You're the fool if you misunderstood what took place at 5:12 for homosexuality. He was sniffing him....Schenke is a twisted soldier and feels like he can sniff out the fear of other soldiers. That was his way of calling Bauman a coward. That's why before he sniffed him the camera lowered to show that Schenke has an Iron Cross (bravery) and Bauman does not.
