@Djones2011ful The Idea that there is a higher power who favors the rich over the poor is disgusting. The true 'gift from God' is the ability to help other people and to be charitable and generous. Hoarding wealth is the complete opposite of that. I am not arguing that being in a state of poverty is something to aspire to, but there is a middle point between poverty and extreme wealth which is more sustainable and less selfish.

@Djones2011ful some of the wealthy people may be helping those in need, but they aren't doing it enough by a long way. There are more than enough resources to feed, clothe and house every person on this planet, but they are not being distributed evenly at all, and it's getting worse not better. The amount of money you actually need to be happy is relitively low (£25k per year, sorry don't know what this would be for your country). The guy in the video has 15 houses for crying out loud!

None of them say the answer is "recolonisation" and they all have great faith in the ability fo the african peoples to help themselves out of poverty. @Djones2011ful The Idea that there is a higher power who favors the rich over the poor is disgusting. The true 'gift from God' is the ability to help other people and to be charitable and generous. Hoarding wealth is the complete opposite of that. I am not arguing that being in a state of poverty is something to aspire to, but there is a middle point between poverty and extreme wealth which is more sustainable and less selfish.

@Djones2011ful some of the wealthy people may be helping those in need, but they aren't doing it enough by a long way. There are more than enough resources to feed, clothe and house every person on this planet, but they are not being distributed evenly at all, and it's getting worse not better. The amount of money you actually need to be happy is relitively low (£25k per year, sorry don't know what this would be for your country). The guy in the video has 15 houses for crying out loud!

@wowzinger you seem to be very confused. You blame the US, the Soviets, the Chinese and the Africans themselves for the continents relative poverty and deprivation. In many ways the historical context within which the suffering arises is irrelevant. All the children and the majority of the adults have nothing to do with the political landscape of africa. So if we in the 'developed' world are able to help them, we should. ESPECIALLY those with more money than they could ever spend.

@wowzinger I admit I have never lived in Africa, but I have lots of friends who work in development there. None of them say the answer is "recolonisation" and they all have great faith in the ability fo the african peoples to help themselves out of poverty. BUT they need help from the developed world in the form of funds and expertise. They don't need to be ruled over. Yes I believe there is a moral obligation for those with more than they need to give to those who are deprived.

Some of you guys who believe that all the poor do is complain and not work our asses off should stop generalizing. Acknowledge the rich and powerful who is and was involved in underdeveloping 3rd world countries for profit(oil,gold,diamonds,sugar,etc.). In many but not all cases this has been done and the wealth has been passed down generation to generation which caused the generations of people of those countries to suffer. Im not refering to those who work their way to the top in a moral way.
