  • NOOOOOOO WHY U NO CLEAN HEATSINK

  • did you clean the processor before applying the AS5? Doesn't look like it... You also used too much paste, 1 little drop is more then enough. The actual CPU underneath the IHS is so small that it doesn't matter that the entire IHS isn't covered. Also you risk shorting your motherboard by applying so damn much.

  • @LRoyz You are stupid. If you look at the instructions on the Arctic Silver website, he applied the paste exactly as it shows. But yeah, you shouldn't lift the heatsink.

  • CURRY AND RICE

  • Arctic Silver 5 is a total fuckin scam, don't even bother. Worthless paste.

  • @Mackatax Took 5c off of my temps compared to AC MX-2.....

  • @Mackatax I've had nothing but good results with AC5.

  • He takes the cooler off and puts it back on. I reach for the monitor yelling "NOOO!"

  • LOL king julian from madagascar hahahahaha

  • this guy works at 7 eleven

    Thank you, come again

  • so much hair on the arms.. YETI

  • well if they said so .... !!

  • LMAO is that a classic socket 775 cooler?

  • He sounds like the art dealer from Ghostbusters 2

  • yez, zat iz goood. zis is definitely how to install AS5

  • STOCK COOLER NOOOOOOOOOOO

    intel best chips worst coolers

  • nah, he sounds like the art director in Ghostbusters II. the whimpy one who wanted the baby and who's eyes glowed in the dark when he left the girl's apartment.....lol

  • I think he sounds like the Lemur from Madagascar...

  • I think that guy is the villain from Die Hard.

  • @KoreRekon Wasn't Huey Lewis one of the bad guys?

  • never put the cooler on and lift it back up and then put it down again, this causes air bubbles if you lift it up again by accident clean off the paste and start again!

  • This guy applies thermal compound correctly in thin and smooth line. I re-applied ac5 the same way to the same processor and cpu is running at decent temps with stock cooler at 40-44 idle. He shouldn't have lifted a heatsink because it may produce air bubbles resulting in higher temps.

  • wasn't is suppose to be a "vertical line" ? ... that's a horizontal line .. right ?

  • @Creohan The thing is pretty much square, i dont think it matters if you were to apply it horizontally or vertically

  • @Creohan It's a square... So he could turn the camera and it would be vertical. The point is he put the line vertical from the "arrow" that marks the clasp where the tab opens.

  • @Creohan If he was to pick up the board and turn it 90 degrees it would be a vertical line haha.

  • What I wanna know is how long that repair lasts.

  • u didnt apply it on the cooler too, it would drop 5-10 more c* NOOBCAKE!

  • @tommy714pham Absolutely not! If you apply it to both surfaces you will get bubbles in the compound and this will REDUCE your cooling ability significantly. If you were supposed to apply it to both the cpu and the heatsink then the Arctic Silver site would tell you so. Now who's the noob? Yep, that would be you. Please don't give out useless and incorrect information. His only mistake was that he appeared to lift the heatsink once the compound was applied which also creates bubbles.

  • @Soulrider2012 You are so supposed to tint the CPU heatsink, so you do need to apply it to both prior to doing this final line coat.

  • @olsenrob the tinting is optional, it's just to lessen the break-in period... as it clearly says in the instructions...

  • Is this King Julian?? hahaha

  • Not a bad video. The only mistake I see is that he lifted the heatsink off of the cpu after he set it down and from what I have heard, that may cause uneven spreading and air pockets. As far as the line being in the wrong direction... it depends upon the viewing angle. My Q6600 I spread a horizontal line (according to instructions, arrow on chip etc), but I must turn it 90 degrees to mount it on the motherboard. Then it actually looks vertical but in reality its not.

  • strange voice

  • I have a question, is silicone grease the worst compound you can use?

  • Has this guy rubbed off the pre applied paste on the back of the intel cooler? :L

  • that good but where anti-staic b4 u put it on cpu! ESD!!!! u damger it..

  • I almost dropped my stock core i7 heatsink I managed to catch it before it hit the floor but I smudged a little bit of the thermal compound, would I have to replace the thermal paste and how much would i need to use

  • looks so simple. Why on their instruction they talk about "tinting" and other confusing stuffs??

  • AC5 is the best.

  • @Parabomb311 wow, i just lost 50 off my IQ for reading that. did you type that while giving your daddy a blowy?

scratch that, more like an anal gangbang by a pack of angry KKK members XD, probably doesn't even know what a h50 is.

  • I HATE that stock heatsink, actually I hate the pushpin method. It's horrible.

  • I have just applied AC5 on core i7 920 the way this guy does and temperatures remain almost the same as with stock thermal compund even increased by 2C. I would advice you to apply only if your cpu is running hot. In other cases i would'nt reccomend to replace thermal compound that came with your heatsink because if applied incorrectly you may get a reversed impact that leads to higher cpu temperature. In my case cpu wasnt running hot before i reapplied i was just curious.

  • @gexonas sure you didn't apply too much, if that's the case you will see an increase for sure.

  • @snake172 snake, that parabomb guy doesn't know there's something called freedom, i don't think he has it :O, He maybe really was sucking his dads Tree :D

  • @2007FORLife XD

  • the coolers just retarded to put on, i actually broke my first mobo because the fuking thing just wouldn't go in, turned out one of the holes was bigger then the other 3, cheap plasticky crap imo.

using a corsair h50 hydro cooler now, far better then that piece of crap.

  • worst apply ever.. your cpu surface is not all covered with paste for sure.

  • check to see if what you did is okay, lifting it off the compound and back on,or better yet check your temps over a 2 week period

  • Comment removed

  • Its dosrnt make a hell of a difference what method you use. Line or dot whats important is you put enough but not to much and you cover the whole cpu. Less is more. Peace

  • bro thats wrong it will still work but arctic silver.com instructions are a vertical line for i7 your way is horizontal

  • @asus3571 Yes this is soo wrong...

  • to be honest i think you did a horrible job applying the paste, sorry sir

  • No! You have to spread the thermal paste to get the best results!

  • @SR91Aurora its spreads its self when you put the heatsink on

  • @SR91Aurora Try to educate yourself before posting. What he did was correct. If it was me I would have only used a pea size though.

  • @vearheart42 What I said was correct. You must spread the thermal paste. Even if the heatsink would do it, it wouldn't do it the best way. The difference in terms of temperature won't be big but there will be a little difference.

  • @SR91Aurora Again you need to educate yourself. The entire metal cover does not need to be covered. The Past only needs to be on the part of the heatspreader where the dye lies.

If you use spread method you get air bubbles which actually decrease the contact between the cpu and the heat sink.

  • @vearheart42 I'll post something about that on maxishine forums. Let's see what people reply.

  • @SR91Aurora Okay man just know that what I am saying has been proven and documented in video form here on youtube(See: How Thermal Compound Spreads)

Oh and if you'd like a good forum try Overclock . net or PCPER those are quiet a bit more professional then Maxishines.

  • Here the problem, when you're installing the cooler, doesn't shifting it as necessary over the screws to reposition it smother and mess up the thermal paste?

  • @UTubeLightBulb All it would do is spread it more which is the point, you want it to spread and become a thin coat between the cpu dye(under the heatspreader) and the Heatsink.

  • this is a really good paste i have my Core I7 920 on 4,3 GHZ air cooled

  • helpful video

  • I'm in the middle building my first homebuilt PC. I bought this Arctic – Silver Alumina thermal compound and then this Cooler Master V8 Cooler. The V8 also comes with a thermal tube, which should I use? I'm planning to overclock later down the road.

    Peace.

  • @asiandawn69 the coolermaster thermal paste is better than AC5 in my opinion, use it.

  • @asiandawn69 actually, arcitic silver ac5 is one of the most good therm pastes out there. i sugest you to use arctic. every company succed in one type of awesome products. for arctic i will say the compound is that product as for cooler master --> coolers. they last very long and do thyr job well. there is also the posibility that you try both copounds and see the diference from a program.write on paper room degrees , start up , full load) stres pc with same program so your results will be

  • @asiandawn69 precise. the cooler master paste can be good becauze it's optimized for that Cooler. Also be careful every time you use silver compounds you need to clean very well after a new apply, since they are capacitive sometimes conductive. AC5 is capacitive. avoid drops on circuits , board,... only apply on top surface of microchip.

  • @asiandawn69 in MY opinion the AC silver 5 is the BEST thermal compound that one might get/ use.

as it is 99%silver it is conducting the heat in the best/fastest way possible...

  • a good idea to unplug your cables first dont you think?

  • Do NOT use this method, 2 sides of the CPU will get no compound, and the other 2 sides will have it pouring over the edge.

Put a small 'X' of paste in the middle of the CPU, will spread almost perfectly.

  • @Miskodxx you idiot it doesnt matter if its horizontal or vertical

  • @gotVTECyo Really, go and read at Artic Silver site... Teach something...

  • @gotVTECyo Are you see, on Artic Silver site? Must be vertical for i7, You fucking noob

  • Vertical dude no horisontal, lol it's too wrong.

  • "it seems firm inside" that's what she said!!! Ahha

  • TOTALLY WRONG.... he didn't spread out the compound and he lifted the fan off AFTER he touched it to the CPU... total EPIC FAIL... on top of this, he sounds like it's the first time he's done this... watch some more youtube vids dood, you don't know what you're doing.

  • @ninjapleaz It's actually recommended to not spread the compound yourself, but to let the heat-sink spread the compound. The proper way to do apply this on an i7 is to make a vertical line as he shows, and then seat the heat-sink. It reduces the air-bubbles and allows for optimum contact.

  • BOOO TO STOCK COOLER! Get an H50 PLAYA!

  • yournot suppose to lift off the heatsink after touching it to the processor.... it creates micro airpockets noob. need to do research before spreading false methods on utube

  • is this better then the dot or pea method?

  • anyone else think this guys accent is bad ass?

  • @ItOnlyTakes4 may be not a native american, in any case he get points by trying right?

  • @ItOnlyTakes4 Anyone else hear King Julian off of Madagascar with this guy?

  • @ItOnlyTakes4 YES i was like holy shit, LEGIT awesome!

  • @ItOnlyTakes4 LOL!! "I like to move it, move it!"

  • Comment removed

  • DUDE!! You took the heatsink off after you've already put it down!!

I hope you're enjoying your air bubbles!!

  • remember that lifting the heatsink up and down on the chip will form air bubbles, air is rubbish at conducting heat, AS5 is upto 8000x better at heat dissapation, not sure about this guys effort, but looks allright, didnt like the moving up and down after applying the heatsink, this is bound to cause some air bubbles,

  • Should I use the same method for the i5-750?

  • check arctic site

  • Ya Arctic's site has the same guide for i5/i7, and the i5-750 is quad core too, so I guess it's the same method.

  • It's just that the cores have a different orientation than the core2duo/quad's had. The AC5 should form a line over the cores.

  • @Twelveinchpvpness Yes. You should use this method unless you have an HDT heatsink. In that case you would want to apply the paste on the heatsink itself.

  • @gotVTECyo YOU ARE TOO LATE MY FRIEND! Ya, I ended up using this method when I got my parts in the mail a few months ago. Good results :)

  • WOW, Finally, someone t hat knows how to read. I thought I'd never find a video of the proper way to apply AC5... Good job guy. Yes, it's on their website for the idiots who don't believe. Spreading it with finger is way bad. Fingers have oils on them, which prevent heat from escaping.

  • thats why you wear a glove, duh

  • I don't understand why people are jumping down this guys throat just for using stock cooling. I'm running the 920 at 3.8GHz but I game, this guy might just be an everyday user. At 2.6GHz it is still an excellent performer.

  • 3.8 is high for the intel cooler man. What voltage you running and what temp? Download realtemp and check. Better to be safe than deteriorate the life span of your 920. I run aftermarket cooling just because I run 4.2ghz on my d0.

  • Hi Matt, sorry there was a misunderstanding, Im running the chip with Corsairs H50 WC unit (great for the price, it really is) vCore @ 1.2 (or there abouts) but the i7 at stock is still a damn good performer, though granted in gaming (e.g. FSX) it isnt brilliant.

  • Ah no worries mate, they are a good bang for buck cooler. If you have 3.8 at 1.2vcore thats quite good. Its quite good in gaming, havent come across anything that made it struggle lol.

  • Core i7 and box cooler? :D

  • This is exactly how arcitc silver tells people to put the thermal compound onto a cpu in their website

  • Leave him alone. I have the same type of stock heat sink that he has and it really is a pain to install. You must make sure the pins are inserted into the motherboard and to add insult to injury, it may seem like it is attached correctly, but the way the pins work may deceive you and the heat sink may not be making full contact. I'd upgrade to the Corsair H50, I was at 86c with Prime95 after 15min full load on the stock HS and dropped to a whopping 45c full load after 8hrs with the H50. Get it.

  • Because we are better then you!

  • Those coolers are awkward to put on xD

  • Why waste Artic Silver 5 on that piece of junk that Intel includes with its CPUs? Better buy a decent cooler or go with the standard TC.

  • if you are going to submit a vid tut please make sure you kno exactly how to do what to are videoing... because you put a bit to much compound on and you are not exactly sure what you are doing.. no offence

  • ummmmmm..............he put it on exactly how artic instructs. Which is the best way.

  • @sneeky253 ah no arctic silvers site says for i7 to use a vertical line im just going by what i just read 5min ago

  • way too much compound!

  • Hey guys, if I use the stock Heat-Sink do I have to get rid of the compound that comes on it or do I have to keep that as well as applying more on the CPU? Help would be appreciated here...

    Thanks

  • You can't use both, it's either that or you remove it and use new

  • aprende a falar Porra!

  • Is that Milton from Office Space talking?

  • He put on the right amount, for C2D/Core I7 processors you are suppose to put a line of paste like that.

AS5's official site has instructions for every type of CPU.

  • lol ! - i7 with stock cooler ....

I offer you to buy Cooler Master V8 or V10... Zalman CNPS 10X Extreme hold the temps under 65*C on OC'd Core i-7 920 up to 4ghz.

  • Guys, you should relax :)

You are like this is the End of the World, the difference between applying like this or your methods are minimal. (Temperature)

    No need to overreact :D

    Peace Pete, Nice vid

  • If you go to arctic silver website and read the instructions on how to apply to quad core i7 you will see that this is how they tell you to do it.

Now whether if this is the best way to do it or not is not what this video is for.

  • this is actually a good way to do it. its over the 4 cores of the CPU.

  • no,your wrong

  • what kind of temperatues are you getting with that installation method?

  • I think the stock cooler is no good for Core i7, right now its summer and with room temp of 27-28C I get 58-62C on idle and around 90C with prime 95 running maximum heat, these are the same temps I got with the stock interface

  • I hear you, I idle at about 63C, (average, @ stock, no typo 63C)

What should I do? I need to get a new cooler, can you recommend one or are you still using stock?

  • I still use stock and I am considering what cooler to get, right now I am looking at the arctic cooling freezer pro for i7

  • Go with Zalman, preferably all copper you will see much better results. Zalman CNPS9900

  • Yes, that's the one everyone thinks they get good temps with but in fact to have good temps you need copper fins so i'd say get the Scythe Ninja Copper or just the normal Scythe Ninja.

I was going to get the Arctic cooling freezer extreme but then i went on reviews and found that the scythe ninja mini had better temps on 85W consuming CPU's :)

  • Jesus you idle at 63C? OMFG Thats!!!! no just kidding i idle at 67C no typo either 67C im gonna go and take out my heatsink and wash it and apply thermal paste (clean the old one first with arcticlean)

i suggest you do this aswell

  • @2007FORLife did you ever get around to doing that? any improvement?

  • @ThatBadAssMofo Yeah Idle Temp went right down to around 40C :]

  • @2007FORLife Did you use Arctic Silver 5?

  • @ThatBadAssMofo Nope, Arctic Cooling MX-2 :]

  • @2007FORLife stock cooler or did you get something else?

  • @ThatBadAssMofo My Computer didn't come with a stock cooler :], it came with some Heatsink with a Fan Vent :]

  • @2007FORLife What the fuck? That would be STOCK.

I had a dell come with a diff cooler than that and i still consider it stock.

  • @marcyboy123 Thats not fucking Stock...., Stock is What comes with it You fucking retard, I Put the Fan and Fan Vent on.

  • @2007FORLife "it came with"

As in it was pre installed

    Blame your bad wording then.

  • you dont use credit card or your finger?

i read in one forum about you have to put one X on the micro and dont touch, only put the cooler like you without using the finger or a credit card

    this is true?

    thanks

  • aghh, makes no difference on stock cooler, , plus uve applied a lil bit too much of paste, ,thats jus my opinion ,i apply a small drop and it spreads like f*** ,,

  • hey for the stock cooler for i7 920 did u remove the thermal compound that came with the cooler and replaced it to a new one? And can you overclock with a stock cooler with diff thermal paste... please reply

  • Yes I removed the original thermal compound, I used it since I got the CPU and when I removed the cooler I cleaned it with toilet paper and then further cleaned the cpu and the heatsink with q tip, then I applied the arctic silver, I should have shown the base of the cooler in the video before I installed it..
