  • NASA does indeed know, along with anyone else who bothers to look these things up. Earth orbit is absolutely full of stuff. We have seen up _several thousand_ satellites. There are _hundreds of thousands_ of pieces of debris being tracked. That's not even including natural stuff.

    Obviously if you were seeing UFOs and NASA wanted to cover this up, they just wouldn't release the video!

  • Space junk and everything in orbit moves. It has to be moving pretty fast or else it won't be in orbit anymore! A tight low Earth orbit has a speed of around 7 kilometers per second. That is about 25000 kilometers per hour. Orbits with a high apoapsis and low periapsis can go up to around 11 km\second at the low point.

    The observer is in orbit too. Anything in a _differing_ orbit will appear to move very fast. The more similar the orbit, the slower the motion appears from an orbital viewpoint.
