@curtiscornett Thank you for takin' time to watch & comment,I had a great time on your channel...I think I watched almost of your vids last night- they are great !!!
Excellent video Allen! Do you think you can make a video on how to choose a good piece of basswood for carving. I know recently I have bought a couple blocks that are junk. They came from New York so I thought it would be softer. It seems to where my knifes out. Help
@extremewhitetail Thank you, that sounds like a great idea for a video in the future. I used to work at a place that sold only carving supplies, tools, wood, etc. They did not know the difference between southern & northern basswood, and they were supposed to be "in the know",lol.
I can relate to this very well,I always tell folks the best I have come across is from "Heinecke Wood Products",their prices are hard to beat, and are great folks to deal with also.
Excellent and clear video. I wish I had taken more notice of how my dad did it when I had the chance. He used a leather strop with jewellers rouge, but I was more interested in other thngs, and never really learned how to sharpen tools properly.
@harryfaber Thanks for the nice compliment and thank's for watching, maybe this vid will help you learn to put a keen edge after going through the actual sharpening process. I learned from my papaw, after many yrs. of watching him...I finally learned by doing, therefore I have concluded...If I can do it...anybody can.
Excellent demonstration! Clear, simple and best of all, affordable. I've been using the same method for yrs. There's so much misinformation online about sharpening, even from seasoned carvers, so it's nice to see a video that get it's right for a change. Also, power stropping horizontally prevents hollow grinding and ensures flat bevels, the best shape for carving knives. BTW, Allen, I've been trying to get in touch with you about knives. What sizes do you offer and how can I order them?
Thanks Gerri , the loose wheel & compound I use comes from Gene Webb carving supply 865-660-1110. The drill mount is made by Dico corp., Lowes use to carry, good luck and happy sharpenin' !
Colhane, your are on your way to "easily maintain" your tools, let me know how it works ! Allen ( Everyone-please visit Colhanes channel...Good Stuff ! )
great tutorial ! Thanks. I'm practicing while it's fresh in my mind.
