Hi! my name is John "Marty" Trautman, co-founder & member of a Manhattan doo-wop group known as "The Chevrons". I was always a big fan of "The Passions". My favorite recording of theirs is "This Is My Love". I wish they would have had a true bass vocalist to complete their sound. We did several gigs with "The Passions" & "The Mystics", two terrific Brooklyn Groups! Doo-Wops FOREVER!
Oh, the good old days with Alan Freed, Cousin Brucie and many many more. You go to the Albee or RKO in Brooklyn and you were in heaven. I'm 66 and love them all.
This really is a wonderful song! Despite their rapidly advancing ages, they still look & sound great! This has to be one of the greatest doo-wop songs of all time, I 'm so glad I found it!
@MultiBudboy That's a shame because this was and still is a great song. You'd be surprised how many musical gems and classics haven't made the Top 50 Billboard Singles Charts. It just goes to show these charts really don't mean much when it comes to music quality.
Eddie, I don't see Frank Mancuso anywhere on this video. If Jimmy Gallagher and Lou Rotondo call themselves the Passions, that's fine with me. They were both members at one time. That's 2 more members than many groups around posing as oldies acts. It's fairly normal to borrow a bass to complete an act, and Jimmy certainly works well with Steve..They were both in the Legends of Doo Wop with Frank Mancuso and Tony Passalaqua.
@Cleftonefan Your right Frank is off stage, it is My old bass Steve Horn Jimmy, and Lou, however Lou was in a much later version of The Passions , and did not sing on their hits though he has a great voice and is a great guy, this is in no way The Original Passions .and since that is how it is billed ,it is bullshit and does a dis service to fans who after awhile will believe anything if it brings back a youthful memory, but a lie is still a lie bro!
They fell into a little gap in the years 1959-61 where their specific style wasn't as popular, then it came back. They were so so SOOOO underrated. But in the Northeast, people loved them little sshort of fanatically, and rightfully so. I'm glad they have become and continue to become ever more appreciated as the years go by. I discovered them years and years ago and it was one of the greatest musical discoveries of my life.
@mikeletz Sorry kids but this is not The Passions and should not have been billed as such doo wop promoters are crooked too, Jimmy was an original Passion , Lou Rotando sang with a later version of The Passions, the other two guys are my old bass Steve Horn, and Frank Mancusco, Frank was lead for The Imaginations, Steve was bass of my group The five Sharks, neither was ever in The Passions they did sing in a group with Jimmy called The Legends of doo wop,
@rakeuiff I agree....I worked with a person after getting out of high school in 61,,,,,,his name was Richie Costa....sang many songs together at work.....Claimed to be a past member of the Passions.....he brought a record over that he sang lead on...as The Passions....'You Dont Love Me Anymore'.....at that time he was singing with others from Corona....Jimmy was in the Navy at the time....Dominic Caputo and Rich Franco...the lead they were using at that time was Tony Gaines.from Astoria..
I have a CD with this group. I wore it out...I love this group. Saw them in concert many years ago in NJ with Jimmy Gallagher. Can't get it any better than that
Jimmy Gallagher along with one of the original Passions performed in Chicopee Ma. for the New England Doo-Wop Society on Nov.2. Unlike many lead singers of his era who have lost much of their voice (Jimmy Beaumont of the Skyliners comes to mind, one can't expect a man approaching 70 to sound as good as 50 years earlier) Jim Gallagher sounds as good if not better than in 1959. He is also a very pleasant gracious man.
Jimmy Gallager was lead singer of the Legends of Doowop for years, now looking at the Legends website, Tony Passa is back, Steve Horn, Frank and Tommy Mara.......so what has happened with Jimmy Gallager, did he leave the group. Anyone out there know.
@doowoplvr Jimmy was not the lead singer of The Legends of Doo wop the group consisted of three lead singers of famous doo wop groups who took turns doing their hits , Jimmy of The Passions, Frank Mancusco of The Imaginations, and Tony Pasalaqua lead of another group plus the base of my old group The Five Sharks Steve Horn, so Jimmy was one of the three lead singers, guys Jimmy's age have grand kids and touring is rough so he dropped out for awhile ,came back and dropped out again.
@rakeuiff Opps, your right...........I get so excited ...I love Tony Passa's "Oh, Rosemarie"........Jimmy's "I Only Want You".......and Frank's "Guardian Angel".......Steve's "Stormy Weather............but now what did Tommy record? Oh, thats right he was just a little boy when all these great groups were recording, I wish that Jimmy would come back to the group, but I heard a different story of why he left...... they keep the music of our time alive and that's whats important.
Lou Rotonda is an original member of the Passions, the other guy is Steve Horn from the Legends of Doowop of which Jimmy was lead singer. Don't know the guy with the guitar is but I think he's with Rotonda's Passions.
I made up a list of 10 most haunting Doo-Wop Songs, and this was one of songs that inspired that flight of fancy! Sound is great, just a wonderful performance. Thanks so much!
lOVE YOUR GROUP ,I sang with Jimmy in 86 when i was with Carlo from the bemonts I ALSO SING WITH A GROUP JOEY DALE AND THE GIGOLOS CHECK OUT OUR U-TUBE, KEEP OUR MUSIC ALIVE
I've seen Jimmy many many times with the Legends of Doowop, I wonder how many times in his lifetime he's sang this song...he's a great guy and singer, many thanks for those memories of a young Bronx girl singing in her bedroom thinking of her Johnny......
