Wow completely agree with you on this one. The movie had an awesome start, then it became some shitty drama with plain awkward scenes of the guy just smirking creepily.
this movie was cool.... except with the hour long pauses between ryan gosling replying with a "yea" or "okay" or "insert really short response" without the pauses it would be like 30 mins less...
idgaf about what people say, this movie is horribly boring. and if you found it interesting, it doesnt mean your deep or u get film, it also means your boring. guys says 15 words. and its not like there ground breaking. words. Its just retarded. at the end, he doesnt get the girl, the money, and loses his best friend. but not even in a dramatic wow way. movie is terrible, absolute garbage. and it should have been nominated for haha lets see how shitty we can make a movie and have viewers.
@proMaG90 I know that from now on, the Oscars will have NO value to me. The fact that "Drive" wasn't even nominated best picture, is nothing short of absurd.
i'm not a big fan of 'art house' movies, but i loved drive. the movie is all about characters and atmosphere. you see 'the driver' start off as a quiet guy, but as the movie progresses he turns into something much darker. was he always that way? is it out of necessity? WHO FUCKING KNOWS?! THAT'S THE BEAUTY OF THIS MOVIE!
I loved almost everything about Drive, but it did leave me wanting more of its fantastic action and driving scenes. Even so, I haven't been this thrilled or shocked by something in a long time.
@aigg: masterpiece? Really? Best movie out the last 10 years? Again, really? Either you have been living under a rock for the last 10 years or your nose is so stuck in the air you can smell what you are shoveling. The only thing this movie was a masterpiece of was boring me to death. Thankfully I borrowed the DVD and didn’t spend any money on this crap. In fact I told the person I got it from that he doesn’t get it back cause I’m going to burn it and save someone else from watching it.
@Venomxjjb So you didn't get it. Fine. But is that really something worth bragging about? The fact that you got bored from watching this movie, tells me that this kind of movie simply isn't for you. This movie definitely divides audiences. However, what you see is that 99% of those who hated it, missed practically everything that makes it great. That is, they didn't get it. Personally, I can not for the life of me figure out why anyone would find this movie boring. Definitely on my top 5 list.
@osianozzy I have to agree. The driving scenes that the film did have were fucking amazing. A big, long car chase right after he kills Bernie would've been fantastic.
@kylewolfkind did u just compare drive to, transporter. LOLOLOL DRIVE SUCKED SO MUCH COCK, SHOULDA BEEN CALLED CONE HEAD. Transporter on the other hand is a proper action film. with more than ten lines of dialoge
I rented Drive last night and I thought it was an awesome movie with a fun story, good directing, cool and stylish cinematography and fantastic acting performances especally from Albert Brooks as the insane Bernie Rose.
The only thing I did not like about Drive was the over exaggerated and short action scenes.
Despite that complain I give Drive 4 out of 5 stars.
ehh it was ok but too artsy for my taste i like those down to earth dramas (kings speech, saving private ryan, etc) and those BAD ASS action movies (act of valor, death race, smokin aces, etc) but i thought it would be both but definitley for the artsy lovers.
Pretentious: Attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed. The trailer for "Drive" tits itself as an action flick, which it isn't. The film bills itself as a cerebral art-house film. It is not that as well. Fans applaud the amazing performances of the two conventional characters in "Drive", when all but one delivers dull witted monosyllabic dialogue at a snails pace. How is this movie anything but pretentious?
One of the most over-hyped, overrated, heavy handed, boring, ill-paced, pretentious films I've ever come across. I'd rather watch algae grow on an aquarium than have to sit through this pig again...
Drive only had a few driving scenes, yes. But Drive is the theme of the movie, not the action. What drives people to do things? Where and what is your destination? What do you do once you drive yourself there? How will you drive yourself? Those kinds of questions.
I have seen this movie before only way freaking better. Its called Transporter see it instead, Drive was crap. if you dont believe me heres the premiss of Drive:
Guy is Driver, Driver finds girl, Driver falls for girl, Driver tries to help girl, Driver gets caught up in more than he wanted, Driver exacts revenge.
Now swap the word Driver for the word Transporter and you have the same movie only 100 times better!
@Venomxjjb Transporter?!? Are you fu#!in' kidding me? Transporter is just an other mindless crap-in-the-head action flick. I'm not telling you to not like Transporter, but I am telling you that comparing the two is silly. Drive was never meant to be horsepower masturbation for the numb masses, and it has nothing in common with Transporter. If Drive had been more like Transporter, then it would have lost everything that makes it a masterpiece. Drive is the best movie out the last 10 years - easy.
@aigg this is a dumb comment. drive is the best movie out of the last ten years. If i shared a cup of coffee with you i prlly would die of boredom. I watched the movie, I'm pretty intelligent, it did not try to hold a higher meaning, just a shitty film.
@mossyncamo "I'm pretty intelligent"... Whenever someone feels the need to make that statement in order to support their views, intelligence is not the first thing that comes to mind. I have scoured by brain in the lookout for possible contestants, but honestly; I can not say I remember having seen a picture that moved me in such a profound way in a very long time. It is perfectly OK for you to not like this movie, but judging from your argumentation, it does seem that it was lost on you.
@aigg Please tell me what is so moving about the movie at all. The poorly written dialogue. Even though there wasn't much to begin with. The kind of alright plot/storyline. Random guy is a good driver, Random guy meets girl, Random guy gets in shit due to/related to girl. Random guy gets revenge to protect the girl, Random guy doesn't get the girl, money, and loses his best friend. Promptly stabbed. End of movie. So moving, then in between its just a bunch of awkward smiling. shit movie.
@mossyncamo your first problem is that you're calling the guy 'random' but clearly he's not; he's the focal point of the film. secondly, the "shit" he got himself into had nothing to do with the girl. he did it for her husband. also, you forgot to mention the girls son. maybe he did everything to protect the boy because he saw him as innocent; something that he isn't. the movie isn't about driving, money, or girls. it's about us seeing a transformation from light to dark..nature or nurture
@07foxmulder no he is a random guy, not much depth to his character, hes kinda just there. At what point was it light-dark. The movie starts off dark, hes a driver for criminals not to happy, and bright. and for the nature vs nurture comment you are fucking retarded. That concept applies to nothing in this film. Actually that concept applies to no film ever made, unless your talking about the evolution of a species, mainly humans. This movie was horribly boring. End of Story.
@07foxmulder and u clearly didnt understand the movie fuck wit. he didnt do it for the husband, he did it to protect the wife and son. not the husband. THE only reason he did it, was the people that were owed money said if he doesnt have the money hes coming for the family and gave the kid a bullet. WHICH is suppose to imply that bullet is intended for the son. This is the kind of person that finds the movie interesting. so i am completely right. when i say it was boring.
@mossyncamo well, fuck wit, you see his character transform from a quiet guy to a murderer. that's what i meant from light to dark. the whole nature vs nurture thing might have been over your head so i'll explain. did he murder those people because he was always a killer on the inside (nature), or did he do it because he felt forced to (nurture). understand? that's okay that my comment, and drive, was over your head. i'm sure michael bay has a few movies coming out that you'd enjoy.
@07foxmulder well if tht is ur argument than ever movie ever, that involves a man having to kill for a female, as epic, cuz is he a killer before or did he do it for the girl. your argument is completely irrelevant. clearly he wasnt a murderer before, hence he didnt carry a gun. so that would imply his intentions of not killing anyone. and he only killed people that threatened the girl or the boy. you sir are fucking retarded. if he was a murderer. he would be killing other people.
@mossyncamo yes, themes can be discussed in every film ever made, every book ever written, every play that has been performed, every song ever played... it's okay that you're having a hard time understanding it. like i said, michael bay has a grand selection of movies that you'd enjoy.
@07foxmulder i love how u keep implying im dumb when i clearly just destroyed every argument you just tried to make. I guess thats the true beauty in being stupid. You obviously can't see I won.
@TheShismo As far as I'm concerned, "Drive" is a perfect movie. The imagery, the music, the soundscapes, the acting - everything! Jeremy's taste is far from perfect:)
the reason that the movie was fast past and exciting in the first five minutes was great, then to slow down was incredibly important; this showed how much he cared for her because the movie sacrificed half the film of fun. also from taking a break from action it made the first bloody scene that bit more gory. it was all for her.
Jeremy,i really dont get how you could sit threw two and a half hours of "Transformers Dark of the Moon" then recommend it in your review, then call an hour and a half (drive) of beautiful directing boring.Dark of the moon was one of the most boring/waste of time (along with obnoxious, frustrating movie experiences) ive ever sat threw in my life,Anyway i respect your opinion,i just dont get it lol (however if you gave dark of the moon a negative review,i would get it)
Uh, The Fast And The Furious, Gone In 60 Seconds both those movies remind me of better times when Nicholas Cage did awesome films and when Vin Diesel stuck to what he was god at.
@Nabolzi Drive is completely amazing agreed. When they dont need to talk throughout a movie and still make it super engaging i think its a win for movies in general
The trailer was absolute shit and i feel like its one of the reasons Jeremy didn't like it. I watched the trailer after watching the movie and i was like ... what? I can see how that would ruin the movie for people.
When I watched this there moments that when I saw I was like - There is now way they would react like that! This movie seemed to me influenced by Taxi Driver.
@CORELMOTIONS Uhhh death race sucks have you even seen the second one? i watched about 20 minutes.. was the most horrible thing i have ever seen while the first was better it still was pretty generic
awesome movie. I do like art house films and agree that it captures that audience. The opening drive scene does pretty much kick ass. What does tour de force mean? lol
Most of the reason's why people don't like this film is because it's very slow pace, and I can agree with that, I mean that's the style of the movie, and in my opinion, I like it. But some people are expecting Fast Five or something like wtf. And I didn't like the ending at first, but it's one of those open ending's that leave you thinking if it was a good or bad ending.
I don't know why but these videos where they are constantley cutting from one sentence to another bugs the hell out of me. I'm not saying you should do the whole thing in one take, but can really not deliver more than one sentence at a time?
@xNecroKey Lowest to highest : Dogshit, won't remember in less than t minus, good time if you're drunk, tour de force, good time no alcohol required, blu-ray, awesometacular.
I feel so sorry for so many viewers who were cheated out of the incredible experience watching this movie offers by the POS marketing campaign. Drive is the kind of movie that is basically extinct in these modern times; if you don't understand the the idea, look and feel of 80's noir, then you're likely to be very confused by a lot of the stylistic choices made by the filmmakers. It is a masterpiece, hands down, but you must be in a VERY specific mindset to really dig this movie (like I do)
I love you Jeremy but, you are dead wrong on this. This movie was Kick Ass, easily the coolest movie I has seen in years. The Elevator scene alone, is worth the price. And the Soundtrack, was so damn awesome I bought it. Yes, it does slow down, after the begging but, that is only to set up the plot, after that, it is an intense action movie; I would describe it as a Thinking Man's version of The Transporter.
this movie isnt really that great imo, sure aesthetically its quite stunning visually.but fans of drive seem to qualify its brilliance on its slow pace, cinematography and suspence-building, but drive cant hold a candle to suspenseful, atmospheric, slow paced movies like memento, no country for old men, a clockwork orange, thx 1138 or the deer hunter. girl with the dragon tattoo was a far better movie last year imo.
@fatdoggmacintosh memento wasn't suspenseful at all after the beginning and a few lines after it's waaaaaaaaaaaay too predictable it's great but a bit over-rated
@alittleolder hell yeah! Ronin was such a badass movie. I had it on my netflix que forever and kept bumping it down. Eventually it showed up and holy shit I couldn't believe I hadn't watched it sooner. Ronin was the shit.
Jeremy, were you on reddit today? Who are we kidding, of course you were. Anyway, they crucified Woody Harrelson on the internet today and I thought of this review. Lol.
Just stumbled upon you and while I couldn't disagree more with your review, I gotta say I do like what you've got going on here - Great channel and some nice editing. Cheers!
10/10 absolutely (?) amazing. I know the beginning is pretty "slow" as you called it but I literally never got bored. And once the Standard came home I was hooked till the end... My favorite thing about the movie was that its not a cliche... When something happens you're feel like "Oh man... Now he's going to do ___ and ___ will happen" But once it happens you're like "OH SHIT" in a good way of course.
"Drive" is the most complete movie experience i have had the last 10 years. I often find myself agreeing with Jeremy, but this time i don't understand a word he is saying. It seems people either "get", or don't "get" this movie, with very little room in between. "Drive" is amazing.
@aigg lol in 4 months I bet you'll have a hundred likes, I said what you said once on his other guys review and it got so many likes it got the comment token down....
You made this movie sound hella boring,so i watched it thinking it was going to be poorly paced and slow but for me it was the COMPLETE opposite,i was shocked,i thought it had great pacing,no scene lasted that long and the film moved along nicely.seems you reviewed this film as a action film, which its not a Action film at all,i mean AT ALL...I think thats why you didnt like it.
@iulian4iKkk I don't understand why you say that Drive is a "serious" movie. Just because is an artistic movie doesn't mean that is "serious" for me all the movies are serious, I agree that the move is very very well filmed and acted , but you should not criticize Jeremy opinion of the film.
Everyone has a different opinion, for some people the movie is a masterpiece for others is just a total crap.
This is definitely up there in my all time favorite movies. I see all of these comments saying how "horrible" it was and for those of you who think that you just don't understand. The pacing was perfect. It being so slow most of the time was what made it so perfect. It tricked the audience into thinking that i was a slow movie but then knocks you out of your chair when shit goes down. I do agree that the trailer of the movie was extremely misleading but it was still fantastic.
the first time I watched this, I didn't really know what to expect. it was sorta 'meh'. the second time though..I really appreciated this movie. the soundtrack helps it. I've been listening to Nightcall on repeat for a day now.
@bugster247 I haven't seen Drive yet so I'm not defending that, but that's not true for everyone. Plenty of non-snobby movie reviewers loved this film.
@bugster247 Not really. I can get people's anger at the distributors of Drive for making it out like it's a completely different film than it is, but the film itself is never really pretentious. Just because a film decides to let the emotions of its characters stew in silence for a few scenes doesn't mean it's pretending to be more than it is.
@bugster247 i dont think this film is for snobs at all,i think anyone could enjoy this film for the stylistic suspence drama that it is,the film is entertaining.Seems a majority of people who hate this film are the ones who were expecting a action film.
People who think this movie "sucked" obviously don't know wtf good filmmaking is.
To say that a certain person might find it boring is pretty fair, because not everyone wants a slow paced film. But to say that the movie in any way SUCKS? LOL, gimme a break.
The direction, acting, and editing are all some of the best I've seen in this year.
Wow completely agree with you on this one. The movie had an awesome start, then it became some shitty drama with plain awkward scenes of the guy just smirking creepily.

only need 50 minutes max to watch this movie.
first 5-10 minutes.
and other action scenes.
no need to listen to boring dialogue.
play it 2x-3x normal speed, put subtitle, read the dialogue.
but still, not to watch it at all is better than watching it in 50 minutes.
watching it in its full duration is boring and time consuming.

The trailer was absolute shit and i feel like its one of the reasons Jeremy didn't like it. I watched the trailer after watching the movie and i was like ... what? I can see how that would ruin the movie for people.

It is a masterpiece, hands down, but you must be in a VERY specific mindset to really dig this movie (like I do)
dollarsaurus01 3 weeks ago
I was expecting a movie with lots of car chase scenes, and other than the very beginning I was let down.
The lack of dialogue really bugged me.
I liked the style of the shots in the movie and also the music, just not really a favorite for me.

Russtk18 4 weeks ago
I love you Jeremy but, you are dead wrong on this. This movie was Kick Ass, easily the coolest movie I has seen in years. The Elevator scene alone, is worth the price. And the Soundtrack, was so damn awesome I bought it. Yes, it does slow down, after the begging but, that is only to set up the plot, after that, it is an intense action movie; I would describe it as a Thinking Man's version of The Transporter.

this movie isnt really that great imo, sure aesthetically its quite stunning visually.but fans of drive seem to qualify its brilliance on its slow pace, cinematography and suspence-building, but drive cant hold a candle to suspenseful, atmospheric, slow paced movies like memento, no country for old men, a clockwork orange, thx 1138 or the deer hunter. girl with the dragon tattoo was a far better movie last year imo.
fatdoggmacintosh 4 weeks ago
@fatdoggmacintosh memento wasn't suspenseful at all after the beginning and a few lines after it's waaaaaaaaaaaay too predictable it's great but a bit over-rated

You made this movie sound hella boring,so i watched it thinking it was going to be poorly paced and slow but for me it was the COMPLETE opposite,i was shocked,i thought it had great pacing,no scene lasted that long and the film moved along nicely.seems you reviewed this film as a action film, which its not a Action film at all,i mean AT ALL...I think thats why you didnt like it.
usernameDOGS 1 month ago
@iulian4iKkk I don't understand why you say that Drive is a "serious" movie. Just because is an artistic movie doesn't mean that is "serious" for me all the movies are serious, I agree that the move is very very well filmed and acted , but you should not criticize Jeremy opinion of the film.
Everyone has a different opinion, for some people the movie is a masterpiece for others is just a total crap.
quintero323 1 month ago
This is definitely up there in my all time favorite movies. I see all of these comments saying how "horrible" it was and for those of you who think that you just don't understand. The pacing was perfect. It being so slow most of the time was what made it so perfect. It tricked the audience into thinking that i was a slow movie but then knocks you out of your chair when shit goes down. I do agree that the trailer of the movie was extremely misleading but it was still fantastic.

Pretentious movie for pretentious wannabe movie reviewers who like to turn their noses up at anything that is commercially popular.
bugster247 1 month ago
@bugster247 I haven't seen Drive yet so I'm not defending that, but that's not true for everyone. Plenty of non-snobby movie reviewers loved this film.
CinematicGalaxy 1 month ago
@bugster247 Not really. I can get people's anger at the distributors of Drive for making it out like it's a completely different film than it is, but the film itself is never really pretentious. Just because a film decides to let the emotions of its characters stew in silence for a few scenes doesn't mean it's pretending to be more than it is.
MichaelHowrie 1 month ago
@bugster247 i dont think this film is for snobs at all,i think anyone could enjoy this film for the stylistic suspence drama that it is,the film is entertaining.Seems a majority of people who hate this film are the ones who were expecting a action film.
usernameDOGS 1 month ago 17
People who think this movie "sucked" obviously don't know wtf good filmmaking is.
To say that a certain person might find it boring is pretty fair, because not everyone wants a slow paced film. But to say that the movie in any way SUCKS? LOL, gimme a break.
The direction, acting, and editing are all some of the best I've seen in this year.
