@TheGrayBar It's called "Scattered Ashes", and I downloaded it from the Audionetwork web page (YouTube won't let me post the address in my comment, but just Google it).
Quite wonderful--but I see the reading is using the poorly edited Derleth text, for he says "But ho! if only they would make some sound..." -- "ho" should be "oh!" A minor point, I know, but representative of why the Derleth texts needed to be corrected by S. T. Joshi for the current Arkham House editions.
@MrWilum Thanks! I didn't know Derleth had been poking about even in the Fungi From Yuggoth texts. It's strange that he, as a fan of Lovecraft, thought his works needed improvement.
Love the gaunt flying creatures, nice wing flapping action!
Richard - Are you really looking at doing Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath? I looked at it but thought it too ambitious for me - too many sets and crowds of people. But with your methods of compositing, it might be possible... I hope you do!
@StopmoNick Hi, Nick! Yes, I've already planned out the shooting and the effects for Dream-Quest. The nightgaunt puppet was actually built for that project, and the rest of the creatures are designed, and a few sculpted. Some background settings are done. I would've started filming with actors (my friends) last year, but a part of my house was flooded, and I had to deal with that. My version will certainly be stylized and primitive, but also a cohesive whole, which I hope will work.
@boardskins Thanks!! Actually, I'm just finishing up a video of the whole story of "The Shadow Out of Time", made with a friend. And this "Nightgaunts" short is sort of a test run for "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath", which I hope to start work on this year.
@boardskins The Shadow Out of Time will be finished before the end of March (for various reasons), and I hope to get started with filming Dream-Quest later this year. Much of the Dream-Quest project is already planned out and prepared.
@PLHeidemann Thank you! I'm very glad to hear that you think it's well done. I keep working on a project until I'm happy with it, but you never know what other creative prople will think of it.
@chaosfive55 I haven't been on deviantart for a while, since I didn't notice any greater interest in what I was doing. But, sure, I should start posting again or quit my account.
@TheArtdecovampire Thanks! That's very fine praise indeed! My nightgaunts aren't required to do that much. Harryhausen is the master of dynamic pantomime, and I could only hope to live up to his standard.
You captured the essense of the Nightgaunts with exceptional mastery and skill! You do great justice to the works of Lovecraft, I cant wait to see what other recreations you intend to make in the fufutre. Im still awaiting the Yith and the Polyp too! Im always excited to see your work ;)
@reddalek555 Thanks, Chris! Daniel and I hoped to have "The Shadow Out of Time" finished by the end of this year (at least I did, but I'm always a time optimist), but we have a little bit left to do, to get it as good we can produce it. I hope you'll enjoy that one as well when it's finished. And I have more lovecraft projects planned, at least one for 2012.
Amazing work blueworm love the look of it, the stopmotion and effects are very impressive. Love the flying demons, the most scary moment has to be the monster shadow at the window!
This is an excellent piece of editting and animation. The flying demons are superb and remind me of the Cellinites in The first men in the moon and the martians in Quatermass and the pit. Amazing.
@TheArtdecovampire Thank you! As with all of my videos it has its flaws, but I do the best I can without any budget to speak of. I hadn't thought of the likeness between the selenites and the Quatermass Martians, but you're absolutely right. A friend also compared the Nightgaunts to the ALIEN monster.
this was a great retelling of the poem, the animation was absolutely brilliant! and the editing was spot on! looking forward to more of your films!

This is my fourth or fifth watching. Those wing beats are the best I've seen. Even Harryhausen would have to work hard to achieve that!

@mujawooja Thanks, Bernie! I don't think I can make a scary film, but the window scene is at least reminiscent of old-time haunted house movies.
