  • Testing.... is this thing on... ???

  • wow!!! i understood this very well!!! lol

  • It was like being at bingo wearing earplugs man....... Useless, frigging waste of my valuable guitar picking fricking time dude

  • relax buddy , redo it and show the strumming patten, too, all to easy.

  • wow what a little bitch

  • This is the way I've always played it. I've looked at other people playing it, and they are way overcomplicating it. Is this the way Petty played it or a way for players like me to play it? I like your reply up there. Everyone's an expert until they try to do it.

  • there no sound bone head

  • wait what did i just watch

  • very good sound man xD

  • Uhm...... this makes no sense. No sound?! There are more lessons. Even if you could play, like I can, and if you've never heard the song, you can't play it just by showing chords.

  • Huh... no Sound?

  • Okay, im sorry but I would in fact say to u face to face that this video is not very professional done... I mean a sound tutorial, without no sound?, Everybody dont have inbuilt all the chords on the guitar, but Good try man.

  • haha son of (/%&(/%

  • no sound

  • AAAAAAAAAA, i get no sound

  • Can't hear it.

  • Hmm...i can not here this -.-

  • Good job. Ignore the haters and assholes.

  • Heyyyy!!!Thanks a lot for this!!!This s GREAT!!!!Ignore those shitheads whose are up to no good and not helping!!!

    I'm trying it here!!!!

    :D :D

  • john mayers version is ok but not better tom is the man

  • Hell ye! Tom a.k.a Kick Ass Tom!

  • @nanoman1234 john mayer can go choke on a dick. his version sucks

  • @TheDudeMinds100 :are u deaf or somethin mayer just took that song to another level.originals good , but mayer's version is way better.he is god!

  • @TheAugustRush1 agreed!

  • your my hero thank you so much

  • thats ruubish no offense lol

  • very greattt thanks!

  • i can play this! its my first song besides happy birthday but i can only play the intro of this song!

  • You just gave me an A in music, our teacher falls for anything. Thnx;)<3

  • are you stumming all of the string because it doesn't look like you are? what string are you strumming?

  • hes strumming D down thru high E =D

  • it depends on the chord. If you're doing a D major chord, you only have to strum the first 4 strings. If it's an A major, then strum the first 5 strings. you don't know that??? those are basic chords.

  • LOL

  • what your doing it wrong dggda

  • this version sounds REALY GOOOD thank you :):):)

  • you just forgot the chorus... nothing important lol

  • note he says "attempt"

  • jus wrap duct tape around the fret for the capo. thats what i use. haha jk dont do that!

  • i was going to.

  • lmao.

  • what is the clamp thing and why would I need it, and how much is it?

  • its called a capo

  • who invented capo

  • idk

  • i was just kidding.

  • now this is a good video

  • thanks bro! that was so help full and easy!!

  • I was struggling with the last note but you've made it so much easier! Thanks!

  • nice, though instead of the Dsus for the second chord, I play a G. It has the same effect and it sound better in my opinion. Good explanation though!

  • this was incredibly helpful, but how would u play it if u didnt have a kapo??

  • I play it without the capo, it's exactly the same, but instead, you put your first and second finger on the second fret and your third finger on the third fret. :3

  • so its just like a D chord?

  • Mmmhmmm. I posted a vid playing without a capo, you should check it out, you can see my fingers really well.

  • Thanks alot bro! i was watching this vid at work, then on lunch bought myself a Kapo thingy. I am a beginner and this is the first thing ive played that sounds like a song so far ! haha

  • same way i do it man

  • i know what you mean by thinking your fingers are to small on the song "dear prudence" there is a chord d and you have to bring your pinky from the bottom string up to the top string and i cant seem to do it. I can do every chord in the song but this one chord means i cant play the song but i still think it can be done its just so annoying but i think with a bit of practice you WILL do it.Or if your patient just wait a few years it will grow.....magically........cha ching. (im drunk)

  • UHM....the chord you use..the first one..D right? thats ....uhg. i cant fugure the fingerings.

  • yeah its a D, its an easy chord to know and its in a bunch of songs! :)

  • thanks alot man, helped alot. i need to go buy a capo now though lol

  • Thanks so much for this video. This seems like a song that I know that I might actually be able to play. I'm having so much difficulty with my fingering (I'm a beginner :P) like, A LOT of difficulty with my fingering. I see so many people on here with great fingering...is it possible for someone's fingers to be too small for a guitar?

  • Don't worry about it, as you gain experience you'll just out of the blue have no problem fingering the strings. I remember when I started I had the same problem, just keep on working on it.

  • Okay, cool thanks. :)

  • thank you so much! I just had my second guitar lesson ever (I'm 46) and couldn't get this song right and your video was extremely helpful!

  • thanks buddy thats good

  • i play it just like this but with out the capo.... but if any one would like to shed some light cause i taught my self

  • If you want to tell me the lesson sucks..then go ahead....but there is no need for name calling......I love how everybody is so brave on the internet, if we were face to face I'd love to hear you call me a little bitch

  • Thats wat im talkin bout.... Dont sweat it Joltinjess he proly a little B***h. this helped alot.

  • @Joltinjess .....ya, it would probably make it easier

  • @Joltinjess ok ur a little bitch

  • @Joltinjess ehmm..there's no sound, you know?

  • fuck you its the music that counts

  • Why do people always get butt hurt when they see someone using a capo? I use one all the time and people tell me I'm cheating. I just don't understand why people think that.

  • You are obviously no guitarist, and if you are you are probably a power chord basher and yes in that case the use of a capo is not necessary, The capo is used by ALL pro guitarists(like myself) for keeping the TEXTURE(know this word?) and the VOICING of opened first position chords.

  • And by the way Tom Petty is a USER of the capo, first fret on Free falling live at the bowl, The Edge(U2) uses the capo quite a bit,

Jimmy Page used it in combination with alternate tuning,,,,in a word every guitarist uses the capo...but you..you must be a god

  • Here are some famous songs using the capo on one or ore guitar tracks: Here comes the sun(seventh fret)Hotel California(seventh fret)Most Jethro Tull accoustics like Thick as a Brick (Third fret)and so on.Likes i said irs a question of texture, all those songs would not sound the same without the capo on some tracks. On this guitar part in particular he should also be using the Drop D tuning to get the lower sound produced by the Baritone guitar on the original recording.

  • @rymcalli lol whats wrong with you the man just wants to give a guitar lesson!

  • I agree with Phlikone, why teach people the wrong way? When I first started, I learned the "Simple" way of doing everything too. I always regretted that. It's amazing, but if you hold your mouth the right way you can play almost anything in G C and D. (Over simplified versions) but eventually, you want to try to play with others and everything you "learned" goes right out in the round file and you have to learn all over again. Save yourself the agony, learn it right to begin with.

  • They are BOTH equally simple versions. The D is in the right key, it's just a higher octave. That version sounds like crap because it's all high notes. Good skills.

  • I hate that "version". Try capo 1st fret, E, Asus, then Asus,E, B. I think Tom knows how to play his own song.

  • "Tom knows how to play his own song" ... You think? :-|

The title clearly states "Very Simple Version".
