next time you loap sorry if i spelled it wrong i ride english so yeah. next time you canter be care full i was ridding my pony Kisshu and i went over a fence with him even known it was only 3 feet i fell off and hurt myself. so be carefull.

  • If you're riding your horse western pleasure, the correct term is loping, which is a slower and more relaxed gait. Cantering is the english term, and although they are both three beat gaits, cantering is a bit faster and more proper. I myself ride western, currently:P I love horses, and my two babies are BlackJack (technically a pony, but he is only one hand below a horse) and Dodger (who is 16.3 hands--he's huge!!). I love these two boys, they are both geldings. Long Live Country Girls!!

  • thank you SOOO much :) I am loving hearing everyones facts about riding, i am learning ALOT thanks :P

  • Cantering is a bit Faster Than Loping..it is usually called Cantering when referring to English Riding. Loping is slower and it is referred to the Western Riding. Loping is more Relaxed and Comfortable...but they are both fun :)

  • thanks :) ive been wondering that for a while :) i knew that canter was most commonly used to refer to english, and lope for western. but i didn't know if they had a physical difference or not.

  • I don't think lope and canter are different. i think the words are just different, not the gates themselves. just thought ide cover that. :P

  • do you own him or is he your families?

  • she is my families but i call her mine :P im the only one that does anything with her, no one else likes to rides as much. so shes basically mine, but technically my families. lol.

  • so is loping different to cantering? , it looks like the same movement but the legs look different

  • i really don't know :P. i'm the wrong person to ask. lol. i always thought they were, a lot of people i konw think they are the same, and some think they are different. I just like saying lope better :) sorry :)

  • Loping is for Western talking... So loping is a bit slower.

Cantering is for English talking.... So cantering is a bit slower....

Which means western is a slower ride and english is faster.

  • loping is a slower version of cantering, its a three beat gait but its for western

  • I always ride bareback i didn't ride with a saddle for 2 years then when I rode with a saddle I kept falling so I went back to bareback, but that has something to do with a bad fall I had and I ripped the seat on my saddle

  • Bareback is the best! It allows so much more communication with the horse and allows you to feel even their most subtle movements. Love it!

  • thanks :P

  • thanks :P
