I took lessons from Chapman, once a week for 8 years. He is ghastly underrated by everyone. Fact is, he always was and always will be an incredible guitarist. I sat 2 feet away from him for almost a decade in a 1 on 1 intimate setting. This guy will bury you with the fret board
I could not agree more..loved Paul Chapman..listen to him on Makin Movies - had a chance to meet him with UFO in the No Place To Run Tour - really good guy as well. He played with the UK band Lone Star just prior to joining UFO. I've seen their two LP's on Ebay (Uk imports) -thanks for sharing this
The Tonka-era of 1980-1983 produced some of UFO's best albums. His guitar solo on Doing It All For You (live) was the best of any UFO song, including Mad Mickey's!
I daren't say Paul Chapman is as great as Michael Schenker, but the works he played as guitarist for UFO―No Place To Run, The Wild,The Willing And The Innocent, Mechanix, Making Contact―I like them sooooo much!! The only thing I wish Paul to:Get Slender! To stay alive!!(lol)
"Tonker" was/is a dude of the highest order. My enduring memory of UFO live was at Rock City when he interrupted the set to berate the bouncers for getting characteristically overenthusiastic on some poor bugger who they'd decided had crossed their self imposed "line". Gawd bless 'im.
What kind of hack needs two electric guitars to play this?. Any TRUE UFO fan knows that Schenker would have had an acoustic onstage. This boy sounds like Vinnie Moore trying to play it... Both of them could'nt write shit like this in their lifes, thats why their still playing SCHENKER.....!!!!!!
Recently released Ufo Files are actually up on ufosecretXnet (replace X with . ) . Its just well worth it all, believe me everyone. They really are really crazy! Introduced feb. 12, 2010!
Paul's "ok" but I'll take MS. I know he ( Paul) did everything he could to fit into UFO and in his own way did a good job, but playing a different style and the poor guy had the uneviable job of coming in on Micheals Schenkers footsteps. I would have never took the gig!
@estinky There was one time, Phil Mogg said he was 'avin a drink with none other than Eddie Van Halen and Eddie said he wanted to leave Van Halen and replace Schenker in UFO, because at the time, DLR was driving him insane. EVH would possibly be the only person that could fill the shoes of Michael Schenker!!!!!!
my x husband and i walked into his shop he took the time to talk to us,and to get to know us had us over to his house and we had him over to ours got to know his hole family.he is a great player.keep it rocking paul.
I'd be pretty psyched to see Chapman do any UFO. Don't forget, Chapman WAS A MEMBER OF UFO WITH SCHENKER. Back in 1974 both guitarists were in the band at the same time.
It's a testament to Schenker's great writing. I think the Chapman era in UFO resulted in some great songs, but most weren't written by him. To knock Chapman for being drunk on occasion doesn't hold much water - we all know MS track record. I saw the band with PC and they were great - very professional.
actually i think this was a paul raymond song. it sounds a bit off without those beautiful keyboard parts. it doesnt help that the drums are too loud. actually a bit painful to listen too...its missing the subtlety of the UFO version. the singer's ok, though.
How corny. Paul Chapman doing Schenker era UFO? Sacrilege!!! I'm sure Paul's a fine guy but enough riding Schenker's coattails. Maybe time to come up with some fresh original material Paul? Stop milking UFO. You got to be in that band for 5 minutes. Move on Bro... The one time I saw UFO with Chapman he was so drunk I left the show. He's a hack. IMHO...
Don't you think you're being a little harsh? I mean, I'm as big a Schenker fan as anyone I've ever met, and I think Chapman has also done some excellent stuff. Sure, he had off nights and whatnot due to imbibing, but so did the rest of the band, including some infamous incidents involving Schenker. I also question the need for him doing large amounts of Schenker stuff with his own band, but did you hear that solo at the end of this tune? Not too bad, I think.
i love the Chapman UFO era albums. I find it kinda strange that he does Michael Schenker era UFO song here..and also Shoot Shoot on another recent video from 2008.
People make so much fuss over Schenker and forget that he was a whiny drunken bitch .I've seen most incarnations of UFO over the space of 31 years ....putting Tonka down is pointless ;it's also tragic that UFO have become an oldies band ,digging back to 1979 and before , and acting like they're Vinnie's back up act. Many of the finest songs are from the Chapman era and that's that .Perhaps it was also the biggest drug and alcahol abuse period.... and they don't visit for that reason.
The keyboard player figured the tune out wrong - let's say not the proper way to play it. Tonka is awful, he barely follows tempo...The singer is ok, but not Mogg. It hurts, but truth usually does that.
I think all the UFO albums are great. The Tonka era was awesome as well! People just love to cut down anyone thats better than they are face it.If anyone even starts to think Paul is subpar which is a laugh go practice for 4 to 8 hours a day for 10 years then come back and listen to Profession Of Violence from TWWAI. Most will eat their words for the people that know how great Paul is you have it right congrats!!
Chapman who? Come on: Chapman is standing in the shadow of the master MICHAEL SCHENKER.Chapman had big problems to play the solo's of Michael, Michael did never play any Chapman solo, because the real classic songs all come from the Schenker era 74-79. See the UFO setlist nowadays. (Nearly)all Schenker/Mogg.
Hi liltonka86, my dad and your granddad were best friends years ago in Wales and I met your dad on many occasions. Before I met him I was a big fan of Lone Star and had the pleasure of seeing him in concert with LS & UFO many times.Your dad is an awesome guitarist and a top man and it's good to see him still "Firing on all six". When you next speak to him tell him "Bullneck's" son is sending his best wishes...now in USA. Many thanks and keep up the good work Tonka and liltonka. JB
I don't recall Schenker playing any Tonka era songs Hell UFO doesn't play them anymore.
Schenker haters can't accept that the glory years were 74-79 UFO,s setlist reflects that. And personally I like NPTR and TWWATI ever since then Phil's been brilliant as always but the Music is lacking.
all of UFO music are classics but people do not no better. they have always came up with good guitarists even on the moggway cds bellas and kollman are great, only weak album they have is making contact but still alright
