It's kinda a long story. The singer songwriter Lee Mavers is kind of a perfectionist, and he was never happy with their album. This version was a demo, and it was literally years later that their first album was released after being signed by Go Records. Personally I think it was great, but Mavers hated it and pretty much turned his back on the music business. Only in recent years has he played with a reformed La's band, and there's rumors he has new songs written. Who knows.

We then answered "whatever you want it to be" at the same time. The not knowing makes the song all the more endearing.
