@toddy67 - yes, that was in fact the original movie car. It was due to be scrapped but the scrapyard owner didn't have the heart and the car was "rescued" and toured a bit before being restored to its movie version and subsequently retired at a museum in England.
@kayleedee1 Yeah I belive that it's now at the "Cars of the Stars" museum, where it doesn'rt get driven anywhere. Can anyone think of anyting more cruel and pointless? If I had the car I'd drive it everywhere and hang the fuel cost!
@justythrasher - That would be funny, if it were true. But nope, it wasn't a Chrysler engine, it was the one the car came with, the Ford 351 Cleveland.
THIS is the sound of true Australia. Not some fucking kookaburra in the background and a dumbshit kangaroo hoping about. This is motherfucking shit right here! A true TUFF aussie!
What for is that air intake? Rear brake cooling? Is it wise to have your exhausts ending right in front of it? I know you couldn't or wouldn't help it because that's the original film setup, but I just wondered... By the way, do you know the 1:18 model of this car by AutoArt? IMO, they did a very good job in reproducing all that loving detail. Even the 4-1-4 exhaust and the booby trap are there.
@Oaldce That's a brake cooling duct. The exhaust, by the time it's traveled that far from the engine, has lost the majority of the heat. Yep, AutoArt did a great job of replicating my car, a beautiful job.
The Last of the V8s is the most beautiful car ever made. I cannot pin down what makes me love it so much, but I beleive watching it in action at the beginning of Road Warrior did it for me.
Hats off to you! You've got a real gem there. I wonder how many gallons of fuel fit into these two barrels... "Fill her up... wait a second... where's my checkbook..."
They would contain roughly 40 gallons each, so that'd be 80 additional gallons. And if they were full of fuel, at roughly 6.5 pounds per gallon, that'd be an additional 520 pounds located high and behind the rear axle. Accelerate VERY carefully... :)
I take it you're not using them. But they are functional, aren't they, with all the detail built into this car? Well, accelerating shouldn't be that much of a problem with the tanks full. Cornering would be another matter though...
You're referring to yourself as a "curator" somewhere. Is it your job to preserve movie props? In Mad Max 2, the V8 was rolled down a slope before being blown up. Is this car really the one used in the first two Mad Max films? Was there really only one, btw? Or is this particular car "just" a replica? Love it, anyway...
It's my job to preserve this particular one. I do create movie props and special effects for my company, Outback FX. There was one car used in MM1, two cars used in MM2. The number two car was blown up. Number one is in a museum in England. This car is not just a replica, it was built for promotions and the documentary "Back 2 The Max", with the same level of detail as the first two by Scott Smith and some of the folks who built the first two.
Heh...I hear you. I've done it up dirty for a few appearances, but I found that the dirt was leaving marks in the paint. So, in order to preserve the paint, I try to keep it relatively clean. It's my job as curator to keep this baby beautiful and running.
The engine is running perfectly. The exhaust is combined early in the system, then splits. That pipe is closest to the engine, therefore less exhaust comes out of it, more comes out of the downstream ones where pressure begins to build in the system.
What the hell is it with people saying fake this fake that? I say jealous, that's a fuckin nice car and I don't give a shit if it's a V6 it sounds lovely
It's not my intent to sell, but if somebody approached me with the right amount of cash, I could be persuaded. But I must say, it'd have to be a huge amount of cash. :D
i don't blame you. too bad i've only got a couple grand to my name right now. considering you pretty much said the same thing i would have said if i were in your shoes, i'll bet you take comfort in the fact that you don't have to hear someone offer you 20 million dollars for your car. lol nice car bud.
Don`t worry about gas prices... This is just a hobby. Im from Norway, and we have the highest gasprices in the world. About 10$ a gallon.... But I have a old V8 myselfe and It`s worth every drop of fuel... Very nice exhaust
Cheers! I don't know. In the last video shot before it left Australia, Back 2 The Max, they show the speedo sweeping past 140mph. And that's as high as the speedo can show... :)
I hear you. It's over 4 bucks a gallon here right now. Luckily I have something with a straight 6 that I can charm 30mph out of for daily commuting. But the Interceptor still owns the weekends. :)
Thanks mate. I certainly agree. People always ask me what it cost. For me the important part is what I was willing to give for it. As you say, whatever it took.

How does the exhaust properly scavange with seperate pipes like that?
TrunkFunk 2 years ago
Because they are joined much earlier in the system, then split again nearer the end.

mmm no sound quit like a real v8 its one of those things in this world that just cant be faked

How do your pipes go? 4-2-1-2-4? or 4-1-4?
175myles 2 years ago
4-1-4.
PatrolmanDark 2 years ago
Then the engine is not running correctly. At least one cylinder is not firing (look at the right exhaust pipe).

This is a V6 with a fake exhaust.
TornChaines 2 years ago
That would be incorrect. It's a 351 Cleveland (that's a V8). The exhaust is real, it's not animated or plumbed in from a smoke machine.

dude..we can tell your a noob if you are looking at the exhaust to determine the size of the engine.
