@dwmtl1000s1974 Powershifting uses the clutch, but the term typically means the gas is always pinned to the floor. The driver nails the clutch in and pushes the shifter to the next gear as fast as they can. The downside is it burns a clutch up much faster and you run the risk of over revving the engine if you don't have a limiter. If you listen just between the shifts you'll hear the engine still revving before the clutch engages.
All my life I have wanted a '63-'64 409 w/ dual quads. You had to work on them, but when you saw one that was done right, they were wonderful. Anyone from the Detroit Dragway and Motor City Dragway era remember a 1964 silver Impala AA/Stock 409/425hp named "Quick Silver"? That baby ran strong.
This 1963 Impala has 13k miles with all original paint, chrome, interior, etc... We removed the original long block and transmission. Another complete long block was built to the current Pure Stock Muscle Car drag race rules. The transmission is Muncie close ratio with a Centerforce II clutch which usually lasts about 200 passes. The best run has been a 12.82 @ 112 at Raceway Park, New Jersey.
Gawd, that's a strong sounding mill.
