Ultimate, with any windmill, you end up having a footprint in a moving volume of air. There is only so much you can do to convert moving air into electric energy given that footprint. With foot print I mean the 2D surface as seen from the direction of the wind.

This means, that there is no such thing as a super duper fancy dancy extra special uber device that does it better than that theoretical maximum. You can't compete with devices that already approach that maximum.

Yes to help this guy out it does work my Grand father used to make these out of wood to spin in the wind on the front porch its not a new idea. That was over 30 plus years ago when i saw one made. Yes the rotation is in the right direction, its like a spiral staircase each step catches the wind to push it in the correct direction. if you reverse the stairs you reverse the spin.

Fairly sure it is rotating the right way. The wind is catching the flat backside of each blade thus making it spin in that direction.
