so is butter milk is just normal milk can you reply back please thanks as i live in new zealand and we just have normal milk is that just the same cheers
@averagebetty haha, i was only joking. on his red velvet cupcake video, he said whoever ices their cupcakes with the lining on is a savage :-) didn't mean to offend you.
@mylilhannah Haha! Don't worry, I figured you were joking :) But if you take the lining off, aren't you getting your fingers all over the cake? I need to watch his red velvet video ;) LOL
@averagebetty well, my neighbours mum is a cupcake fanatic, and she leaves the lining on... i think it's a pain because i get my fingers all in the icing and dug into the cupcake! but i guess it would be fine it she didn't put so much icing on x_x
Wow those look so good. it's my finals week at college, I think I'll make these to cheer up my roommates, and myself. I need a study break! haha. Thanks for the recipe!
@BewareOfHolyCrackers Haha! I develop and test all of my recipes. I find inspiration from all the places you mention and also eating at restaurants and recreating entrees :)
Hi Sara, just wanted to thank you for the response first. I have some real problems getting red food colouring and well... they aren't exactly red nor velvet without the magic food colouring... I'm gonna try requesting it at a store and maybe I'll vlog if I get to do this eventually (and if I have the guts).
I made this red velvet cupcakes... but an hour later after baking it, it didnt taste velvety. it tasted like brownies! xP thanks though! (i think i put too much coco powder onto it. thats why it tastes like brownies i guess)
@TheMrFERD Sorry to hear it didn't go so well - can't use too much cocoa ;) On the plus side, at least they tasted like brownies and not... liver & onions :)
@TheMrFERD try a recipe that uses cake flour. I tried making one with all purpose and another with cake flour, the one with APF tasted like "brownies" but the one with CF was more spongy. I also reduced the amount of cocoa powder to 1 tbsp because I wanted it to be commercially red.lol
How did i bodge this up, i miss read(tsp)teaspoon & (tbsp)Tablespoon so my mix got a tablespoon of salt, baking soda & baking powder....Grrrrrrrrrr...........Being a guy who doesnt do this often something that might help my brothers is use a capital T in Tablespoon so they dont look so similar........... Yes i know i should have double checked & read it properly but im sure you know what men are like...... Anyway im doing your burritos tomorrow
@TheKlappers Bummer! Sorry to hear the cupcakes didn't go so well -- maybe you can come over and help me reformat my whole website lol :) Good luck with the burritos!! Let me know how it goes...
Will the batter be just as substantial if I use soy milk, egg substitute and all-out brown sugar? My culinary hands are twitching and I've gone vegan :P
@Euroensiklopediya I don't know, but I'd love for you to try! No twitching on Saturday morning :) Just do this "buttermilk substitute" trick to your soy milk:
1. Place a Tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice in a liquid measuring cup.
2. Add enough (soy) milk to bring the liquid up to the one-cup line.
3. Let stand for five minutes and use in the recipe.
Your video is very upbeat it made me giggle alittle. Your cupcakes looks so moist compared to most and that's what I love . Do you maybe suggest using oil instead of butter in most cupcake recipes to get that result?
@KeegoNguyen Thank you for your sweet comment! You know, I don't think you can exchange oil and butter on a one-to-one ratio but the two are interchangeable. It would require experimenting with your recipe...
@averagebetty oh ok thank you for your reply :) well i hope to see more cupcake recipes soon. Would love to see a chocolate or vanilla that is as moist as this. I really need to learn some basics :P But then again my oven's temperature sux. neways thanks again.
They taste delicious... but they didn't look as hot as yours! One of these years I'm going to make a video reply showing how I made what you've made... but I'd prolly die of shame.
@BewareOfHolyCrackers Thanks for checking out the recipe! You can use any type of "flavorless" oil... vegetable, canola, corn, "cooking" oil -- even a light olive oil would be fine; but regular olive oil may impart a taste you won't enjoy...
@BewareOfHolyCrackers Canola, Vegetable, Grapeseed, Sunflower oil etc... any flavorless oil would work but don't use olive oil unless you want the cupcakes take mildly taste like it.
@averagebetty AWWI still love ya Betty. It's just that sometimes I think you might be trying to hold back on the average. I can spot it trying to get out sometimes. LOL!
@TheMrFERD You know, you can't even taste the cocoa powder... it really doesn't taste like chocolate cake. It tastes like... red velvet. So, you could try another flavor, but you wouldn't be making a red velvet :)
oh my goshh i love your converses. and your left eyebrow :) haha

1. Place a Tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice in a liquid measuring cup.

3. Let stand for five minutes and use in the recipe.
