That's actually a misconception. Everyone has an relatively equal chance of getting skin cancer. Melanin stops sunburns, not skin cancer. Skin cancer doesn't come from sunburns exclusively, when the body absorbs any rays from the sun over a long period of time,(if even just to tan) you can get skin cancer. Not only that, skin cancer is usually more deadly in people with darker skin because they believe they are immune to it, but they aren't.

White people DO get it more often,but statistically they die from it less often. When a darker skinned person gets cancer,they don't usually notice till it's too late because they believe they're immune to cancer or they don't notice the cancer because of their skin pigment. Ask any dermatologist and they'll back me up. Skin damage is skin damage, everyone is susceptible to it. My post was more about raising awareness of that fact. You can be ignorant, but please stop spreading it.
