  • wow very helpful!

  • Go to OUDBOOK.COM. Pretty good guide to learning how to play for begininers. Its in English.

  • i'll try to playing oud

  • wtf 1:42.

  • Hi there,

I'm trying to get into oud playing but I don't kow which tuning to use. I came across some vids on youtube about a famous player called read Khoshaba.

Do you the tuning he used?

  • the oud rocks. great vid

  • تحية للأستاذ عمل جاد و أسلوب متميز في الشرح غير أن مقام النهواند ليس تماما مقام الدو مينور الغربي و يجب تصحيح هذا لكي نحافظ على شخصية المقامات العربية و شكرا

  • والله العظيم فنان وشرحك جامد

  • thank you, this really helps!!!!

  • That minor sounding key signature is so cool. I'm american, but I have always loved the minor keys. Very emotional sound.

  • yakhi inshalla i will be as skilled as u when i learn to play. mshalla 3lek. i love the 3oud.

  • Excellent lesson. G'raibh maith agat. Thank you.

  • Lovely!

  • great.. thanks

  • Arabic tuning is from high to low, C G D A F C. Try that

  • Thats what hes using here too I forgot to add.

  • This oud is tuned as follows from high to low:

    F A D G C , high F.

This tuning is very popular in Egypt.

  • quelle lecon !!!....simple et efficace !!...MERCI BEAUCOUP.. : )

  • Very Nice!!

Could You ask the Oud player to make a video of Just empty String. just so I can tune my oud to his. Thank you

  • very nice

  • If you can, please show step by step oud playing and if possible in english please.thanks

  • achsaan :-)

  • Very interesting but I could not help wondering what the right hand was doing! Video is labeled a "lesson"... do you play the oud with one hand or was this just half a lesson? Seriously, I love this instrument. I hope you make more lessons available.

  • 5stars

  • niceeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • What is this tuning?

  • Looks like he tuned it by fourths: EADGC-(F?)

Some people tune by fifths though, and I have seen the bass string reserved primarily for droning: G-ADGCF, which is wack.

  • The book I have has me playing EABEAD

  • i do too, are you using hal leonard oud method?

  • thank you for the lesson,

When will be posted lesson n.2?

  • thank you for this lessons.

  • With all respect, it is not accurate...

When you play Nahawand from high to low you should make B (or Si in french) Bemol... only when you play it from low to high you play it in its natural form.

  • The Catholic Church made up that rule...different part of the world. Good point to bring up, though.

  • Please post more of those videos. Thanks Man

  • thanks a lot good teacher

  • thank you thank you thank you :)

    this was very useful!

  • Oskoot.

  • Very useful!Post more ,thanks

  • thanks!!!

it´s very nice!! do you have another videos???

  • if it has fret lines i think its called a lutee

  • I'm thinking about learning this instrument, but, I have a similar question: How do you tune it? There are no frets, so how does it work? are there dots on the neck like on a guitar?

  • doesn't "oud" mean incense as well? Sorry if I sound Duuu-uuh, but I'd like to know more.

  • I don't know if it actually means that or not, it means basically "wood" but there is definately a GREAT oil and incense called Oud and I also wear that scent!

  • Outstanding video!! will you be posting more lessons?

  • Thank you a very useful video!!! I bought my fist oud last night, Only one problem, I'm left handed!!!

  • merci...

  • i admit this is good but why play a greek instrument. and use the greek notes? lol.

  • geek? hahahah arabic you mean

  • arabic? hahahah! turkish you mean?

  • The words "lute" and "oud" are both derived from Arabic العود (al-ʿūd), meaning a thin piece of wood similar to the shape of a straw

  • turkish? hahaha! greek you mean

  • i have read it firstly came from the persians, its one of the best instruments and we all play it traditionally greeks arabs turks persians armenians so why argue my friend

  • Correct and it is called Barbat in Persian. No one argues about guitar yet we could hear it played in every country, it's about our expression on an instrument, that's where a national or cultural "flavor" comes from. Think of all the different ways to prepare a salad from different cultures. Makes life better. :-)

  • and another thing we all have different oud versions, arabic is big with deep tone tuned lower the turkish oud modified by greek luthier beginning 19 century living in costantinople Manolis Venios its smaller and higher played by greeks and turks both before the "turkish" oud we all played arabic ouds, the persian oud is the smallest and highest tuned

  • that is correct, but be aware. reading one piece of information is only one persons view. read loads and you will have your own correct view.

  • the man who plays say the notes in french: do, Mi bémol, La bémol etc...so he comes from maghreb, he is not turkish

  • He is Egyptian

  • It is said that who shares his knowledge with others receives both gratitude and blessings.

This player is a real artist and deserves both.

    Bill
