OK, I've probably listened to this at least twice per day since it was uploaded. I finally figured it out - the main melody that comes in at 0:39 is very similar to the bassline of "Don't Stop Believing." Of course, not that it changes it at all; this piece is just amazing as is!
Well, I, as the main developer of Pokémon Ametrine, can assure you this theme fits perfectly with the leader of our villain team. You'll just have to see for yourselves :)
I agree with Seeny in that it sounds more like a legendary battle theme. It's a little to upbeat for an antagonist I think, and the percussion and vocals give it that mystic feel that tends to suit legendaries much better.
So a bit off what you were maybe aiming for, but definitely worth keeping! It's a really pretty theme.
@Pikanyaasan I think it's great. I think the game's soundtrack overall is more, upbeat. What this song says to me is that whatever the leader of Team Nocturn is doing, it isn't any good. But (this is gonna sound super corny) if we believe in out Pokemon, we can take down Team Nocturn. And stuff. This is an awesome theme for an antagonistic leader. imo
I was really enjoying it up to the introduction of the melody (~0:40). After that it just sounds...cheesy, really. Just using a minor key isn't necessarily the best way to convey tension.
The buildup is really good though. Post-1:20 it picks up for a bit, too.
If you ever enter professional musicianship/composition, I'd definitely use parts of this as a basis for at least one work. It's always interesting to rework elements of past creations into newer ones.
@StarmanSuper00 I beg to differ - although it sounds overdramatic, the counterparts and percussion really make it an interesting piece to listen to. I could definitely see this as more of a legendary battle, though, than an evil team. This has some Mystery Dungeon-esque motifs, giving it a primitive yet epic feel that just doesn't suit an evil team.
When themes as epic as this play in-game, I cant help but sit there unresponsive for a bit as I appreciate the effort putting into something so wonderful.
Needless to say, that replay button wasn't innocent anymore the moment I happened upon this video. =P
This song sounds to me like you're battling to save the world, while at the same time remembering all of the memories that you've had over the course of your journey. With a great amount of confidence and determination, the player character faces the team nocturn leader head on, knowing that there's no holding back. It's now or never.
That's the kind of feeling that I get from this. Great composition here, Lala! Keep up the good work!
*bobs head and whistles with tune* Another great job, it gets repetitive hearing the same praise, but what else is there to say? I'm no musical mastermind, I can't tell you what parts I like, but I know there's a lot of parts I like.
I subscribed to iDewitty a while a go because the not-hack fan game looks awesome, I wonder if their leader has a pet Noctowl.
I was in a Skype call when I saw this. Me: "OMG, LET ME CALL YOU RIGHT BACK." My Friend: WTF!!! (in chat). So glad I ended that call, it's been too long for me to not hear music from my buddy, Chris. x3
@Ninja1Ninja2 You do realise both the names Noctowl and Team Nocturn comes from the term "Nocturnal"
Which describes a creature that is generally awake a night, and sleeps during the day, like owls. And I highly doubt they would be making fun of them with a theme this cool.
---
Anyway, good job here lala, you never cease to amaze me with your musical talent.
@Ninja1Ninja2 Do you ever fucking post a positive or neutral comment to anything? PLEASE come back when you do. No one cares about how you think Nocturn can't be a name in Pokemon. :P
@Ninja1Ninja2 Well, no wonder why people are replying to your comments. They are usually ridiculous, and have no relevance to the sole reason for the video. At least and try to keep your comments on topic... even if it happens... to... try you on... loloolololololollol
@Ninja1Ninja2 How am I butthurt? I could really care less about your opinions and such. But, all I see is you posting negative and retarded criticism and comments. As I said, come back when you can post something nice.

Personally to me this sounds like a legendary Pokemon battle probably the one that would be the mascot for a game.

I don't think anyone could take the name 'Nocturn' seriously in the Pokemon world.
Everyone would be calling them 'Team Cactus Owl', because Nocturn sounds like a portamentau of Noctowl and Cacturne.
