cover ups here! Just plain heart, soul, and talent! Back when songs meant something and were lasting hits! Bob is one of the greatest songwriters ever.
@jivetrain68 I have to agree with you. Just like everyone else, I like many artists for many reasons, whether it be their guitar playing, piano, the voice, etc. Bob Seger has it all, but I have to say I love him above all else when it comes to song writing. Amazing..
I dont need fancy clothes, lots of money, a big house, or expensive cars to enjoy life. ll I need are my friends, family, cold beer and plenty of Seger. God bless him.
I've seen Bob twice in concert, and I own all his Albums. :) He's playing tonight in our arena. I can't wait, it's been 24 years since I last saw him. He was great back in the day, he still is...imho :)
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
Incredible words. I love the phrase "I wish I didn't know now, what I didn't know then". It is so great to be young and stupid. Age has taught me many lessons. Some I wish I never had to learn...Those words would have meant nothing to me years ago, but now I understand
Been rock'n with Bob since the 60's. Was at the Cobo concert Sept 5 1975 when "Live Bullit" was recorded. Bob and the band were awesome back then and they were awesome March 31 at Toledo Ohio's new Huntington Center.
If he's coming to a town near you for this tour, you do not want to miss it. He like the rest of us is a little older now, but he's "Still the Same".
Bob Seger, the Marcel Proust of rock & roll. Before him, it wasn't cool to be upfront about remembrance and getting older and trying to piece it all together. Him and Ray Davies, the guys who proved that rock & roll needn't forget.
Ok,but so strange.I've grew up un Seger.& it seams that no matter what style of music you listen to..Everyone knows who he is..Even if it's just 1 song. You know who he is..Does that not make him the greatest?? It does to me..
There is so much about this track that resinates with me,fighting against the establishment, ther constant struggle with life and the search for personal freedom. He is now, and always has been, an amazing perform and I regret never having the opportunity to see him perform live.

You know this man is has talented as anyoneand I mean ANYONE.He just goes about it differently.I've never seen him live.[I do'nt think he likes England too much] and I very much regret that. All of his songs connect with me.Bring on the next album
back in those days, you were recognized by fans on your talent, not how well you wore a tight pair of designer jeans.now alot of women (including my own mom} found seager to be really sexy, but hes no feminine pretty boy.damn, what happened to music being about the music. now days its all about sex-appeal of the singer. give me some seager and slap that bieber kid!!!
I listen to my local oldies stations a lot and one day I was driving and this came on. I'd heard it b4 but never really listened to the lyrics. I was totally hooked after I did. The line" wish I didnt know now what I didn't know then" really stuck with me; (even though I didn't really understand it at that point.) It has 2 be one of the greatest lines ever written.period. I also love the music of the song, the combination of guitar and piano. I really like the raspy tone of his voice as well.
I agree, great lyrics. He actually pondered over that lyric for quite some time thinking it may not come across as intended. I think it is brilliant. Big fan here.
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band..... sHOW DE bola dos anos 80...Valeu D + e obrigado e fiquem na PAZ DE CRISTO O SENHOR!!!
The honesty of lyric and voice is what "real " music is all about. There are very few artist that can master both...Bob Seger is one of the few. On a bad night , when everything seems to be closing in on me, I can run against the wind with Bob and all the walls fall down.....Give me that "ole time Rock n Roll!!!"
I once read an interview with Seger where he said that his voice is like Springsteen's in the way that it's just "There"..He sings better after warming up a little but overall it rings out the same every time...Not many bad notes..Combination of vocal chords and style I guess....Always sounds good to me.
Namgoz, the funny thing about that line is that he never really liked it. In the liner notes from his Greatest Hits CD he states that, to him, that line never made any sense but so many people seemed to like it so it must be something...lol
"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then..." In one line, consisting of a few simple words, he's captured an entire lifetime. What happened that we no longer get artists like this?
Namgoz, the funny thing about that line is that he never really liked it. In the liner notes from his Greatest Hits CD he states that, to him, that line never made any sense but so many people seemed to like it so it must be something...lol
@redmoonspider I totally agree with you...They didn't have sophisticated computers to enhance their voices. It was pure, raw talent and Bob Seger was and still is one of the best.
"Thoughts and Concepts abound within us all. What we seek in life changes us, we can't have a single yesterday replayed, left behind you on your way, your life is now live it from within" ~indigenousman
We saw Bob a few years ago in Charleston, WV where everyone, seemingly, knew the words to all his songs. And the audience had REAL cigarette lighters, which they waved in rhythm to the music. The police watched from the periphery, fans too. One of the best concerts we've ever seen.
my dad was a crop-duster in the delta and his helmet had this song title painted on it. he lived the words of this song every day he was alive...rip bhh....
Genius.

@Keto5097 I saw Seger play at a place in Ann Arbor called Primo Showbar
in '74, there were maybe 25 people there. A year later he plays the 3 sold
out Cobo concerts. It's sad that he didn't really get the national recognition
that he deserved until he was 30, he did "Heavy Music" in '66 when he
was 21, "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" in '68 when he was 23, both were national
hits, and he only started to get the record sales in '76 when "Live Bullet"
came out. Oh well, he's rich now, good for Bob.

back in those days, you were recognized by fans on your talent, not how well you wore a tight pair of designer jeans.now alot of women (including my own mom} found seager to be really sexy, but hes no feminine pretty boy.damn, what happened to music being about the music. now days its all about sex-appeal of the singer. give me some seager and slap that bieber kid!!!

@vidlvr99

Great song, but I hope he didn't pay those three chicks in the background too much for their dancing. They're comical.

He uhh...he kinda looks like Will Riker from Star Trek TNG....

"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then..." In one line, consisting of a few simple words, he's captured an entire lifetime. What happened that we no longer get artists like this?

Is the guy even capable of singing a flat note?
I guess back then, when you don't have computers singing for you. You learn to sing.
Bob Segers is amazing.
redmoonspider 1 year ago 60
@redmoonspider I totally agree with you...They didn't have sophisticated computers to enhance their voices. It was pure, raw talent and Bob Seger was and still is one of the best.

We saw Bob a few years ago in Charleston, WV where everyone, seemingly, knew the words to all his songs. And the audience had REAL cigarette lighters, which they waved in rhythm to the music. The police watched from the periphery, fans too. One of the best concerts we've ever seen.

Tangent, I'm 47 years old. My youth was defined by Bob Seger. I worked as a musician from the age of eigheen until the age of forty.
For these videos I thank you. Bob was young and beautiful - and we will NEVER have music like this again.
I thank you, my friend, from the bottom of my heart.
