A LOT more people die by guns in the United States than in Brazil and Rio is by far the best destination for tourists. Don't listen to people who don't live here. @Ssshhtt Rio´s not safe. but you can consider going to other places man. i would say floranopolis in the south and Fernando de Noronha in the north east. Fernado de Noronha is kind of untouched place, 100% nature, absosute paradise. Florianopolis is an island capital of the state of Santa Catarina. There are many beatifull beaches, excellent hotels, restaurants, amazing night life and beautifull people. go in the summer dec/jan/feb and im sure u ll have a real good time.

I live in Rio since the day I was born, and it is a very safe place, all you people that are saying it is dangerous have never come here. A LOT more people die by guns in the United States than in Brazil and Rio is by far the best destination for tourists. Don't listen to people who don't live here. There are more than 800 slums in Rio.The rich areas and the poor areas are very close to each other wich makes the city unsafe for turists from other countries. The city is controled by groups of drug traffickers and criminal policemen. The government works hard to hide these sort of information due to the importance of the turism sector for Rio de Janeiro. Reports of shooting between police and drug trafficker are constant all over the town, and it happens everyday. Be careful if you go there.

@Ssshhtt Rio´s not safe. but you can consider going to other places man. i would say floranopolis in the south and Fernando de Noronha in the north east. Fernado de Noronha is kind of untouched place, 100% nature, absosute paradise. Florianopolis is an island capital of the state of Santa Catarina. There are many beatifull beaches, excellent hotels, restaurants, amazing night life and beautifull people. go in the summer dec/jan/feb and im sure u ll have a real good time.

@rafaelxd10 I know, America can also be very dangerous. I live in the Netherlands and luckily these kinds of scenes are extremely rare for us here. Somehow European society seems to be getting along with police more, I don't know why, maybe because the socio-economic differences amongst Europeans aren't that large and we have practically nothing to fight (violently) over.... perhaps this is it idk.
