My interpretation of the song is that he loved this girl with all his heart, and she didn't feel the same. She used him, and cheated on him when someone "better" came along. He's attached, depressed, hurt and above all, angry. He love her so much and his selfishness caused him to think that if he couldn't have her, then one could. That is why, as closure or revenge, he ended up killing her, though regretting it.
